Hi Folks, We have been looking for a good basic alternative to wordpad for exams. So I decided to write my own with the following features: 1. Background colour change for Dyslexia students 2. Auto-Backup every one minute (so you can recover any file from up-to one hour of launching the app - backup files are stored in the logged on users %temp% folder) 3. 12 point size font (screen & print) as suggest by the exam boards 4. Word & Character Counts 5. Its a Fullscreen App & portable (just an exe and config) Please give it a try and if you like it - use it! Any bugs or suggestions please reply to this thread. Thanks!! EDIT http://www.examwritepad.com is now live for people to use...

I have set the ExamWritePadSettings.Json to show only 1 copy { "Setting_Name": "PrintNumCopies", "Setting_Value": "1" }, what I would now like to do is set this to only 1 copy (as this is set above) and not let the user be able to change that figure, so the students have no control on altering the number of copies printed TIA

Hi Hive Mind, (I know there's an ExamWritePad sticky thread - but it is huge, and this is a discrete, complex issue, so I thought it would be better in a separate post.) I've got a really weird issue with ExamWritePad (up to date, paid) starting slowly when on the network and I wonder if anyone has any ideas: I have 10 exam laptops - basic Windows 10 install, domain joined. They need to be on WiFi for printing, but not to have internet access because exams :-) Everything about EWP is local to the SSD: program, license, config file, saving, autosave location... The config is set not to check for updates on startup. I have IP reservations for the WiFi MACs of these laptops, and our Fortigate is set not to allow them to see the internet, limiting them to the internal network - but see below. When I boot and log in with normal internet access (wired connection, or WiFi but with IP set outside the exam laptop range by changing the reservation) EWP starts in ~5 seconds When I boot and log in with no internet access (IP reserved into exam range) EWP takes about 28s to run. I've therefore logged all the web traffic from the time of plugging into the wired network until EWP is run (via our Fortigate) and allowed traffic to all the sites accessed from the exam laptop IP range, except for bing.com - they are mostly ocsp related, which I believe is related to certificate checking. However, this made no difference - still a 28s EWP startup time. When I use a normal internet connection and get the 5s EWP startup I can then revert to the connection with the internet blocked and close EWP or even reboot and still get the 5s startup for some time. However, a few hours later (I'm not sure of exact timing) it reverts to 28s until the next time it is given unfiltered internet access. I know 28s isn't that much, but there's no indication on screen that anything is happening (no "eggtimer" animation except in the first and last couple of seconds) and it is long enough to be confusing, meaning users click multiple times etc. Plus it's the principle of thing! Has anyone got any ideas of what is causing this or what to try? I think I'm at a loss now. Thanks in advance if anyone has any ideas (other than disconnecting from the network - now we are printing via it instead of USB sticks I'd rather wait 28s for startup than go back!) Ben

Hi all, I am pretty new to the world of IT and I am trying to work out how to use the Commandline Printing feature of ExamWritePad. I want to bulk print a folder containing 11 .EXAMTEXT files, the process I go through is: Open CMD CD C:\Program Files\ExamWritePad .\CommandlinePrinting.exe /FOLDER:"C:\temp\FILES" /PRINT:"default" /COPIES:"1" Hit enter Using this process it goes to the next line and doesn't print (Or in this instance, the papercut prompt doesn't show). The default printer is FollowMe using Papercut, I have attempted to also use /PRINT:"\\PRINTSERVER\The printer I want". Could Papercut be causing the issue or am I doing something completely stupid? I have only been here for 4 months, so I am unsure if there is a setting in the config that could prevent me from using Commandline Printing? Thanks!

For those that deploy Examwritepad by GPO how do you handle permissions? Do you run a seperate GPO? I have installed ExamWritePAd by GPO but non-admin users cannot run. I have checked the security settings and non-admin users do not have Read/Execute permissions so I need to set. How do others do and how do you manage this?

Hi, I have found lots of guidance on this and have a GPO that blocks proofing tools for exam accounts using Word (Office 365) and the options to turn them back on. I have found two issues though. 1) The option for spelling and grammar is still enabled on the review tab. I believe this should be blocked using policy id 2566 but it is not working. 2) On the status bar there is an option for "Text Predictions: On" (or Off). If a student clicked on this they will get access to the options page. Can anyone help with resolving these?

Hi all, We're using Examwritepad in our school and recently, I noticed that when using coloured font and printing, the print preview changes everything back to black and doesn't print colour. We need this facility for extra-time students. Is there a way around this? We are on version 22.12.19.1924, which I appreciate is a bit old. Many thanks.
