LeMarchand Posted November 11, 2015 Author Posted November 11, 2015 Spectre Finally got in to this (sold out the last couple of weeks before we got there and was sold out last night after we got tickets). Entertaining, with some great sequences and shots. Works well as a tribute to Bonds past and a capstone to the Craig movies, though apparently he's contracted for one more. Not sure why this has been getting sniffy reviews, but (apart from being a bit overly long and the whiney theme) I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Skyfall: A bit weak and needed Shirley Bassey's voice to do it justice. Also someone did a joke version of what the theme would sound like well before it's release and wasn't far off! Spectre: starts well, but goes nowhere and the singer sounds like he's been in Le Chiffre's chair.

What got me was that when Sam Smith was on Graham Norton he said it was difficult to sing as it was a bit high! For goodness sake, HE WROTE IT THAT WAY

For goodness sake, HE WROTE IT THAT WAY It's an awful song! He admits that it only took him five minutes to write. It certainly sounds like it. but then I don't get Sam (I'm so lonely) Smith. He sounds like he's singing whilst trying not to open all of his mouth and generally gets on my nerves.
LeMarchand Posted November 15, 2015 Author Posted November 15, 2015 It's Christmas movie season (one of Mme LeMarchand's favourite genres) so we have had: Get Santa: Santa crashes his new sleigh on a test drive and is banged up. It's up to a newly-released ex-con and his son to break him out and save Christmas. Squarely aimed at the yong 'uns, but tolerably amusing. The Christmas Candle: In the village of Gladbury there is a legend that once every 25 years an angel will bless a single candle in the candle makers that will answer a prayer for whoever lights it. At the dawn of electricity the new vicar is determined to stamp out superstition and get the villagers helping each other. The religious content may put many off (as might Susan Boyle's "acting" - not as bad as it could have been, admittedly) but it's quite a sweet little film. Colour grading is weird, though - everything looks washed out, presumably to make the film feel old and wintery. The Nine Lives of Christmas: Brandon Routh must be wondering where he went wrong. He stars as a confirmed batchelor firefighter who adopts a cat and then meets a sparky vet who keeps her cat in her "no pets allowed" apartment. If you can't work out what happens, you've evidently never watched a Hallmark Movie. Alright for that sort of thing.

It was quite good - pokes fun at lots of things, quite rude in places, and the zombies are a little different to most others I have seen. All in all it was a laugh - especially as we got a free ticket via ShowFilmFirst

Agreed entirely, however I do love the bit towards the end of Revenge of the Sith where Annakin becomes Darth Vader (as we know him) and he's raised up amidst the smoke and lights and speaks in James Earl Jone's voice for the first time :-)

Sagima Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 Watched Kaboom at the weekend. It's not terrible but it's quite an odd film. Describing it is a little tricky without spoiling it - Starts off with American college students doing the sorts of thing college students do (although there is, bizarrely at this point, a witch involved), moves on into a half hearted attempt at a mystery and then suddenly becomes a strange battle for the fate of the world as some psychics attempt to kill everyone on the planet and unnecessarily some accidental incest is revealed. Don't think I could recommend it to anyone but I have seen much worse films.
