  1. I think you have to re-push the config out - at least officially. I have a feeling that there's something buried, either in the registry or the installer. Try searching for your update location in the registry.
  2. Did it recently on a Hyper-V VM - I’ll need to do it on ESXi shortly too. Not had any issues - the last time I saw a problem was when going from a single core Athlon 64 to dual core Athlon X2 on Windows XP (so quite a while back!)
  3. You'd be better off getting the remaster on PS4.
  4. You *should* find that the new WJEC ICT course allows the use of Premier Rush, which doesn’t have such towering system requirements. The filetypes should be compatible.
  5. I want to re-play them all (probably via the collection on PS4) but I'll be skipping 1. It has some fantastic scenes, but I didn't find it fun to play after a certain point...
  6. It's not backwards compatible as it's such a different architecture. PS3s will play PS1 games, early 60GB PS3s will play PS2 games as well. Otherwise you have to use the store - which still works on PS3 and they have committed to keeping it running for a while yet.
  7. What sort of games do you want to play? Brown cover shooters like CoD will obviously feel dated, but there are plenty of sure fire classics on PS3 - Uncharted (3>2>1), LoU, God of War, Ratchet and Clank, inFamous, GT5 and 6, as well as masses of non exclusive stuff. Later consoles were more reliable than early ones - Super Slim and Slim models far more so than the original breeze block. No PS2 backwards compatibility with those, though many of the best games were re-released on PS3 (Okami, Shadow of the Colossus).
  8. A bit. I have a ridiculous amount to do, not enough time to do it, and I know that my drive to finish it all will run out of puff by the end of the first week. Knowing that, I did start my ‘summer’ jobs back before half term. More looking forward to some time off and maybe even some nice weather!
  9. Do you need it in your TS? It’s blank in any of mine - they use the KMS key and activate when they are joined to AD.
  10. Oh no, you're using Pro? Why on Earth they split that SKU I don't know - I guess it's to do with the licensing model for regular Edu.
  11. How brave are you feeling? You can sometimes just nuke the recovery partition clear out of the way (yup, done that myself). Snapshot first!
  12. Hmmm. I've found odd behaviour with using system paths. Can you add a duplicate entry with the absolute path too? You may also be able to change the ACLs for the exe and Deny Read and Execute for your student group.
  13. Yeah nothing wrong with a well set up RDS solution. My suggestion was more in caution to the usual quick and easy bang it on a simple gateway or even open the port. We still run web based RDP, but our VPN has made it almost redundant.
  14. £10k could create a very decent AoVPN setup for that many users, including hardware. I'd not want to be exposing any RDS at this time.
  15. Yeah, same findings. Very similar cost, but we gained A3 (not that I've started utilising it much yet).
  16. [email protected] There are a few account managers, and they have MS licensing specialists so will be able to direct your email.
  17. We never use a generic logon - it makes the process of tracking who was where, safeguarding, email in an emergency, MIS cover etc much harder. Of course that means we have to set each supply teacher up - which takes about ten minutes.
  18. I’ll try to find the source. You’ll need: A VM host server (you’ll need 1-2GB of RAM per VM minimum) As many CPU cores as possible (which is a lot easier now than it used to be) SSDs, with enough storage for each OS for each student. This should be a separate array to the host OS. VirtualBox Server https://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch07.html Optional: An onsite MySQL DB (but not much power behind it needed) A way to combine the scripts needed into a UI for the students (we used VS). You can do everything without the automation parts, but it’s more work for you. You may find that it’s easier and cheaper to do this with Azure now - especially if you don’t have the server already. Strongly recommend you check that route first.
  19. I should add, given that my post is broad, that given enough time and a bit of tinkering, the server version can be automated as it has good scripting support. We created a little program in VS which the students ran. This allowed them to choose the type of VM (Windows or Debian). It then stored their username in a MySQL DB against the VM ID. The server built their new VM from a base image. When finished, they had the option to start their VM, and the program fired up an RDP session to that VM, connected the network drive to their home area, and away they went. It was very clever stuff, for which I can’t take any credit!
  20. The last time this was all coming in, many of us implemented VMs (typically via VirtualBox) which gave the students complete control, but on isolated boxes. These didn’t have internet access, but could have mapped drives allowing the user to get exe files onto the machine where necessary, and save the work back out. We went a step further and hosted the VMs on a dedicated server which the students RDP’d to (which a VBox extension). Needs to be a bit of a beast! It all went a bit quiet since, but is now coming back (especially in Wales). Difference is, much more can be done within a browser now.
  21. We managed to wean off AR at v7, been on Foxit Enterprise since. Generally the Windows viewer is good enough, but for staff a decent reader is a good bet.
  22. There is a basic reader built into 10 and Edge. Do they need Acrobat Reader?
  23. I’ve done it on some old Canons, as well as our Konica machines - the options are a little buried but are usually there in the admin menus. The drives can usually be zeroed rather than just reformatted.
  24. There's another member who's just had a core switch fail - maybe this could stand in for him? 8 SFPs better than none! http://www.edugeek.net/forums/hardware/222777-core-switch-failure.html
  25. E5406zl? Far too good to just throw away! Are the modules all 1000Mbps?
