I love the two Terminator films (THERE WAS NEVER A 3 OR 4 SHUSH YOUR DIRTY MOUTH) but a lot of reviews had been a bit indifferent to it. So I went in with low expectations, and was delighted to find the action was great, there was lots of humour, Daenarys wasn't rubbish (actually quite a good impression of Linda Hamilton) and the plot was fine, with the usual time-travel caveat of don't-think-too-hard; nothing too glaring though. I would go as far as to say Terminator: Genisys was a better sequel to Terminator 2 than Jurassic World was to Jurassic Park. Certainly more enjoyable to this nerd. San Andreas: cheesy earthquake disaster movie starting The Rock. C'mon, you know exactly what you're expecting from that description. I'm only here to tell you it meets all of those expectations in a very entertaining fashion, and sometimes, that's all you really want from a film

Mad Max: Fury Road - an enjoyable romp that I feel requires you to have seen the original trilogy to get the most out of. Bit light on plot, but at least they didn't try to 'fix the world' as some post-apocalyptic movies do - and instead focus on the fight for survival. 2

Agree with you about the overall quality. Gutted about this because it pretty much put the kibosh on any more faithful adaptation of Edgar Rice Burrough's work for the next few years. I'd love to see a faithful "Tarzan" adaptation. (As faithful as possible given the date of publication and hence some of the attitudes towards Africans). Disagree about the ripping off, though. It may have felt like that, but it was more likely the other way around as "A Princess Of Mars" was published in 1912.
Duranis Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 Watched Mockingjay Pt 2 last night. They did a reasonable job of finishing off the series and had most of the key plot points from the book which was nice. I watched this over the weekend and was fairly disappointed. I don't know if I was just missing something or what but the whole film seemed like a whole lot of nothing. Without any spoilers (and bearing in mind I haven't read the books so just judging the film): The first 3/4 of the film had pretty much zero bearing on the plot and just felt like 100% runtime filler. It could have all been cut and the movie could pretty much have started at the scene outside the mansion gates. The whole love triangle crap really could have been resolved 3 films ago and again adds nothing to the plot of the characters. In fact the main characters struggles could have been made much more personal and real if had already been resolved and she showed real feelings towards a certain brain washed guy from the beginning of the last film. Instead we get the same old Mary Sue writing of "I have two great guys that both love me so much, how will I ever choose". All this does is make the main character look like an idiot and removes the opportunity to build a real believable relationship between her and the love interest (which means you basically don't care about what happens between them at all). The overall ending was reasonably interesting even if it wasn't overly well fleshed out. It did seem a bit "Generic ending because I don't know how to properly finish a story" but it kind of worked. Personally I think I would have preferred it if the last 2 films had a ton of filler cut and was just released as 1. It did occur to me (probably obvious in hindsight) that this probably has the same target demographic as Twightlight and that the first film (which I actually really enjoyed) kind of tricked me to just go along with the rest.
Boredguy Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 As they split the 1 book over 2 films, they choose a reasonable spot to split the section into 2 films, with Part 1 being more about the rebellion getting up steam, and Part 2 being more of the emotional fall out of the previous "Hunger Games" and the resolution of their current "76th Hunger Games" They did cut some of the epilogue dialog but it was close enough to the ending of the book to make no real difference. Considering I'm not the teenage market it was aimed at, I enjoyed the entire screenplay adaption (and the books), but then again I also liked the Divergent series so far.

Released under FBI supervision (or not, when the plot needed him to do his own thing) he helps his old college chum - now head of China's cyber crime cops - to track down a hacker who has caused a nuclear meltdown in China and who appears to have his sights set on the USA. I was the only one in the house who stayed awake. It wasn't completely awful, but lots of it verged on the ridiculous, particularly Thor's hacking skills which often consisted of typing 3 commands to perform all sorts of wondrous feats.

I quite like Terminator 3, maybe I'm alone in that one? Star Trek Into Darkness - Hmmm its a difficult one, I really like the original Trek films so the rehash's were filling big boots. I like the modern take on an old movie idea, the paradox of old futuristic is a nice twist but I prefer a future futuristic outlook, anyone till with me here? They manage to pull off their characters well, you would think they really were their younger counterparts.

And yes I prefer a futurey futuristic outlook as well. Terminator 3 was pretty awful compared to the first two but was no worse than the fourth one. I haven't seen genisys yet but I have high hopes for it 1
Sagima Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 Watched Insidious 3 on Saturday. Not too bad, bit predictable plotwise but a few nice jumpy scenes in it. The old woman is, for the third time, clearly the most comfortable and most talented actor cast in it but then I can;t imagine anyone is planning on watching any of these films to be wowed by the depth of script writing and integrity of the acting in them. If anything it was a bit short but that is preferable to going on too long. If you've seen the first two you'd probably enjoy it. It is probably better than the second one if you take them individually but then the second one was much more like the second half of the first one. The first one is still the best of them

One was ground breaking for its time, Two could and does still hold its own today which is even more astounding when you consider its from 1991, 25 years!!! Dare I say a masterpiece of its genre?

Daughter is also hooked on Enchanted which she thinks is hilarious. She's not home from Tanzania until December 20th, so we may be spared that one this year.
