Seems like that situation hasn't improved in the 13 years since we last set up - that is to say, SMB is fine to store projects, but they need to be worked on locally. You may have better results if you can get 10Gb to desktop and have the storage fairly dedicated. You may also find that the typical KS4 use of a DAW doesn't push it too much - but for KS5 it didn't work for us.

This - entirely this.

At least they didn't have Bring Your Daughter To Work Day. That didn't go well.

Do not *do not* setup up forwarding of emails from one organisation to another. The DP breach could be spectacular. As it is, having a non-employee access school services is seriously shaky and needs very specific written instruction from the head (and ideally your DPO). It's fine. Depending on contract, you can probably leave them to still have access until the end of December or even the Christmas holiday. Plenty of time for them to sort it.

No that's at weekends. Oh wait no I see

We have to wear these weird fabrics strips around our necks, as staff. Only the men though. Some French thing.

My parents looooove Reacher. Must borrow a Prime subscription for a week. Not much else to justify it!

…in England. Not making excuses, but we’re not covered by that over the border! Again, not making excuses for unpatched software, but Techsoft haven’t just released an old clunker that we’ve kept on with - there is active development. All depends how dee you want to go with compliance. It’s a rabbit hole, but your active exploits are most likely to come from that an unpatched Exchange server, a creaking print server or a user clicking on boobies!

Stuck blocking students from emailing distribution lists

No, avoid the complexity and stay away. It does limit some of your (easy) control though, so you'll need the v3 module and Powershell to do it! -

Is this any help? https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/exchange/manage-hybrid-exchange-recipients-with-management-tools You'd need to have Exchange still active in your AD, but you don't need a running server. -

This is how we do it. This syncs up to EOL. Also stops spam etc reaching the groups. -
Well, I’d be almost certain it supports Windows 11 as is - it is properly written software and you’d be surprised how good compatibility is if a program was written well, going back to XP. From a cyber security aspect - it will only need updates if it has flaws that make the system vulnerable. We have got so used to continuously updated software as a service - but if it ain’t broke, does it need fixing? -not a Techsoft employee!

I'd replace the drive nowadays, but I'm saying that as I have hundreds of defunct SATA DVD drives in PCs that have never been used. They are still such a cheap thing to buy - £20 will net you something more than decent.

I think v3 is on a very similar codebase - certainly worth wrapping it up to see.

Do you block Youtube for Students?
3s-gtech replied to Driftingashore's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
That really is the extreme end of what happens when literally doing your job. I’d be expecting a full apology from the DSL (fat chance) for creating that situation, and the student dealt with in line with the policies of the school (assault on staff in some schools isn’t instant expulsion, I know). -
How big is your school? HTPPS decryption can be intensive, and you may have simply given it one hell of a workload to suddenly do. These firewalls are for SMBs, and a school of 1000 users may be too much for this unit. I think.

I would wear an outfit like the Chippendales, but I just couldn’t pull it off.

Power outages during exam season - what have you got in place?

I set up our laptops to use a local profile with an AD account - once logged in they run independently and save to USB. The laptops are old but they have time to save their work at least. -
It'll miss the 80s aethetic, but now that the original release of GTA VC is actually further back than it's setting was from that game's release, I think it's easy to get caught in a nostalgia loop!

What sort of money do those tend to come in at?

But you’ll be expected to provide onsite support and a warranty! It’s a fine set of components in there - hell of a present!

Always hard to sell complete - from the parts that looks like a £1000 machine but it’s finding a buyer.

Okay, so our docks are Lenovo Hybrid USB-C ones. They’re good kit. Tested with different laptops, PCs and Macs.
-
Tried an HDMI to VGA converter from the dock? That’s what we still have in many rooms, as our docks don’t have VGA.
