Hi everyone, Just wondering if anyone else has this problem but as you all must know, adobe reader has gone to version 11.0.03. We run XP machines in our secondary school and are having PCs have a pop up window indicating there is a new update from 10.1.4 to 11.0.03. We have has people installing the new version but then when they go to open a PDF file, the program stays blank and will not open correctly. We then uninstall 11.0.03 and install 10.1.4 but then we realise the unistallation of 11 messes up Internet Explorer, throwing up a error message and then closing. We are having to then reset the internet settings for all the machines affected which can be time consuming as the settings are linked with individual users. Does anyone know how we can go to 11 which the problem of opening PDF files? Thanks in advance, Leigh

Hi, We have a problem (so far on only one teachers laptop) where Adobe Acrobat Reader will not open. Is displays the following error: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem. This happens logged on as a teacher or an administrator. I've tried a repair, that didn't work, I've also uninstalled it and re-installed it which also didn't work. Any one else come across this? Regards, Adam.

Hello, all.. A post here from a few years back: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/educational-software/130141-naturalreader-only-runs-admin.html mentioned NaturalReader only running as Admin. I ran into a similar issue with v13 today (the school here tried 14, and it ran terribly, so were advised to try 13 by CALL as they also said 14 wasn't much cop). The MSI has a couple of properties set which copy the settings to the APPDATA folder for the user installing it, and to set the registry in HKLM\Software\NaturalReaderFree to use that path. Result being - only admin level users can run it, because they're the only ones who can access this folder. I've put together an MST file (using ORCA), which redirects these 2 values to instead use the ALLUSERS appdata folder. There's probably some easy way to get it to use the install folder, but I'm not an MSI editing guru So far, it seems to work. It's still very much in the experimental stage. If anyone would like a copy, then get in touch. I don't get PM notifications, for some reason, so email me at gerardsweeneyATyah00DOTc0DOTuk (replace zero with O, and obviously AT and DOT with the correct values - my feeble attempts at anti-spam) Cheers, Gerard

Just a little heads up on this. I was stopped the other day by a DHT who told me a parent has downloaded an iPad app that allowed her and her child to do one of the tests at home. I haven't had much to do with accelerated reader as it's all web based so phoned them to see how we could stop this. I was told that the terms and conditions of using AR state that pupils should not do tests at home, unfortunately we can't stop people doing things that they shouldn't be doing so needed a way to stop it. I probably worded it wrong to their help guys but they told me the only way to stop people doing tests at home was to restrict access via IP address. I asked about teachers then accessing it at home, again could only be done by IP address. He expected all teachers that wanted access to have a static IP address so that it could be added to the allowed list. (I was also told that teachers don't take work home so there shouldn't be any need for them to access it at home?) Anyway, after actually looking at AR I found in the Security Options section you can restrict the student only area by IP address. I've added in the local authority IP address and now it can only be used within schools. Teachers can still access their section within the site using their own details. What it does mean is that each school how uses AR will need to add in the IP address facing out to the interent. Simple enough to do, steps are below. 1) Log in to ‘Teacher/Administrator' section 2) Click ‘Renaissance Place’ 3) Click ‘Product Administration’ 4) Click ‘Set Security Options for Students’ 5) Click in the box on the right hand side and type in the appropriate IP Address 6) Select the ‘Do not show’ option 7) Click the Done button Parents can still access the HomeConnect site to check on their childs progress.
