I'm kind of in two minds about it. Technically the acting was great and the scenery/camera work fantastic but the plot is thread bear (if you'll excuse the pun!), the story trite and the dialogue dull. One review I read described it as "pain porn" I can see why as it's basically two hours of Dicaprio grimacing, screaming and groaning the entire duration. Wouldn't recommend it overall TBH. If you're looking for something to see at the flicks check out Tarantino's new movie The Hateful Eight. That was way more entertaining IMO. Edited January 18, 2016 by flyinghaggis

Despite the hype, Human Centipede does nothing interesting with the premise or characters. It seems as though the writer thinks a concept is all that is required to make a film. Ugh, I hate this horror genre of "let's think of the most disgusting thing we can think of but not actually put anything else in it that remotely makes it into a movie" At least give me story and interesting characters! Mrs sparkeh cued up "The Duff" the other night. I was not overly keen but actually quite enjoyed it. It's not going to change your life but its above the normal moronic teen fare that's churned out. 1
Sagima Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 I haven;t seen Human Centipede 2 but the first was was entertaining for watching all my friends reactions to it. I also thought the mad scientist guy was quite well played.
sippo Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 I recently watch the Revenant which was ok. Bit unrealistic in places, but an enjoyable watch. Stand Off was ok. Again watchable but nothing spectacular.

If you've seen the likes of Brassed Off or The Full Monty you've got a pretty good idea of the sort of film this is. It's predictable, but has a lot of heart. Interesting to see how one small group's decision has had so much impact on policies. Well worth a look.
CHR1S Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 The Bad Education Movie - the first 15 minutes filled me with some hope it was a credible comedy, but alas the rest of the film flops.... ok for a chuckle but dont expect anything more. Daddys Home - Erm, not the biggest WF fan but do like Wahlberg - was ok, some stupidly low budget SFX that were never needed. It has its funny moments, but thats about it.
Sagima Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Watched The Unborn and Evil Dead recently. The Unborn has a fairly good plot although the script and acting is a bit poor. Not to give too much away but its a film about a demon who was sort of summoned by some Nazis in a camp in WW2 and now is trying to take over the body of a surviving twin in the modern day. Idris Elba and Gary Oldman are a bit wasted in it although it is interesting to hear Idris put on an american accent that seems to consist of saying the first two words of each sentence in american and the falling back to his normal voice. Gary doesn't even put that much effort in. Probably just the right length and one of those films that appears to have been ruined by having it cut to get a PG certificate judging by the reviews while the uncut version is sufficiently entertaining to sit in and watch with a bowl of crisps. The 4.8 stars on IMDB that is got is really quite harsh - it's probably a 6.5 The Evil Dead - I got roped into watching this because my cat had died and seeming everything we tried to watch was either funny (which I wasn't in the mood for) or contained cats (and was thus a bit upsetting at the time) - it was getting a bit ridiculous when looking for things to watch that day that didn't have a cat in them. We had been watching the TV series which is mildly amusing (we particularly like xena wondering around for no reason - it might not be xena but I don't know the character's name and I'm not good with them anyway) but my husband assured me the film wasn't and it isn't. It's not terrible - it seems quite good considering its age and budget but it's not really my cup of tea. It's old enough that I sort of knew what it was about but I don't really understand why Ash wasn't infected (although I have yet to see the sequel so maybe he was) or where xena comes into it as in the tv series she claims to have been involved (i think - I am usually half asleep by the time we get around to watching the tv version) presumably it will all be made clear in tonight's episode. Of the two I probably preferred The Unborn but I have never cared for low budget horror movies or zombie movies (two of my husband's favourite genres unfortunately so I've seena lot now). I'll probably have to add vampire films to that now - they used to be cool but now they just seem to be a bunch old men pretending to be teenagers so they can pick up schoolgirls.

Slight tangent wander - I really dont like how he's always linked with racism or oppression in his roles. Especially in Tarantino films where the N word is used too frequently.

Love the first 3 Die-Hard's.. after that..? Eehhhh.. I do like Sam L's character. In all fairness, look at the neighbourhood he lives in. At the very start of the movie we're seeing theft, gang crime, etc. Typical prospects/ghetto stuff. The racism does make sense, and it is well explained, such as when he explains he didn't save McLane, he stopped a white cop getting shot because he knew there'd be thousands of white cops around the next day and the racial tension would be rife. Yeah, he's a bit pee'd off and there is a racist chip on his shoulder, but I feel that his character is pretty well-rounded. He wants to do the right thing but he's got reservations about it because of where he lives, all he'll have seen is racism despite trying to make an honest living (remember, he turned away stolen goods and told his kids to get to school)

(well from 3 onwards), but it was an awful effort of a film.

LeMarchand Posted February 19, 2016 Author Posted February 19, 2016 John Wick Keanu Reeves plays a retired hitman for the Russian mob whose wife has just passed away, leaving him a small dog to care for as he will need someone to love. (Aaah!). Unfortunately the son of the head mobster takes a shine to Keanu's other love (his car) and steals it, beats up Keanu and I think you can guess the dog's fate. It's time for Keanu to go "Death Wish"... Quite entertaining in a dumb sort of way, though I found the subtitling of the Russian dialogue over showy (and I'm not sure Baba Yaga translates as "The Boogeyman) and found it odd that the Russians held conversations in their own language but spoke English with American accents (for the main part) apart from the head guy, who had a Swedish accent (as he was played by Michael Nyquist). Not sure what they're planning for the mooted sequels as there aren't many bad guys left at the end of the film. Mind you, that's what we thought about "Taken". Zoolander 2 Not as funny as the first one, but it raised a few giggles.
