Do you have a unifi switch/router/gateway that supports Layer 3 routing. I know I can't do it on my setup as we only have the option for third party router as we don't have a Unifi Gateway/Router

Thats because Lesson Monitor doesn't exist within SNG yet. I still have out office based staff using SIMS.Net, and it's only the teachers using SNG for registers

Tips Don't start using it as if it's SIMS.Net. Treat it the same as any other new platform you've been asked to use, as it is designed more for Teachers so information isn't where you'd expect it to be as an office based role.

If your trying to search e-mails and it's not working, by chance is it within Outlook Legacy?

We had a sync issue at the start of term so our DSL managed to get hold of CPOMS and found out it hadn't syncronised since last July so they managed to get a manual sync request done. Also know one of our other sites had a sync issue end of last week (still didn't have any Y7's on 2 days after they had been enrolled) but weren't able to get a manual sync done. At least with Groupcall if you have a login you can see when the last sync with CPOMS was in your dashboard and give you some understanding on where the issue is (especially if other services syncing with Group call are up to date)

One of our sites reported similar issues yesterday and raise an issue with our support provider. Not heard what the outcome was have noticed a few issues about it since the Summer release came out back in July which forced linked docs to go to Sims Next Gen storage by default (never mind the fact the onsite doc storage has hardly uploaded content yet making it a real case of pot luck for where a document might be)

Each year I archive all our KS3 teams and the outgoing Yr11 ones until at least Dec/Jan when I then delete them. As I have the team GUIDs from where I create them via Powershell each Sept (and use it to keep group membership up to date from SIMS), it's easy to use a Powershell script to then archive the teams on mass. As we backup all our 365 resources to Barracuda, we have the files kicking around for at least a year after if we need to restore them, but so far never needed to

That sounds more like a veeam/SQL issue more so than it just being because you've moved to a VM. It depends what file it thinks is in use, but in days of old I'd often stop the SQL service before doing some of my backups to ensure we didn't get errors. Not such an issue now as our backup solution actually integrates with SQL to perform the backups, plus we also backup the whole VM from the Host backup for additional belt and braces (does mean we can restore the whole VHDX file instead of the fun of just the SIMS SQL and remembering to run the right commands to remerge the user accounts)

I turned off the SharePoint links in OneDrive via Powershell for our site, so only documents that get synchronised are their own OneDrive resources (partly cause some staff had a SharePoint site linked and when 1 person deleted folders to clean it up, they logged on to another device and it synced them all back again) I have our workstations set to different profile clean up durations based on the typical use. Stations with high user use in a day cleans profiles up daily (such as student stations, Staff Room etc) Lower user stations get profiles cleaned up every 5 days (Classrooms/Offices where 2 or 3 users every couple of days) Finally stations which typically have the same user on it, have on a 30 day clean up. You users can still use the fill Office applications, if you spend the time training them on how to open/navigate OneDrive/SharePoint sites via the Web interface lists for the files within at apps, instead of "This PC" or always using the File Browser to open docs up outside of the application (and we all do it as it's so ingrained in our behaviour)

The option to move to the online archive (which is a mailbox option within Exchange) is different to the Archive option for Exchange Plan 2. As I said, I've been running this config on A1 and A3 tenancies for the last 8 years without any issue.

Well as I'm setting it up on tenancies that only have A1 licences, and it is a legacy part of Exchange you should still be able to use it.

I detailed our Retention Policy and the tags we have applied on a previous thread -> I've got this setup on the majority of our MAT tenancies, and as the tags we're using are not the "Personal" ones, they take effect for everything in the Inbox etc without any issues. In fact I've not put any of "Personal" tags that users can select into the Retention Policy.

Check to see if you still have the Legacy Exchange Mailbox Tags here https://purview.microsoft.com/datalifecyclemanagement/exchange/retentiontags As we are still using this for our schools on both A1 and A3 licences, and have done for a while, even before we got P1.

I setup our Zabbix monitoring on our servers to notify if the SSM service stops working since its likely faster than waiting for an e-mail about a sync failure.

There was a bit in the July notes for SIMS that come summer update new documents that would normally go into the local document server will start going to the Next Gen one instead of local server, so it might be that is the root cause.

In the retention tags section, create the tags that you want, such as Default Mailbox Item Delete 2 years, and set retention period to be 730 days. Once you've created the tags, go into the Retention Policies and create yourself a new Policy and add the tags you want it to have. For example, my Extended Retention Policy has the following tag assigned Archive E-mail 730 Days (Moves e-mails over 2 years to online Archive) Archive Removal Policy (Deletes any e-mails over 3 years) Deleted Items Removal (Deletes items in the "Deleted" folder over 30 days) Junk E-Mail (Deletes items in the Junk/Spam folder over 7 days) Sync Issues Removals (Deletes items from the Sync Issues folder over 30 day) Then in Exchange, go to the person you want to have the different mailbox retention policy and pick your new one you just created. If you wanted everyone to get the new restrictions, then you add the retention tags you want to the "Default MRM Policy" and remove any you don't want (which are often the self assigned ones)

Will be interesting to see how long it takes support to reply to the tickets.

Nope I set it up back when we just had A1 Plus licences. At the time the tags were under Exchange, but they moved it to be within Purview https://purview.microsoft.com/datalifecyclemanagement/exchange/retentiontags

Yep we do this using the legacy tags still in Purview Normal Staff and students all get 1 year retention, and we created an extended retention for up to 3 years for certain users (just assign that retention policy in Exchange to them)

Do believe it's still recommended to leave SQL in 2012 compatibility mode

We use Enviro Electronics and have a large wheelie bin at each school site (Similar to the large waste bins) and we just drop in any electronic device and when it's full we arrange for a collection. Thankfully it's a free service, and most of the time we get a collection arranged at least twice a year.

Come on, don't go being logical that we have some users that we only want them to have access to minimal data. To be honest, I wouldn't expect Bromcom and Arbor to have such granular control over access to features like SIMS.Net has due to the difference in requirement over website and client. Think we need to start switching our mindset for SIMS Next Gen to be exactly what it is, a new product and not really a incremental update from SIMS.Net, and as such things like permissions need to be reviewed as if you moved to a new MIS completely.

I'd guess they are matching based on the backend guid for the default groups rather than the granular permissions we all likely setup since a class teacher might not have needed access to everything that capita originally thought they would 15 yrs ago.
