Apologies if in wrong section but it seemed appropriate to ask here. We need to produce reports for Governors and these need to be available from SharePoint. At present we collate the information in a variety of .pdf files - some will be A3, some A4 and even the odd A5 one. These are independently numbered and have individual headers/footers. We need to produce a pdf that contains ALL of these pages, sequentally numbered and with a consistent header and footer. I understand from the person tasked with this that it is a long and laborious task involving several iterations through a process that involves Acrobat reader, Word, a PDF printer and screenshots. Is there a way (ideally free but not critical that it is - just don't want to spend £000's) to join a number of differently sized PDF documents, strip out the headers and footers and replace them with a sinlge one that runs throughout the final document and then do the same with the page numbers? We need the PDF files to retain their original size and orientation. I've only just been asked about this and haven't done much searching yet so if I find something I'll post it here for the benefit of anybody else that gets asked!

Hi, at the moment the kids at our school gets many paper reports each year, the school would like to save them as PDF. this is fine. but they want the parent to be able to login to the SLG and get their childs report PDf files. is there anyway this can be done using capita webparts? or does anybody have any suggestions on how to go about doing this sort this??? any automation at all would be really helpful as i think manual setup would take forever and be a nightmare to maintain. thanks, ITHelp

Hi everyone, Just wondering if anyone else has this problem but as you all must know, adobe reader has gone to version 11.0.03. We run XP machines in our secondary school and are having PCs have a pop up window indicating there is a new update from 10.1.4 to 11.0.03. We have has people installing the new version but then when they go to open a PDF file, the program stays blank and will not open correctly. We then uninstall 11.0.03 and install 10.1.4 but then we realise the unistallation of 11 messes up Internet Explorer, throwing up a error message and then closing. We are having to then reset the internet settings for all the machines affected which can be time consuming as the settings are linked with individual users. Does anyone know how we can go to 11 which the problem of opening PDF files? Thanks in advance, Leigh

Here's an interesting one. It doesn't seem to happen all the time, the length and content of the PDF doesn't seem to be a common factor for instance. Anyhow, here's the error log for one of the troublesome PDF files.pdferrorlog.zip

Hey anyone know a free safe converter, PDF to word cheers

I am currently administering a website which requires an optional PDF document to be downloaded. I have been using Dreamweaver and not yet had any success. There needs to be a link (preferably with an icon of an Adobe PDF document) on the homepage of the site which when clicked will allow people to open or save the document. I'm sure that this is fairly simple, but I have not had much experience with Dreamweaver in the past... If anyone can tell me how to do this I would be most grateful. Henning.

I have a need to shrink a small number of PDFs. I don't believe we have Adobe Pro, so I'm wondering if anyone has used any safe Open Source PDF optimizers that they'd recommend.

1000Mbit of internet here Classcharts and Parentmail (and a number of other sites) will offer print previews, or reports as a downloadable PDF. The issue I'm having is that when you go to download one using MS Edge it'll open a new tab, pause for 15-20 seconds then close the tab and the download is available. Using Firefox (on my test PC only) the download will open the download dialog instantly. (these are tiny PDFs around 100kb) not sure where to start, this seems to be an edge problem but I did disable the antivirus during testing to no change. I allowed popups but this didn't help, turned off enhanced security for the website, no change. Ideas? (other than use Chrome) EDIT Edge will download immediately if I use the save link option.. ((Not always available.))

Hi, I've been asked to put a page flipping thing for our prospectus PDF on the website. Yes I know, I think it's a horrid idea too, but senior management want it so I've got to try. Other schools in the area use issuu, and I had a look, but our Business Manager was put off by this in their T&Cs: Published Content. By uploading Published Content to the Issuu Service, you hereby grant to Issuu a worldwide, non-exclusive, transferable, assignable, fully paid-up, royalty-free, license to host, transfer, display, perform, reproduce, distribute, and otherwise use your Published Content, in any media forms or formats, and through any media channels, now known or hereafter devised, including without limitation, RSS feeds, embeddable functionality, and syndication arrangements in order to distribute, promote or advertise your Published Content through the Issuu Service. This license includes the right for Issuu to convert your Published Content to Issuu’s proprietary format, or such other file formats as may be used by Issuu, and to display and make your Published Content available, in whole or in part (including excerpts), on the Issuu Service in association with other Published Content, content or advertising. Subject to the license grant to other Users below, the license granted by you to Issuu in this paragraph terminates as to a specific Published Content once you remove or delete such Published Content from the Issuu Service. Does anyone know of a flippy thing I can use that doesn't want to own our content. Management are happy to pay a small amount for a software license. We use Joomla 2.5 for the website, so it could be a component, but I had a look on the extension directory and they all seemed to be jpg flippers with a complex install procedure. Thanks,

Is it possible to see which users on a network have accessed a word document/PDF file on a shared drive? Or is there some VB code that would provide similar? Many thanks

I have a school website which is having problems with pdf files in Google Chrome. When I have a link to a pdf file - Chrome just doesn't open the file. You have to right click and save-as. Other websites open files in chrome fine. Has anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it? It all works in IE.

Link: Free Online OCR service - convert PDF documents to Word, JPG to Word OnlineOCR is a free site where you can convert images, PDF docs and more into editable text or Word files. Maximum file size for the guest user: 1 Mb. I have experimented with several PDFs [not particularly challenging ones] and it coped quite well. I was quite impressed and when I can find some I will try PDFs which include special characters to see how it handles them. Bank online e-statements. a few users can get to the point where the spare window pops up where the pdf should be displayed and they are met with a blank white screen. User assured me that this is the only PDF/IE related function that is not working. I checked their IE security settings and they were spot on. I reinstalled adobe with no happy results. I logged into user's PC and and was able to see them no problem. This screamed "profile". I went ahead and killed the local profile and renamed her roaming one. no difference. I reinstalled IE7. no difference. This behavior does not follow her to other machines. (Yet eliminating her profile changed nothing.) this all works fine in Firefox If the issue was due to a WSUS update I would imagine that it would effect waaaaay more people. Any ideas?

Morning everyone, This summer we purchased Adobe CS6 Master Collection and it has been installed on all computers. It has become apparent that the Adobe PDF printer becomes the default printer for all users once logged in, even though Group Policy is set to make the network printer default. Has anyone else come across this and come up with a solution? Any help would be great. Thanks Scott
