1. Have you looked into rclone? I'm just doing this now and might save you some money. Might be worth looking at if you have some free cloud storage. Reddit thread on it: https://rclone.org/
2. To revive an old thread: Just been tasked to install this over the summer ready for next year. It seems like the SDK is now part of the original download. Is anyone here still silently installing this software and has a way that works?
3. I get issues with Windows 10 and Sibelius (we're on the latest version of sibelius). It's not necessary the issue you're getting but it might be worth checking what we look for. This might be different for 7.5.1 as we're on 8.3 Open Sibelius, select the Play tab. On the left side you will see Setup with a small arrow (underneath configuration and mixer). Select the small arrow to open Playback Devices. We sometimes mess around with the playback devices to see if that helps. Also on this page, you'll see Audio Engine Options. Click this button and change the Interface drop down box to Primary Sound Driver. Might work, might not. This is the main thing we check when they're are Sibelius sound issues. We have an issue where sound doesn't play on youtube if Sibelius is open.
4. Possible Salamander have updated something and got the wrong syntax? I would email their support to check it out.
5. We using GSuite with Windows machines and 1:1 iPads. Chromebooks not really needed as everything is browser/app based.
6. +1 for salamander. They create all our Classes for us.
7. We let them use them if they really want but are told it's only local to that machine and not backed up. They are meant to use Google Drive File Stream.
8. We don't get too many requests for access to files in My Drive. Most teachers will share it with them so this shouldn't be a problem unless the teacher is off ill. Again, most of these files should be in a team drive if multiple people need access to them. On the rare occasions that we do need to change permissions, I use GAM. We usually create specific Team Drives for moderation files.
9. We've moved almost everything over to Google Drive now. We got staff to move their department resources into Team/Shared drives. We've have now removed their H drives so they use Google for everything. Google Drive File Stream is a must to keep people happy. It's really good as it make Google Drive appear as a network location. You can open/edit Microsoft Office Documents straight from File Explorer. Defiantly make sure you get sharing permissions ready and make sure you delegate Manager access to the Team/Shared drive areas and that the managers know what they're meant to be doing. This isn't something we've communicated too well and IT are having to make a lot of access changes. We want the managers to be doing this.
10. I had this with some Macs. I think it was something to do with them using UTC timezone instead of GMT?
11. We've been using Google Drive for a few years now. We've just recently turned off all network drives and home drives for staff. We made them move everything to Team/Shared Drive and Google Drive. Google Drive File stream is really amazing. You can open Microsoft Office Documents with it in their native app. Some a Word Document will open in Word on a PC. Google have also made it so you can edit Microsoft Office files via the browser using Google Docs/Slides/Sheets. As a backup, we're just trialling Spanning Backup and Backupify atm the moment.
12. We get this with Jamf. The cloud icon means cloud data is there but the app isn't installed (this is how iCloud restore now works). From my Jamf Support discussions they suggest deleting the device out of Jamf before doing the restore. This is because the device inventory thinks the apps are already installed from when it was previously active. Also, try restarting the device if nothing looks like it is happening. Thirdly, if you have a lot of app licenses scoped, you may have to wait for licenses to filter through. Don't expect everything to happen straight away. Give it 30 mins and then try. If the app is set to install automatically, you can try sending a blank push or inventory update after 30 mins. If it is not set to install automatically and they download it from your portal, you will need to download this manually (self service in jamf). I hate iCloud restores so much that we've made our staff and students set up as new iPads this time round. We made sure they backed everything up to Google Drive before wiping their device. A few students didn't listen and did do iCloud restores but we've managed to sort them. Mostly just a waiting game.
13. We don't have one here but when I did my Uni course we used Turn It In. The students could use it themselves so the teacher didn't have to do it all. It pretty much told you exactly what was plagiarised so you could check and edit it. Might be different now as this was about 8 years ago.
14. We've been buying TV's for the past few years now. Think we've replaced all our IWB now except the ones in science block as they "need" them for their work.
15. Apples website says it is at the moment. That thread is a couple years old so it may have changed: https://www.apple.com/uk/education/how-to-buy/solution-experts/ List on website: Western Computer Group Ltd Academia Limited Toucan Computing Ltd Solutions Inc. Group Limited Albion Computers Plc British Telecommunications Plc Trams Limited GBM Digital Technologies Ltd Micro Computer Consultants Ltd Jigsaw Systems Ltd KRCS Group Ltd XMA Limited JTRS Ltd
16. We had them in for a visit a couple of months ago as we where in the process or swapping out 900 iPads. We had been using Solution Inc as one of our 3 quotes that we required. They didn't come in at the cheapest so we didn't go with them.
17. We joke about our iPads in the IT department. We're a 1:1 school and also 2:1 in our younger schools using shared iPad mode (manage about 1400 iPads). We call them Google iPads as they're pretty much used to access Google apps (google classroom, google drive, google mail). There are a lot of other apps that are used like kahoot, quizlet, Notability (big one). I think they're really good devices and a lot has changed over the last couple of years to make them more manageable but just feel apple are a bit behind on things. Apple Classwork is nowhere near as good as Google Classroom. We spend quite a bit on dongles as all our classrooms have Lightning to HDMI adaptors and a PC with Airserver installed. The adaptor is more of a backup if Airserver isn't working. They also go missing quite a lot!
18. We make sure all our users sign the correct policies, and sign a confidentiality agreement. We're just about to have 2 members of the local authority needing access to Google Drive to help a student with his work.
19. You might be able to script it with GAM:https://github.com/jay0lee/GAM/wiki/GoogleDriveManagement#downloading-drive-files-for-users This command will just do one user but if you can get a CSV file with all your users in then it shouldn't be too difficult to do. gam user "][email protected] get drivefile query "'me' in owners" format microsoft

Free Games

Love these free games threads. I'll never play them but my kids might when they get a bit older! Just adding them to my library(s).
21. We also use MyConcern. Very straight forward to use.
22. +1 for GoPhish. Free and simple to setup.
23. I did this a few years ago and don't really know the steps to take these days but we used Two Canoes Winclone Pro to take an Image of a iMac using duel boot. Winclone Pro for Business and Education | Twocanoes Software
24. Yes, just copy and paste it into the rules tab. You can remove the spaces if you want.
25. It's probably worth editing the Bootstrap.ini to use the the en-GB also: SkipBDDWelcome=YES KeyboardLocale=en-GB The SkippBDDWelcome gets rid of the welcome screen which is an extra click. It's not needed. Remember, this is in the bootstrap.ini and not rules/customsettings.ini.
