Hi, We have recently set up the Parent Portal for iSAMS and have issued all our parents with login details. We are now looking at setting up a CMS system for parents to use to upload photos of students at sporting events. We want the CMS site to be locked down to parents and staff only. Does anyone know of any way to use the authentication process from iSAMS with a third party CMS, like Joomla. Cheers, Barry.

I am keen to build an intranet site for our secondary school, we have no money to spend on expert help so I have to go it alone. I envisage the site being a sharing site for staff and students, news, canteen menu, gallery for photos and videos etc, and a secure area for staff only, containing forms, room bookings and so on. I have toyed with a Joomla site with some success but my stumbling block is the secure area that requires an LDAP lookup, I have spent hours configuring SHMANIC jmapmyldap, only to find it too flaky for words. As soon as I thought I had it configured correctly one minor change threw it off track, now I've lost faith in it. I am wondering if someone can point me in the right direction, I am not entirely sold on Joomla, I'm quite happy to learn a new system if necessary. Many thanks

I'm currently hosting my test site locally, so forgive me for not being able to provide a better example than my screenshot and the Edugeek Joomla demo site. Using the Axe Rescheek theme, does anybody know of a CSS fix so that sub menus within the main menu at the top? To use the Edugeek Joomla demo site as an example, let's say that I want to create a sub menu when I hover over the History option on the Curriculum menu to show 3 more options - say, Facilities, Homework and Timetable. I know how to set this up through the backend, but when I try it out (and in all browsers), these 3 options would appear elsewhere - in this case, probably floating just over the News menu option. There's a better example in my screenshot. I want to be able to hover over Sales in the SPA menu and have the Instrument Sales option appear just to the right, instead of over the Contact Us menu. I presume other people have had this problem? How have people got around this? Any ideas for a CSS fix? Thanks in advance.

Hi - love the new joomla - one problem, when I press the browse button on the Media Manager (specifically stories/slideshow) it doesn't do anything (IE nor Firefox). I have to upload pics via FTP - so has to be done at home. Any fixes?

At the moment I'm setting up a mates Joomla and they want to be able to have different pages with Smoothgallerys. Can you have multiple smoothgallerys on different pages displaying different images? I've googled around and there is little information about smoothgallery parameters within Joomla unfortunately. If anyone could shed some light that would be awesome. Cheers.

Well - my migration of a site from 1.0 to 1.5 didn't 100% work I'm having problems with users/ user manager. I went to login front end of site (as user teacher) and all the front page modules vanished just leaving the content. No logout button visible. When I went into user manager, it said that user teacher had never been used. Tried creating a new user but after I click on the new button- nothing happens If I try to logon with no user name (just accidently clicked it by mistake) I get the same effect as if I'd tried using teacher. logon as admin -same again. Admin logon works fine in backend. (thank goodness) Now all of this happened after creating a new 1.5 site in a subfolder with a different sql prefix- migrating the content from the old 1.0 site - and then moving the new site down to root and altering a few params in configuration.php to get it back working again. I don't know at what point it went up the swanee as I didn't test front end logon at intermediate stages. I've just tried using mtwmigrator to just import users from old site but that didn't make any difference. Any ideas anyone? Can i just re-install some user manager module? regards Simon

Hi, I've been asked to put a page flipping thing for our prospectus PDF on the website. Yes I know, I think it's a horrid idea too, but senior management want it so I've got to try. Other schools in the area use issuu, and I had a look, but our Business Manager was put off by this in their T&Cs: Published Content. By uploading Published Content to the Issuu Service, you hereby grant to Issuu a worldwide, non-exclusive, transferable, assignable, fully paid-up, royalty-free, license to host, transfer, display, perform, reproduce, distribute, and otherwise use your Published Content, in any media forms or formats, and through any media channels, now known or hereafter devised, including without limitation, RSS feeds, embeddable functionality, and syndication arrangements in order to distribute, promote or advertise your Published Content through the Issuu Service. This license includes the right for Issuu to convert your Published Content to Issuu’s proprietary format, or such other file formats as may be used by Issuu, and to display and make your Published Content available, in whole or in part (including excerpts), on the Issuu Service in association with other Published Content, content or advertising. Subject to the license grant to other Users below, the license granted by you to Issuu in this paragraph terminates as to a specific Published Content once you remove or delete such Published Content from the Issuu Service. Does anyone know of a flippy thing I can use that doesn't want to own our content. Management are happy to pay a small amount for a software license. We use Joomla 2.5 for the website, so it could be a component, but I had a look on the extension directory and they all seemed to be jpg flippers with a complex install procedure. Thanks,

Hi all, I was wondering if you could all help me. For the past few years as part of my role within the schools ICT team i have been responsible for designing, developing and managing the schools website. I am totally self taught and have developed a pretty good knowledge of html, css, php and jQuery etc but with the development of CMS such as WordPress I want to use one for the schools site. There appears to be numerous CMS's out there and was wondering if anyone has any preference and can point me in the right direction with plugns and templates etc. Kind Regards Scott

Now I've encountered this before, but frankly it's never been a problem until now. We launched one of my schools websites, and everything looked spanky and everyone was loving it, until the ICT Curric Leader dropped me a helpdesk ticket pointing out that the website didn't look right on the in school MacBooks. She's absolutely right - all the in school MacBook whites, for some reason, seem to be refusing to admit the CSS. Now, my MacBook pro is set up in exactly the same way (no OSX domain here), and I can see the site perfectly (see screenshot below) http://www.shepherd.coventry.sch.uk/images/MajikShot.png However, on any of the school MacBooks, it looks as below. What the heck am I missing here? I've got Firefox and Safari on the MacBooks and it has the same problem on both browsers. I've no doubt I'm missing something obvious, but I'm now at the end of my tether http://www.shepherd.coventry.sch.uk/images/Mac1.png http://www.shepherd.coventry.sch.uk/images/Mac2.png http://www.shepherd.coventry.sch.uk/images/Mac3.png http://www.shepherd.coventry.sch.uk/images/Mac4.png Majik

Hi just wondering if anyone has a link of the the old theme from the 1.0 package for version 1.5 available?

I have IIS 7.5 installed on server 2008r2. I recently changed some authentication settings and it popped up an obscure message which I cannot remember. the issue is now my basic authentication is not working. It just keep prompting over and over again. I have tried removing all rules and recreating them and still the same. I have checked the default domain is correct and the realm is blank. the specific users I have tested it with are all in the correct active directory security group but still it keeps prompting. The website (a joomla 3 site) works if I remove the authentication rule. I should point out the password and username is definitely correct and I also tried with domain\username just in case

Hello, I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience repairing a joomla install? I recently did an upgrade to 3.7.0 and it completely killed my website. Luckly enough i was able to recover using the Akeeba backing plugin. The only problem i have now is that if i click articles and then go to images and links i cannot press the select button next to intro image and full article image... it just does nothing. Unfortunately looking into the code is a bit over my head so i was looking to do a 3.6.5 repair/reinstall. Does anyone know if just copying the 3.6.5 folder to my webserver overwriting the files currently in use would fix it? Thankyou

Hi all, does anyone know of a good way of organising articles/categories, other than boring plain lists in Joomla 1.7. Ive seen extensions/plugins but didnt realy want to go down that route if it wasnt nessasary. The only other thing I thought of was making an article that links to these and emending it for different sections of the site/s, but that wouldnt be ideal either. Thanks in advance

Hi all, I'm hitting a brick wall with this problem. I'm moving all our externally hosted websites from one external server to another. However with the main school site using the edugeek template the content does not display. The content is there in the admin area but just does not display on the new site. I wouldn't mind but the site is being replaced in a month but I unfortunately I need to move the site now. Has this happened to anyone else? Any suggestions why? I'd be really grateful. Old site - Ashton Park School New site - Ashton Park School Thanks

Since SYSMAN_MK has updated the EduGeek Joomla Package and created a new style with it I thought i should follow suit with the EduGeek Moodle Theme. So here goes....... Attached is a screenshot of progress so far, Im looking to find a few testers just to give it the once over to ensure everything is ship shape before releasing it to everyone. If anyone is intrested in testing the new EduMoodle Theme please let me know.... (Just like the previous version the theme will also be released on Moodle.org)

There will be a Joomla Day in the UK in Maidstone, Kent on 13th and 14th March 2009. Joomla is one of the top three open source content management systems today with an estimated 7 million websites currently powered by it. Everyone with an interest in Joomla is welcome to join us for two days of fun and learning about Joomla and the Joomla project. There will be plenty for everyone from beginners putting together their first Joomla site all the way to advanced professional developers. Three of the Joomla Development Coordinators: Wilco Jansen, Louis Landry and Anthony Ferrara will be there to give you the low-down on what's coming in Joomla 1.6 and its new access control system (ACL). I'll probably be running sessions on Joomla templates and "how to make menus look cool", but if there is some burning topic you would like to see discussed then let me know and I'll see if I can make it happen. Joomla Days are held worldwide on a regular basis, but shockingly this will be only the second to be held in the UK (the last was in 2006!) despite our having the second highest density of Joomla users in the world. They are organised by Joomla community members to support the Joomla community. So come along and meet other people using Joomla for fun or profit. There will be plenty of opportunity to network and pick up some great ideas and contacts. Numbers are strictly limited, so make sure you register early to avoid disappointment. Here's the link: Welcome to the Official Joomla! Day UK 2009 Web Site I look forward to meeting you there. Regards, Chris. PS: The programme is not yet finalised and we're still looking for speakers for some slots, so if you have lots of Joomla experience and you'd like to address an audience of Joomla enthusiasts, please get in touch.

I see that joomla isnt working correctly! But at least the forums are fine if you access it manually! Im just getting a clean white page when i try to access anything like news/chat/media etc... Jack

Hi All Has anyone got the iSAMS Calendar showing in either a Wordpress or Joomla site? Thanks!
