Can you get on to the server hosting the SIMS database as a windows administrator in the domain? Can you then find a program called Management Studio? Can you connect to your SQL instance using Windows Integrated (think thats the wording) under authentication. Rather than using SQL authentication. Then find the database, right click, backup from there. I don't think I needed to know the SA password when we migrated.

Hi, Bit of a long shot. Does anyone have a copy of the Hitachi Storage Navigator Modular 2 software. We've been using an old FC SAN for some backup and replication stuff, but the software on our backup server has stopped working. I've found as high as v11 online but we were on v28 before and v11 isn't compatible. If anyone has a copy it would be much appreciated. Cheers

Am in agreement about the parent and student portals being poor. Especially when parents were used to Edulink. The one I don't get about the portals is some of the differences between parent and student. The only answer I have is someone at Arbor has their primary student head on when configuring their side. For example, why can parents see their child's whole attendance record and even download an attendance certificate and a student can only see their percentage attendance. Why can parents see all of the child's behaviour incidents and the reason, given by teacher, etc whereas a student only sees their total incident count. We really expect the girls here to take ownership of their school life and the portal doesn't allow it so I've built a dashboard for them on their internal Google site. I've also had to do some custom reporting through the API to get proper reports for clubs and staff development.

Thanks all. I've reported it up the chain and the school is contacting the LA for confirmation that they've informed the other schools and the ICO. Someone mentioned it depended on what data it was above...it was the full census XML file that gets uploaded to collect for the DfE to see - so pretty much a lot of sensitive info.

Just wanted you check with the edubrains if I have to take action in this scenario: Sent secure census XML to LA for them to upload to DfE. Asked for some of the reports from COLLECT to be returned to me via the same secure file exchange system. Instead of the reports I received my census XML and those of 6 other schools in the LA. I reported the mistake to the LA. Am I under any obligation of reporting the breach to the other schools, my schools DPO, or the ICO. I feel I have done my part and anything else is shit stirring. On the other hand I would like to know if I was the other school and what action has been taken.

Yeah, I had the same panic this September. Just had to create an academic year that covered the date the server was on eg 22/23 and I was back in.

And not sure what effect it would have on Chromebooks and especially ones that are already signed on to the personal account.

Could also do a custom report like this and then have a pivot table looking at the output in excel or sheets. Useful if you need more info like student ID that the memberships page doesn't give.

That looks like the table under - Students-Enrolment-Academic-Courses-Memberships You would be best to do one report per year group so you can narrow down the courses so the columns aren't crazy.

So just going back to the question on calculating targets from KS2 data. It can definitely set targets throughout the year based on baselines and end of year targets. Data manager says that normally Arbor will carry over last years final grade as baseline for next year. That may suit your school....For some reason this school likes to set their baseline based on their KS2 data and GCSE target flightpath - e.g. where they should be at the start of Year 9 based on where their flightpath says they should be at the start of Y9, rather than where they were at the end of Y8.

The other shocker for me is the student portal. We came from using Edulink on top of SIMS so even the Arbor parent portal is limited compared to Edulink. But the student portal is just stuck on as a feature they can say they have to secondaries. Parents can see all attendance marks, download a PDF attendance certificate. Great. But we want students to take ownership of their attendance and what can they see... Just a percentage. Parents can see behaviour incidents and points. Which teacher gave them and the reason. Students can see.. Just their total points. No way for a student to see that Mrs Jones gave them a achievement point for their excellent work in class and spur them on. Same for students being able to see their basic assessment data like baselines and targets. Just isn't anywhere to be seen from there end. All of which has let me to build something that goes on their student Google site that allows them to see all of that info.

Think someone that's a bit more knowledgeable has answered the last few questions. On report cards, it definitely seems like a feature that was built for the primary school customers and needs some catching up for the more complex needs Secondaries have. There are two built in reports. I haven't tried them since our first data drop with Arbor in October/November but we thought they were shit to put it nicely. There's basically not enough flexibility. We used to use SIMS individual reports and would have a front page with the logo, a second page with some explanation of some of the things in the report, a picture of flight paths. You can't do that with the inbuilt reports. You also couldn't rely on the formatting to be correct. The short reports would show the teacher names as Headteacher: Mr J Bloggs, where as the long reports would show Headteacher: Joe Bloggs. Random blank pages. Formatting all over the place. 250 character limit on comments... If you did like the report cards, at the time you couldn't share them to students via email or the portal. That's there now and they've have added the ability to upload any reports you create by merging back to Arbor - their external report cards. But we still don't use that as we've come up with a way of doing it on Google drive where we can see if a parent or student has looked at the report card. There's no view statistics on Arbor.
