I assume everyone has already done this but new users are not syncing for me... So I'll assume I have to update to Entra Sync, cloud sync?... Do I setup the new sync and leave the old one active? I see instructions for setting one up but not migrating from MSOnline.

I've been buying probooks (the 440's mostly) 14" laptops.. As they're a business class laptop and always last the 5 years I need out of them. (barring being chucked down stairs, or left on a car roof) They're getting costly, (as I have no trade in stock this year) does anyone else know what the lenovo / dell equivalent to these? I'm looking at the Probook 445's this year (the 14" but Ryzen not intel)

RAID 6 for everything, double redundancy, yes it is the slowest but I want peace of mind and the performance is a second place issue. No need to rush the fix. I hate the RAID 5 re-build or worse wait for a new HDD before the re-build (or new hot spare).. The re-build, the most extensive workout for the array, so the perfect time to find another marginal drive!

I was again looking into creating an XML for the unattend (this is my 3rd attempt since windows8) DSIM is not my friend. Anyhow I've got stuck on the domain join part, it seems I must leave plain text user credentials in the XML file, that is readable by any domain member... Am I missing something?

nope, and somehow during my hyperv migration, I got the time server pointing to a VM and it took 6 months for the time to drift 3 minutes! Luck some staff were grumbling about the time on laptops before logins were affected!

I thought the actual limitation is TPM2.0 which is included with 8th gen intel and 3rd gen AMD. BUT some 6th and 7th gen PCs could have TPM2.0 I think the prodesk PCs had it. I had some HP Protab 64bit quad core Atom! tablets with TPM2.0 and they installed ok.

They bought the name and not the tech. Then put it behind a M$ account then no one used it as a result and mehhhh.ed to death. I had skype handsets that would allow my house phones to ring and skypeout (to skype to international landlines for local rates!) was like a £1 for 60 minutes. Then M$ bought it and slowly killed it.

yes, it is made this way. Class materials for distribution from the teacher and the General folder is a collaboration space. Almost no one uses the folder this way here, they head straight for the class notebook.

The folder called "class materials" is setup as read only for all members accept the teacher / owner. You can also make and change other folder permissions using SharePoint.

The fixings were inadequate BUT it is the way (or why) they're ripped out of the wall! A child can operate the screen (if the buttons are mounted low enough) the motorised stand is heck powerful, and if something obstructs the TV from lowering (like a cart) then the motor will rip out the fixings from the wall and topple. The second I read this, I could see how this would happen. Anything short of anchor bolts would probably fail with 1000's of NM or torque trying to move. The one in the BBC picture looks just like the one in the PDF. Just like mine, different colour but same operating mode. TLDR: TV can't go down, stand will go up, bolts go bye bye.

Dang, I have one AND there is a laptop trolley stuffed under it.... Lucky I've never given it power after installation. This is how I found it... Looking back at the BBC article, you can see a trolley to the side of the TV probably the cause.

you can force a profile in GPO to use local ad credentials if the cloud ones are unavailable. This would then prompt for you to add the cloud one and may ask about the old "profile1" but I assume you've not set this?

final point, I only needed to add read permissions "authenticated users" to the parent folder (the one with the share) "this folder only" it doesn't need to be inherited. This also fixed a long standing issue with Affinity Photo 2 with exports.

Yeah and most people quote a 8th gen intel or 3rd gen ryzen but many 1st tier PC makers included TPM2.0 in earlier PCs. I know that the HP Prodesk G4 (intel 6th and 7th) came with a TPM2.0 so would also work. That's 2017! 8 years ago!!

dang, easy for a new folder but I can't retrospectively add this security permission... I get access denied, I can't take ownwership of 800+ accounts to add it without some disruption! EDIT: I added the permissions to a parent folder and I "think" it is propagating down as inheritance appears to be on. No idea how to check.

ok, this is an issue I ADOPTED! This has been wrong for 20+ years! The way the root share folder was setup for the users didn't have the correct ntfs permissions. I had to add an "authenticated users" with read permissions to the root folder and full control over the share. it's always worked so I've never checked or had reason to make one from scratch.. (until today) lol!

I finally tracked down an issue I've had with office for over a decade. Where upon selecting "documents" to save a restricted message would appear, then pressing "ok" would open "documents" just fine.. Well it must be an oddity with my GPOs or the user share is made or something else... I've found that office whilst the default save location is "documents" the autorecover documents are in "appdata" (in the office settings). Now that I've lifted restrictions on my test pupil, clicking "documents" as a save location in office wants to save the document into appdata!?! I think this is because the pupil does NOT have "grant exclusive permissions" enabled on their user area. ("documents" fails to redirect if I enable that option) Do you have exclusive permissions for pupil areas? How do I configure the share to allow this? (as GPO fails to apply it if set in the redirect GPO) The full save location is the network shortcut folder which maybe important!
