How to obtain direct connection to Internet?
3s-gtech replied to SteveB_NI's topic in How do you do....it?
Using a wpad.dat setup, with the proxy settings in a file on an IIS server that is available to unauthenticated clients should work. As long as they have ‘automatically detect settings’ in Internet Options, they should find the file via DHCP. Set the proxy settings in the file to a passthrough port or policy on your filtering. -
Just a warning - I had M365 transcribe a voice message left for one user. The audio was entirely innocent, the transcript would make Deadpool blush!

Caught Deadpool 2 on C4. Laughed. A lot. I see mention of the Equalizer films. I love Denzel Washington’s work, and those films are great. Can you listen to this song without picturing that sequence?

Don't stress yourself about it, or you'll need a lie down. -

I also wonder if the head has one eye on July, is approaching an age of afternoon naps, driving ‘sensibly’, and posting often in the Dad Jokes thread, and thought ‘why not?’ [emoji6] Edit: nope he looks about forty! -
Wonder if that means my Phenom II x4, 970 mobo with 8GB of DDR3 and a 6950 is now actually worth something again? [emoji1] Still doing the job, as long as I don’t try to play anything newer than 2015...

Thankfully, we don’t have trusts, CEOs and anyone beyond the governing body to keep things like that in check. Sometimes, it needs to be said. The tone is acerbic enough to pass over the heads of many. -
Can you attached the VHDX to another VM then start it up? The old VM will be pointing at the checkpoint which is broken. You may lose data but maybe not judging by the date of the snapshot.

Not sure if it's still the case, but it did get to a point where pre-built systems cost less than the sum of the components at retail due to bulk discounts etc. It meant that you could get a machine built, with warranty, for a decent saving over the kit.

Ryzen. With the core counts, fantastic performance per clock and the platform of Ryzen 5*** (or Zen 3) it's a great platform. You can't go far wrong with either, but I like the fact that Intel are getting a kicking after so many years of resting on minor increments and cynical segmentation.

Without it being licensed and set up, users simply can’t change their passwords in M365 - they’ll get a message and you may get a notification as admin.

Our experience with our two lots of Konicas was very good. Firmware updates did trickle through (the SMB v1 flaw hit part way through our lease) for scanning to folders. Engineer call outs, toner and general reliability all good. Better than our current ones (a different brand)!

Note that you may not be licensed to run some software through RDS -that was always the case for Adobe CS and may be the same with CC. 2D Design's licensing is pretty friendly but it may state that it's only to be used within the school site/PCs.

Little ones seem to love the Cars films. The Star Wars prequels, despite or possibly because of their foibles, are usually well received!

Do you know what part of it is failing to install? Staff will be able to run the Teams installer, and Teams only installs to AppData which won't need UAC authorisation to write to. Is it an Applocker rule that's stopping it? MS recommend a Publisher whitelist - I've just whitelisted the Teams exes and the installer executable too. Staff still can't install it as FSRM doesn't allow them to save .exe! That's easy to fix.

Update for the removal of Adobe Flash Player: October 27, 2020

Yes, they can. They’re also (relatively) safe from what I can fathom, because they’re running particular content only - I’d guess that could be exploited going forward though. -

Just a thought, but possibly manual file removal or permissions/Applocker will work. I’ll have the same issue. -
Wiping the SoftwareDistribution folder is a fairly reliable solution without downsides that I've seen. It just clears the update history and cache, and can make uninstalling updates tricky (but not always). I had it scripted when I upgraded Windows 10 across site from 1703 to 1903 with WSUS - any clients that struggled, that kicked them into life.

Is the AMD Ryzen 5 3500U any good for a pupil laptop?
3s-gtech replied to TwistedHelixis's topic in Hardware
Definitely. The AMD CPU has twice the core and thread count. -
I had to remove their first names from AD and wait for it to sync! Couldn't make it change in GC alone. Not sure what you'll do as using Wonde, as it syncs from your MIS.
