For pupil computers i made it so onedrive gets connected automatically using their login credentials. "Documents" and "Pictures" are automatically mapped to one drive. The problem I have is dealing with "music", "videos" and "downloads" the group policy option "disable known folders" using folder IDs isn't working and trying to redirect the folder using C:\Users\%username%\OneDrive - xxx High School as the root folder produces the error target location is not valid. I can't find any coherent instructions for unpinning them. The worst outcome would be having to redirect them to the user area I was hoping to get rid of. Help!

Hi all, Trying to deploy Windows 11 to some of our legacy equipment (due to be replaced this year) but the workarounds I have found online do not seem to be working. Have added the regkeys below but they dont seem to work: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\MoSetup\AllowUpgradesWithUnsupportedTPMOrCPU HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\LabConfig\BypassTPMCheck HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\LabConfig\BypassSecureBootCheck Have this workaround been removed with 22H2? Anyone found any other way to support on unsupported hardware - particularly using SCCM / WDS? Was wondering about editing the Windows PE image to add in the above?

Hi All, We currently use PDQ Connect to deploy out Windows Updates and from searching around on the internet there is no way to add a package for .net 3.5. We are wanting to use Bulk AD Users as it's an easy interface and has great features for us to use. Does anyone know how to get it working with .NET 4.8 or something similar as 3.5 isn't working? Thanks

Does anyone know how to restore the classic print queue in 22H2. It really doesn't work for us when we might have 100 jobs in the Uniflow queue.

Hi folks, I've flattened and reinstall my PC with 22H2. I don't remember having a Home section before, but I've got both that and seemingly anotehr Quick Access section with horizontal dividing lines. Home has everything pinned to quick access plus OneDrive, then the section below has just quick access. Anyone know how I can get rid of the second section as it's essentially duplicating? I can't spot anything under File Explorer options. Thanks

Okay this one has me stumped. Trying to set default apps for PCs through the .xml in Group Policy and it's just not playing nice. Tried through UNC share, tried copying the thing locally to PCs, just refuses to work. This must be working out there in the world, how are we all managing this now? Thanks any/all answers/sympathy.

Hi all, We're having major issues at the moment with our network printers around the school. When I try to print to the spool, Word will freeze for about 5-10 seconds, and then you can see in the bottom right of Word that each page is being spooled very slowly compared to the normal speed, and we can't diagnose it as we can't see what's making it slow. This is affecting people who need documents that are 20+ pages long printed as the spool is taking much longer than it should do. Is there anything we can do to get around this? Thanks, Sam

https://educationblog.microsoft.com/en-us/2024/04/windows-10-end-of-support-updates-for-education Education pricing looks very un-Microsoft for those devices that can’t be updated (officially) to Windows 11. $1 per device for year one, $2 for year two and $4 for year three.

I've got a strange issue with one PC on the network. It has started booting up, then a few seconds after completing the boot, the keyboard stops working, light on the mouse goes out, display goes off, and we lose the ability to ping it. It works fine right through a re-install (using mecm), and works fine in safe mode, yet on a normal boot this behaviour occurs. There is absolutely nothing in the event log relating to an issue, yet it re-occurs even after a re-install of windows. It is identical hardware to all other machines in the room, and an identical software image. A memtest shows no hardware errors Any ideas?

Have a weird problem with one of my users, their roaming profile never seems to save their settings so it's almost fresh everyday for example when opening Outlook it has to download all his emails and folders again taking ages before he can access emails. This doesn't affect anyone else just him, he has all the correct permissions for his profile etc. We recently re-cloned his machine and deleted his whole profile but still ends up doing the same thing. Anyone have any thoughts on what might be causing this. Thanks in advance.

Yet another fun one from me… Some of our older PCs have the Intel Graphics Control Panel - seems to be only really in older devices as newer ones running intel integrated graphics don’t install this with the driver. To cut a long question short - some of our students are abusing the keybind CTRL+ALT+Up/Down to rotate the screen, and while there is a way to disable it in the menu, it’d be a pain to change this manually on 80-100 PCs. Is anyone aware of a registry key or group policy I can push out to end this once and for all?! 🔪 Thanks everyone.

So cross that RDP is not working form my window 11 machine. This is to try to connect to a cloud servers using remote gateway to then TS to the machine. Any ideas I sure that I disabled UDP connections to rdp?

Hi We use the Settings Page Visibility GPO to only certain settings to staff/students, however since installing the October 2023 update it doesn't appear to be applying properly to any of our sites. We have it to only show these settings: showonly:display;bluetooth;printers;pen;autoplay;taskbar;defaultapps;easeofaccess-mouse;keyboard However since the update the actual result only shows bluetooth, language and accessibility mouse settings. Just wondering if anyone who uses this GPO is experiencing the same thing. Thanks

Hi All, Anyone had any luck customising the new File Explorer? It seems a few tricks that used to work, no longer do - so they can see hidden files, file extensions, map drives etc. It also seems 'rotating' a picture using it corrupts the original image and spits out a corrupted clone (boo) This atm is the only thing stopping me from rolling out to students - should I lock it down a more 'old fashioned' way? I'm even considering bringing back 'right click context menus' if I can.... Having trouble with googling between ‘classic’ explorer and W11 explorer

I’m looking to prevent our student machines from connecting to non school networks. I’ve ticked the “Only use Group Policy profiles for allowed networks” and unticked the “Allow everyone to create all user profiles” options within our WiFi config in Group Policy, however, I’m still able to connect other networks. I can see the option is set in RSOP so not sure why it’s not taking effect. Has anyone else had this?

Morning all TYIA Over the summer we rolled out Windows 11 to our Touchscreens that have an On Board PC in the OPC slot. During testing etc this was not an issue. However for some of our 30+ screens this morning I'm getting reports that on the login screen when they tap the username box the On Screen Keyboard is not popping up as it used to making them unable to sign in. I've changed a reg key to set the automatically show setting but this seems to have not helped. Has anyone else seen this happen?

I've got 40 of these HP Elitebook 840-G5 in circulation. I have maybe 3-4 who persistently have wifi connection issues. They were all completely fine on Windows 10 with the same hardware and wifi environment so I can only assume it's a windows 11 problem. They disconnect from the Unifi wireless at random intervals and then refuse to reconnect - no networks found. Sometimes a device will be fine for days, sometimes will disconnect multiple times in an hour. Nothing done from within windows seems to fix the issue, but a restart always does. All available drivers & Bios updated from device manufacturer website. Swapped wifi card with another device and issue persists, reinstalled W11 and issue persists. Nothing untoward in event logs that I can see? Anyone got a clue?

Hi All, We're going through testing for a Windows 11 rollout this summer and are having a little glitch with the start menu. We login as normal, but for about 7-12 seconds the task bar & start button is completely blank(looks grey). It does then load, and only happens for the very first time a user logs into a computer. Haven't reached the stage of customising the start menu layout yet, so just wondering if anyone else has seen this problem? Thanks!

Hi All, Yes, another "Windows 10 & Print Mappings issue" here... We have been using the GPP method for years (GPO linked to computer / OU with loopback) to connect required printers (and define default). I know it's probably related to the MS Security updates (from last year) but we are experiencing inconsistency of the printers being successfully connected or not. On the whole, it works - but many times when a user goes to print they only have 'Print to PDF' available (aka default Windows printer). And they have to log off/on again which 'usually' resolves the issue. But not always. Perhaps related to if their profile is already cached or not (e.g. logged into computer before) as we do purge via Storage Sense??? But as mentioned, even when it is cached we do have episodes of printers still not connecting. - I know I could revert the MS Update via reg-tweak (Set RestrictDriverInstallationToAdministrators using Group Policy) - but that is not good security practice - I have seen some posts suggesting to include the printer drivers within the WIM etc - but if users have been able to use the printers successfully on a computer wouldn't that mean the computer has the drivers installed already? Or only within user-context? - Use PnPUtil? Any suggestions would be appreciated, as is causing disruption - especially when an IT Suite Class come to the end of their lesson and realise they cannot print (and have to log out/in again etc. - and hope it works!) Thanks,

Hello all. Made up a new 22H2 image, just about to roll out but noticed certain staff accounts don't get the OneDrive link in the explorer sidebar. However some accounts do get it, and mostly noticed these are my test account which have no O365 presence at all (just AD accts.) Fairly sure there's nothing in GP that'd stop it happening, trouble is I'd like to make it happen. Anyone know what I need to be doing? Thanks much for any help.

So my testing of deploying Windows 11 via WDS/MDT is going well and I'm now on to user testing. First thing I notice when logging on as a test student is the ability to write click a folder and choose "Open in Terminal"! How are you all removing this item? Cheers

Hi, Having a weird issue which I’ve faced before but can’t quite remember how I fixed it. When I print using publisher or adobe acrobat, it prints a full black page over the page. Anyone know how to fix this issue?

I and trying and failing to get my 20H2 and 21H2 stations to install the 22H2 enablement package via SCCM. I’ve followed this guide - http:// https://www.prajwaldesai.com/windows-10-22h2-upgrade-sccm-feature-update/ But they are updating. Anyone any idea what I will be doing wrong or where to look for possible reasons as to why not deploying. Cheers

Explorer tabs has been released with the latest update yesterday. KB5019509 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Build 22621.675 (22H2) - Oct. 18 | Windows 11 Forum (elevenforum.com) Only waited 10 years for this Works very well in my limited testing.

I've a number of accounts that are stuck on applying printer policy during logon - sometimes sitting there for 20 minutes or more. These are newly created exam accounts, and there is nothign I can see in event logs Has anyone any suggestions? HELP!!!!!!
