WJEC IT course requires Adobe CC, so it’s either Windows or Mac (the economics of that are interesting!)
-
The economics of this may work for us, as we only need 1-2 years. Really don’t want to go on to LTSC. Year 1 should be less than £200.

Buying projectors in light of EU's law change
3s-gtech replied to localzuk's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
I have stopped specing projector installs - we will run these ones down through their service lives. Many have been replaced with interactive screens. Only real issue will be in the hall, where a laser can replace the current one. -
Was your towbar fitted to the car with a plug-in wiring module for the electrics, or spliced into the loom. The latter is borderline impossible on newer cars anyway, but it's possible that the caravan lights are not compatible with your car too (CANbus compatible?)

SQL SERVER 2019 Cumulative and Security updates
3s-gtech replied to Koldov's topic in Windows Server 2019
As they're CUs, you may not be able to jump all versions. Have a check, you may need to update in stages. I always let SQL Server update via WSUS without issues, but make sure your backups are solid - VM and database. You want to be able to go back to a snapshot if necessary (I did this a couple of times with failed SIMS server in-place upgrades). -
I used to go across two years with WSUS - last time was last summer. I’ve since binned WSUS as it kept breaking. It worked in most cases - so I did 1703->1903->20H2->22H2. I did have to rebuild some suites and some machines refused to take it.

What sort of Fibre-Optic Cable do I need between switches?
3s-gtech replied to Tom_M's topic in Wired Networks
You should be able to get LC-LC OM3 pre-terminated which should go straight into your SFP modules. No need for joins and further patch cables that way. -
Tried 'Do not filter' rather than allow?

See also C15 connector - just cut a wedge out with a Stanley knife. Melting means it’s working.

It's an interesting point on maternity - we ask for the laptops back. We don't expect the staff to work during their leave, so they don't need to have a school issued laptop. This fitted in with union advice.
-
Ummm. No. Not even close. It’s not the norm yet, and some schools haven’t got any intention of going 1-1 in the short term.
-
Indeed, having a laptop in this context makes no real sense, but refusing it is another matter. Just because they have one, doesn't mean it has to go home with them. If the school only issues laptops and not desktops, that's the choice. Conversely, our laptops come in cheaper than a PC + monitor, slightly. Same brand.
-
Refusing to take the laptop home = valid. Refusing to have a laptop at all = please don't allow the door to hit you on the way out.
-
I had a teacher leave their laptop at home. Outside, on a wheelie bin, in the rain. For two days. Professionals…yes?
-
I've had this with NASs in the past - they've had a max number of OUs returned limit on them and they'd arbitrarily not list the ones you want. Is this configurable, or changed in a firmware update?
-
There's obviously consumer cloud-based stuff, but from a commercial perspective I think the cumulative bandwidth requirements and security/DP aspects make this pretty muddy. It may be possible, but even if we were serverless (and we're not, we have ALL the servers) I'd still have an onsite box for this.
-
It hasn’t changed. There’s no difference when it comes to the third party add-ons we use - they still run on our old SIMS server which just hosts a copy of SIMS that connects via VPN to the host. Pretty similar mechanism as before with regard to Wonde etc.
-
Best practice? Probably not as generally accepted, but we treat the All Users profile with some caution. Since changing it to this, I’ve had fewer issues, but note that the Start Menu redirected link has to match it otherwise it won’t appear at all. That’s caught me a few times.

Here's our barebones student layout. The Office links work with 2019 and 2021, may work with 365 but not tested.
-
Indeed, and you can change that structure post-install. You should not sync all directories.
-
I’ll try to remember to give you the bits from ours. I spent a lot of time on it and it’s pretty resilient to updates etc (11 next year won’t be fun though!)

I will add a bit more detail, which I have mentioned in the past. We had staff laptops bought and paid for by our LA. Some schools kicked up a fuss, we embraced it - it meant a major change in workflow but it also meant we got modern machines over our ancient desktops. We put Lenovo hybrid docking stations in every classroom, so any staff could connect with one lead. We bought a few extras for cover teachers to check out/back in. We also maintained our older remote access solution for staff not issued with laptops/as a backup.

I think you'll need to move it to an OU that's not synced with your M365.
