  1. Haha CS6 takes an absolute age in our task sequence - probably as long as the OS and other apps combined [emoji28]
  2. Another 16GB of RAM stuck in at purchase would make an amazing test rig, for the size and weight. Not many years ago, I had VM host servers with lower specs than that!
  3. I’d have thought that cores and threads, and RAM would be the main things. The Ryzen 7 4750u and above have 8 cores and 16 threads. I’ve used the 4650u with 6/12, very quick CPUs. HP and Lenovo have systems with these in. Not cheap though!
  4. With the last of the deliveries through, we did get a decent number of laptops (plus docks for teacher desks). There was zero inference of Hwb use needing to increase within our LEA. Its use has increased, but not for core services here.
  5. I just don’t see how that makes it feasible as a replacement. We’re starting to ramp up our Azure licensing on our tenant - I don’t think Hwb even gives me any Azure controls.
  6. Does it have the HP Smart Storage Manager software installed? That will let you see any RAID config. If it's not installed, you should be able to put it on.
  7. Depends on the age of Aver visualiser, whether it works with other software or as a generic webcam. Most of ours don't. Yes, there's a selection box for the Flash plug-in. You may have to try it without that update.
  8. Which Windows version? We had an issue with 1903 a couple of years back which stopped our Aver visualisers from working. It was a dodgy Windows update at fault. I installed and tested A+ on a 20H2 build (no March update) last week and it was working. I didn't install the Flash component.
  9. Yes. I’ll find out on 1st April!
  10. Hence my caveat. I will add that the cost of renewal didn't seem to go up this year, between OVS-ES renewals.
  11. Pugh are excellent, and seem to understand the licensing better than most. We've been with them for several years, but we've recently shifted to EES from OVS-ES.
  12. We've done this recently (I keep piping up on other threads about it!) We went for local AD joined with Always On VPN. This is by no means a cutting-edge solution now, but it allowed me to move things forward without having to completely rethink our infrastructure. Any progress on that has been on hold for 12 months. Using AOVPN means access to SIMS, shares, home drives and intranet resources. It's limited by users' home broadband (upload especially, that causes some headaches!) and getting ports etc through local and home firewalls. It's ideal for us, as staff are constantly moving about, sometimes working from home, and using Teams constantly. They're being pushed towards OneDrive in many cases, but they have choices at present. Email is still on-site, but that'll be moving too. I feel that AOVPN will allow us to transition to being more cloud connected, rather than a hard cut which I haven't got the support time to implement. EDIT: AOVPN set up as a device tunnel with a Powershell deployed profile. Part of the key to all this was modern, USB-C docks and laptops that are all compatible with them. We've got Lenovo kit for this and it works well. You'll need to convert HDMI to VGA on any older projector installs. We supplied cases, which are labelled for that staff member. Everything is tagged with their initials, as they all look the same! My LetraTag has never worked so hard.
  13. DAD is the worst for me. Cynical, joyless, silly and now horribly dated. The CGI on that ‘para surfing’ bit! Best? Casino Royale 2006 for me. Followed by much of Connery’s output, Goldeneye and TND, Dalton’s films, then Moore’s. Never watched OHMSS!
  14. We simply don't install it on shared devices - it's functional enough in Edge for students to use. The disk space used would fill our smaller SSDs. We do install it on staff laptops though. Part of the reason for doing it via AppData is so that users have permission to update it. Of course, SRP and Applocker may have other ideas...
  15. Yes - I'm not hugely happy with that, but M365 is also accessed with SSO so it's all under that account. I'd like to see MFA reach the Windows domain login screen, without being Azure only, somehow!
  16. You may be able to do the above with GPP using the file option too. That way, you can manage it without needing to change permissions.
  17. Doesn't even need to be hot, it's only a gentle singe! Of course, you don't want to be breathing the fumes. The tip can be cleaned with a mild abrasive.
  18. I've now taken them out of classrooms, and teachers have their own which are labelled and branded with a soldering iron.
  19. You’ll find that s standard TV will be badly affected by condensation outside, even enclosed. They also need to be exceptionally bright. I think you’ll need a proper outdoor screen or a LED matrix unit.
  20. Ah, I see you've modified it to a M5 round head You may have to use small mole grips, or a dremel to cut a slot across the screw head so that you can use a large flat head screwdriver.
  21. Ours like Musescore as the students can easily go home and carry on with compositions. The lack of sound library is obviously an issue - however even that is obscenely large and I've had to start deleting it from our Macs as the HDDs ran out of space. Sibelius licensing is utter agro too. It's a no-brainer really.
  22. Your scanner may create the PDF using its own OCR capability - I know our copiers can do this so it's transparent in action.
  23. You should be able to grab the installer from the App Store, then put the image onto a USB stick and install from that. Interesting that it doesn't work on Big Sur, though not surprising. I have a new Mac here to replace our old server - I won't bother!
  24. PM if you want. Some outline: Lenovo E14 gen1 (Core i3) running Windows 10 20H2 and Office 2019 Lenovo Hybrid USB-C docks (with HDMI to VGA adaptors where wallplates didn't have HDMI) Single USB-C for docking and charging Teaching staff assigned their own charger, case and projector remote Always On VPN setup for these devices Reception so far has been very positive, with some criticism of VPN speed (we're hammering the WAN link to be fair to it!). The machines themselves are beautifully made, very quick and light. As we moved from Core 2 Duo desktops the contrast in speed helped the project feedback! I can't feed back on port or cable durability for USB-C yet. I expect them to fail - I'll replace the cables (genuine only, at like £30 a pop!) but the staff will get a surprise if they wreck the port on their laptops! We've hung on to 4:3 monitors for years as it suited things like Smartboards etc - that's something that isn't always considered when your projectors don't support a 16:9 signal or the display surface is the wrong shape. I'd been buying 16:9 projectors only for several years so compatibility has been excellent. Less so with the surface they project onto! We also have a new wifi install (802.11ax) and the laptops support this too, to reduce the complaints we've had in the past over speeds when away from desks. Of course, network cabling to the docks themselves in is still the best bet!
  25. We have recently implemented this for all teachers and classrooms. If you need any insight on how we've done it, just ask.
