You have to assign the classes to the mobile device group you would like them to be able to login to. You should have a list of users within a class. You then say this class can sign into this bank of iPads. And edu profile will be created and automatically sent to the devices. Not familiar with Mosyle interface/terminology as I use Jamf but the process should be the same.

Sounds like the cells might be formatted to Text so that the cell acts as a text field. See if changing the format of the cell helps. With the copy issue, try right clicking a cell and mouse over Paste Special, this will give you a few more options. If you mouse over the options it will show in the cell what it will paste. This might be stuff you've tried all ready but can't think of anything else.

Are SIMS Student and SIMS Parent down for everyone?
RLR replied to David44's topic in Cloud Services
We don't use the Student or Parent side of it but we do use the SIMS Teacher App. I've just had a member of staff in saying they can't login. Need to find some more staff to see if they're experiencing any issues. Might be linked but might not be. -
We came across this when we enforced bitlocker last year. We had to change our setup slightly so that only devices on the allowed list (GPO) are allowed to be installed. The issue we're now finding is "devices" refers to all devices and not just USB sticks so our allowed list just keeps growing to include keyboards, mice etc. Hoping someone has a simpler way of doing this.

Isn't this similar to OnLive (didn't last very long)? I can see it working for single player games but I guess latency would be an issue in multiplayer games. Hopefully this paragraph will prove me wrong: Developers and researchers at Microsoft Research are creating ways to combat latency through advances in networking topology, and video encoding and decoding. Project xCloud will have the capability to make game streaming possible on 4G networks and will dynamically scale to push against the outer limits of what’s possible on 5G networks as they roll out globally. Currently, the test experience is running at 10 megabits per second. Our goal is to deliver high-quality experiences at the lowest possible bitrate that work across the widest possible networks, taking into consideration the uniqueness of every device and network.

[sims] Script to add student email addresses in to SIMS.net
RLR replied to kennysarmy's topic in MIS Systems
There must be a way to do it as we have a piece of software called Salamander that does this for us. Not sure how though so not much help! -
Not sure why schools would stop using it. We've been using it for the past 2 years. It's had some issues but most of the time works really well. All our staff use it to take their register/reports. We use google apps so the staff sign in with their school google account. It works better than when we used Emerge. I wish the SIMS teacher portal would get updated. The devices tab gets very full and doesn't really mean anything once the device has been enrolled.

We have children from all ages. Our 3-11 year olds have 2:1 iPads using the new shared iPad mode where they login to their own managed apple ID by clicking a picture. With the new content caching on the MAC this was pretty easy to deploy. Only down side was having to do 10/15 at a time due to not having a bigger sync unit. Our 11-18 year olds have 1:1 iPads where everything is automated. They just have to do the initial setup which is a few pages. Core apps get downloaded automatically to the iPad and they have a Self Service area to downloaded other apps. All these students also have 2 step verification setup on their school google accounts. I think the biggest thing is getting staff on board and getting staff that want to curate new ways of teaching.

MDM Installation/Updating of MS Word iPad
RLR replied to bknaggs's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
This was an issue at apple's end I believe. Long thread here about it: https://www.jamf.com/jamf-nation/discussions/29299/apps-staying-grayed-out#responseChild172196 -
[ipad] Apple Schools Manager - Apple Classroom - SIMS - Meraki
RLR replied to jcraig's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
JAMF allows you to push a command to turn bluetooth on. I believe but not tested, this command also overrides the restrictions profile so if they have bluetooth restrictions on, and bluetooth turned off, this command will override it and turn it on. -
[ipad] Apple Schools Manager - Apple Classroom - SIMS - Meraki
RLR replied to jcraig's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
As for the Bluetooth queries, Bluetooth can now be controlled with a command to turn it off or on (as long as your MDM has implemented it). You can then set a restrictions profile to stop them altering the Bluetooth setting. -
Not sure if this helps but I just got an email in regards to a webinar about becoming google cloud certified. Can register here: https://cloudonair.withgoogle.com/events/emea-gcp-certification-webinar

Thank you! The Character mapping for languages is amazing.

+1 for GAM. We use it for a lot of things that can't be done in the admin interface.
-
Yes, we have the same. Reminds them every day for 20 days to reset their password.

Amazing! Our SENCo will be happy. They are asking for a MAC to do their exams as it's easy to do accents by holding down keyboard keys. I'm glad we won't have to do this now. Not even sure if there is any decent word processing software available for MACs.

[ipad] Won't install certain apps (Jamf)
RLR replied to Shadow_Walker's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
On the App page there are 2 tick boxes: Make app managed when possible Make the app managed when managed app requirements are met Make app managed if currently installed as unmanaged Manage the app if it is currently installed as an unmanaged app (the user is prompted to allow management on unsupervised devices) -
[ipad] Won't install certain apps (Jamf)
RLR replied to Shadow_Walker's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
I had this issue last year when I setup new iPads. I don't think I found a fix but it has something to do with the iWorks apps now being part of the standard IOS install. I will have to setup some more this summer so would like to know if anyone has a fix for this. -
This would be a great starting point!

Feature Request: Some of the language students are using word processing and require certain words/letters to have their accents on. This is possible using the Character Map button but this is also very big so a lot of time is wasted scrolling through. Also, clicking select then copy is more time consuming. I was wondering if it's possible (maybe from a config setting) to put a list of specific letters and their accents on a bar somewhere. Down the side? Categorised by the language. Maybe have a drop down box to select the language to show specific accents. Just a thought.

Just an FYI and not really related to the question. We've got some iPad airs still floating around but our main bulk of iPads are the pros. The Airs a defiantly a lot slow and less responsive than they use to be. I guess this is due to the IOS updates.
-
We're in a similar boat but have iPad pros. We're being charged around £300 per broken screen and the repair job is not always great. We've actually started sending them back to apple to get a replacement. It wasn't much more to send them to apple and get a new device. It's nice to hear the latest iPads are built differently. We've got some iPad 9.7 5 Gens and will be getting more iPad 9.7 6 Gens this year. Our iPad pro lease is finishing next year so can swap most of them out for the new iPad 9.7. Our staff will still need the Pros due to having an apple keyboard.

Thanks for the info. What other games do you play at school? I guess the students will need to logout of their accounts at the end of their session to stop others using it.

This is something I would like to start in our school. I was thinking of games such as Rocket League and Overwatch but not sure how to go about setting up accounts etc. I guess most students might have their own Steam account that'd help. Might try this for next year.
