  1. "Schools Marketing Company" - where to start with that one. I can imagine that their emails are solicited and welcome in inboxes across the land. What a professional response.
  2. I originally set up Teams a couple of years ago, exactly for this purpose. It worked really well. Little did I know how much hassle I was saving myself just a few months later!
  3. I eagerly await our move to hosted SIMS.
  4. We used to use a master image in FOG, I ditched that workflow for MDT with Windows 10. Clients now build from an update able WIM instead, and I can inject drivers, add software etc as I go. It has been the best change I've made in the last couple of years (and I've made a lot). No sysprep, woohoo! Do you need to do it this way?
  5. My usual lag is 12 months after release before I even put it on a test machine, and two years before it’s rolled out. Much of that is apathy nowadays - I’m not excited to get into testing(!), but I’m mainly after stability on an older supported build. Not that my work machine will run 11 [emoji28]
  6. It works okay on our Chromebooks. Not sure how I can use GP with it though, as we use Edge rather than Chrome and I don't think there is a GP setting for it (though could be a reg hack?) and I think it requires the user to be signed in Yeah, BYOD doesn't go through our Smoothwall so not worried about that. Edit: weird. I've put in a Decrypt and inspect policy for the various Google services as a test, and disabled the don not inspect, and it still gets through...it's as if the content mod doesn't work.
  7. I have a difficult little conundrum here, and I'm not sure if it's possible to unpick it. I want to be able to restrict sign-in to Google accounts to our own domain only (which actually signs in via Azure, but that shouldn't matter). For Smoothwall, that means apply a content modification - X-GoogApps-Allowed-Domains:domain.tld and applying to everyone, everywhere, everything. Easy enough. To get our Chromebooks to work properly, I've whitelisted Connect for Chromebooks (do not inspect). However, when I temporarily disabled this policy the content mod still didn't work... I'm guessing some filtering duality is stopping the content mod from working, as users can still sign in with personal Google accounts. Anyone got any bright ideas? accounts.google.com shows in these policies: Connect for Chromebooks Custom blocked content (obviously overriden) Student Blocked URLs (overriden too)
  8. Ah, you've got the same switches as us then, via the same funding I guess. Are you on the latest firmware? The out-of-box firmware that they all came with will brick the switch in six months or so, as it writes to the internal storage until it dies. Ours are on much later firmware than that, and work well. They were shipped in a 'beta' state!
  9. I’ve heard mutterings that some of the newer 10G kit has been released in a rather ‘unfinished’ state, with serious firmware shortcomings. Nothing that can’t be fixed, and the warranties sort it, but when spending the cost of a decent house it shouldn’t really be the case. We have Aruba 10G throughout. It’s fast. It runs hot. Filling a wall mount cabinet with them is likely to alter the structure of the building. I like them.
  10. I bought an AOC 32” 1440p screen a few months back. Honestly, it’s way too large for productivity stuff, and website navigation is much harder (like, turning your head to find the back button [emoji28]) but I bought it for gaming and at that it wins. Should have kept space for two screens, but an iMac has to fit on there too somehow.
  11. We're getting lots of them, often mentioning the school's legal liabilities of immunising our students then linking to a load of anti-vax websites. They are all being caught by the spam filter.
  12. Same with ours. It looks like DPO's have started to pick holes in Wonde's DPAs and understanding who the processor and controller of the data are.

Wow! We ditched our 7600s about 9 years back - clunky, slow old beasts even with 4GB but we never put SSDs in them. Not tried 10 on anything pre Core 2.

Does it really? I’ve never looked at the requirements. I have it running on some right antiques here, no complaints as long as there’s an SSD and 4GB of RAM. In fact, I did put it on a Dell Inspiron 6400 which was a first gen Core 2 (915 chipset) machine from 2006. Still going strong (off domain).
  15. Same here. They’re delicious on toast. They’re one of the best aftermarket cables I’ve used - last longer than the originals.
  16. Don’t open it up. There’s nothing to gain by doing so, and the liability increases on you. Hand it back and say “sorry”. Please don’t get involved.
  17. I make it pretty clear on personal IT (as this drive would be, if it's hers personally!) - I either do it for free because I like them/it's quick and easy/I'm in a good mood - or they pay my commercial rate (which is eye watering to put them off).
  18. Charging hundreds isn't the issue - it's the thousands where it gets a bit eye watering. This is specialist work, it will definitely not be sorted for £50. We've used OnTrack https://www.ontrack.com/en-gb who I was very happy with indeed - but the costs are commensurate with the service.
  19. Yes, this is how I update it. It works pretty well - I copy the source files from the Teams install on my PC (no GPs applied) into a folder which GPP then copies to client local home areas in their AppData on logon.
  20. I *think* you can update Teams app using a GPP update, copying new Teams files into a central deployment share then pushing them out from there with an Update command. No registry complications. Only requires one up-to-date copy on site to push out as a folder copy.
  21. You need a device to run it from - we use mini PCs but it’s supported on lots of platforms. Then it’s just a case of using an HDMI input instead.
  22. Xibo doesn’t use 8080 - it uses 80/443 and 9505 in later versions. It’s free and popular - we’ve used it for 10+ years.
  23. We're also looking at them, so appreciate the feedback. I'd imagine generic heavy duty brackets from Amazon would be fine.

Would that include the lovely HP Probook 450s (G3?) we had off you Dave? Skylake CPU. Would be a huge plus if so!
  25. I’m not an expert, and it’s a few years since I last looked at it. The source of the file depends on your profile type, but for local it comes from your hidden ‘Default’ user profile. This is modified by sysprep, or by loading the hive into regedit and playing with it. I can’t remember if GPO settings write to it. Possibly - you can make the registry changes from a GPO direct to the profile in many cases - but the GPO will override the profile settings as I believe the profile is loaded first.
