    PC Fire!

Molex to SATA converters are notorious and I would recommend removing them from any PCs in any schools.

    PC Fire!

This is a bit of a known weakness with SATA power connectors. I'd start pulling all of the CD-ROM power connectors (i do this when they arrive, as students only mess with them).
  3. In a Group policy Object applied to the PC: Computer Configuration/Policies/Administrative Templates/Windows Components/Windows Update/Do not connect to any Windows Update Internet locations Set to Enabled.
  4. What happens when you deny the PCs the ability to check for updates online via GP?
  5. Are they showing in your regular DHCP pool now with leases?
  6. Our student Chromebooks have the wifi set in the Admin console - but they don't go offsite so don't need to change those settings. I think you have the network managed by the console, but it's not setting the static address itself.
  7. 20H2 has a decent support life - 21H2 will be a few months yet, especially on the more broad general release. Worth it if you can wait though.
  8. I haven't seen that as a Chrome OS setting - even Google suggest setting this as a range alone! Can you post a screenshot?
  9. I'm not sure the button does anything special - because you can invoke it with Powershell and it does a standard check. That will be against WSUS and WUO unless you block the checking of WUO with Group Policy.
  10. Have you set them to always get the same IP from a reserved range in DHCP itself?
  11. I haven’t tried this, but if they’re inserted into Powerpoint can the pen tools be used over the video?
  12. Yes, we moved in April. Went with Pugh again, they were great and really helped me understand it. The framework fee isn’t a lot. I’ve had fun changing all my M365 licensing scripts!
  13. You can use the Adobe Application Manager Enterprise to create the installer package, then run as part of your task sequence or as a software install, as a standard application msiexec /i CS6.msi /quiet from the application directory on your MDT server. It takes an age to run! You'll also need to run the serialisation program to license it, either as part of the same task or as a separate application.
  14. Your fibre has SC ends on it, and the switch should take an SFP (called mini GBIC in the past). EDIT: your patch lead has SC ends, your patch panel has ST. ST was more often used with OM1 and pre-OM1 but I've seen it used with OM3.
  15. Once you have the SFP installed, you then need a patch lead that will connect the fibre to that SFP. This will depend on what ends have been put on the fibre, but the SFP will usually be LC and the patch panel often SC (but can differ). You'll also need to make sure it has the same optical spec (e.g. OM5) - usually 50/125 with newer runs.
  16. Our usual electricians did a huge amount of upskilling when they got a big networking and infrastructure contract some years back. They now do everything with AMP connectors now, have very good testers, and can even do the fibre too.
  17. Looks like you have CAT5e joined to CAT6 there - classy.
  18. Don’t forget DP Alt Mode! https://www.displayport.org/displayport-over-usb-c/
  19. Those issues tend to fit with memory errors, though the server tools/diagnostics should have shown that.
  20. On a DC, it can kind of blend between both stores so a definition can be in either. As they’re only the definitions, of course it carries on working whether they’re defined or not. It may be that a setting or update has changed that, or have you changed DCs about?
  21. The 'local' PolicyDefinitions store is for local group policy, i.e. configuring them on the machine itself. While this works on a DC, to a point, it doesn't work properly if you have multiple DCs with a DFS-R sysvol for instance. You need to copy any policies to the \\yourdoman.com\SYSVOL\ yourdoman.com\Policies\PolicyDefinitions and that should be your baseline location for any ADMXs (and ADMLs).
  22. Here's a variant of mine. I have two server ranges (1.0 and 2.0 below), so two static routes. This works for me, but I have two NICs and this configuration is not necessarily good practice - you need to tailor that to your needs and requirements. Also note that I install this directly within the Powershell, not as a separate XML file (shouldn't make a difference though). my.vpn.server.com IKEv2 Certificate SHA256128 AES128 AES128 SHA256 Group14 PFS2048 SplitTunnel true 172.19.1.0 24 172.19.2.0 24 172.19.1.0/24, 172.19.2.0/24 true true true internal.domain.com
  23. We went from Cisco 1Gb to desktop with 1Gb uplinks (with an HP 5406zl v2 core) to Aruba 5Gb to desktop (mostly at 1Gb) with 10Gb uplinks (and 50Gb stacking). Not noticed any difference. The Cisco and HP kit was reliable and there was no saturation of any links. It wasn't as resilient due to single PSUs in edge switches, but the core was a beast (and lives on as our CCTV core, with the old PoE switches on the edges). This kit should give us good future proofing though.
  24. You want the Uninstall option - Remove will orphan it off (it's for machines that have been retired/reimaged/have been dropped by their owner).
  25. SOLUS3 to remove the SOLUS client, then a GPP or startup script to remove the folder itself (or both can be scripted).
