  3. Hello. Thanks for the reply. I tell a lie, it runs out the software we have is the UTM!. I have just gone to the Smoothwall Download page again, entered our licence key and it says UTM Software so I am assuming this is the one? I have downloaded that and reinstalled, but still nothing. Is there something I need to modify for this to work? Cheers James
  4. Hello Guys, I have an old Smoothwall S4 appliance that I would like to use for our BYOD network, but the HDD had failed which I had to replace. I have reinstalled Smoothwall Secure Web Gateway, which installs fine and works, however on the LCD of my appliance, it just displays ** Has anybody else ran into this problem if you have had to manually reinstall Smoothwall on an appliance. The model of the appliance is a CASWELL 3000. Thanks. James
  5. Hello, Do you have an RM Support contact? There has being a few updates on the RM website for the RM Service Host service, and I am wondering if maybe one of these updates may fix your problem. Cheers James
  6. Good Evening All, Yes, it's 18:31, and I am still working without a beer . Is it just me, or is there no CC4 packages for SIMS Autumn 2016? I have searched the RM website, and I can only find packages for versions, 2013, 2014 and 2015. Maybe I am being silly, and its something really basic but can someone please point me into the right direction? Thank you, James
  7. Hi Guys, Thanks for the replies. Well, I thought of creating a software exception in the RMMC, but this is were I ran into a problem. The software on the external drives basically acts as a CD drive, which when you run the software it and enter the correct password it unlocks the drive, and then the HDD appears in Windows Explorer. Unfortunately these drives have to be data encrypted due to confidential material being stored on them. Now my problem is, when I enter an exception in the RMMC, I don't know what drive letter the hard drive's software CD drive will grab, it will be different every time. So what I tried to do was copy the software from the drive and package it up, but it knows when the software itself is running from the drives and not my package location. Hope this makes sense. Cheers James
  8. Hello Guys, We have recently purchased some WD My Passport external hard drives for staff to use, which are encrypted. We have tried to get this working on CC4 but the software will not open for Staff running from the drive itself. Is there a way to deploy the WD drive software, and has anyone achieved running these on a CC4 network? Logging on as a System Administrator, the drive opens fine because the software launches and asks for the password, but as a Staff or student user it wont even open the software. Any ideas? All ideas is greatly appreciated as always Cheers James
  9. Your probably right, but everyone has their own opinion on RM networks and vanilla, but from our experience, CC4 suits our school perfectly. There is good and bad with both networks to be honest, its all about what is best for the school and the number of people you have in your IT department which for us is not many.
  10. Well I give credit where it is deserved. Allot of people doubt RM for their networks, but from my point of view yes they may have glitches and problems from time to time, but there support is fantastic and issues are very quickly resolved. That was our first version of CC4 was 4.2, we upgraded from CC3 to 4.2, then to 4.3 and now we are on 4.5, when you get the upgrade and the advantages that it has you wont look back. Good luck with the upgrade, hope it goes as planned! -
  11. Hello Guys, As some of you may be aware, but on CC4.3 and CC4.5 there was a problem with Windows 7 builds where the build client would start searching for updates, but then timeout and fail. RM have got to the bottom of this and have released a fix which is currently in field trial. I myself for our school have installed the field trial, and I can confirm that mine (CC4.5 network) and another friend (CC4.3 Network) are no longer having any WSUS problems. Just want to say a massive thank you to RM, it has made my builds allot more easier and the computers are ready to use fully when they have being built. What the update does, it creates a scheduled task to run on the CC4 First Server to cleanup the WSUS database, but also the CC4 database so it doesn't take so long to search for updates no more. As well as this, I have also freed up about 24GB of disk space from the WSUS folder with unused updates. For those of you wondering what update I am talking about, please see: DWN5037756 Good job RM! James
  12. Well, I do remember this a while back and the solution for me was to use port 801 as the proxy on the servers so they are not going through the web filter. Might be worth logging a call with Smoothwall, they are such a friendly team and can fix problems very quickly!
  13. Just want to say a massive thank you for the advice on the drivers. I downloaded the Chipset and Graphics driver for these machine, and I have manually installed them on a few machines. When they have rebooted, Google Chrome now opens with no problems. It wouldn't of entered my head as originally we thought it was because Chrome wasn't updating, but just goes to show how we overlook problems. Thanks again
  14. Hello, Thank you for the reply. Google Chrome use to work fine with the original RM package, it is something we have discovered recently. I will however have a play with the drivers and get back to you. Cheers James
  15. Hello Guys, I have a strange problem with Google Chrome on our CC4.5 network. Some of the computers, when a user logs on and starts Google Chrome, the computer halts and the cursor starts flashing. If you moves the cursor over the desktop background hyperlinks display as if Google Chrome is running, but you just cannot see it. Has anybody else ran into this or experienced it. At first we thought it was because Google Chrome was not updating, however we have checked our Smoothwall and it is updating as it should. Thanks James
  16. I agree with these posts, it is most likely a driver issue. However, I would try the following. 1. Have you tried another laptop or computer to get it to reinstall Windows? 2. Have you restarted the DHCP service? 3. Has the DHCP scope used all its available addresses? 4. Can you reauthorize WDS? Depending on the boot image you have chosen, if it is a Windows 7 x32 boot image, you will need to inject a 32bit NIC driver for it to be able to install the OS. However if it is a 64bit boot image, then you will need a 64 bit driver. Hope this helps. James
  17. Well you should have no problem in doing that. All you need to do is a bare metal recovery backup of the server, and test it out by restoring it do a computer and see if everything is working as it should be. Have you ever thought of going to a virtual environment such as VMWare?
  18. Hello, I won't advice on the RAID choice as these guys have already done that. However, in terms of doing a disaster recovery on CC4 it all depends on what version of CC4 it is, i.e, CC4.2, CC4.3 or CC4.5. With the newer versions of CC4, you can use Windows Server Backup to create an identical copy of the server, and then just boot to a Windows Server Installation disc and instead of installing Windows, there is an option to restore from a backup. Baring in mind, you would have to recreate 3 drives for the backup to restore, C for Windows, D for RM Stuff and H for the users. Hope this helps. James
  19. Just exactly what I was going to say kjadams, I discovered the same situation a couple of days ago, brand new projector out the box which was an Epson, mounted it to the ceiling and connected it up, and it was flickering. So I put a VGA cable from a laptop directly to the projector and it was fine, it turns out the VGA cable in the ceiling was faulty.
  20. As far as I was concerned, didn't RM talk about using DISM to inject updates and patches into the CC4 WIM images? I believe it was shown at a technical seminar they hosted this year. Could be wrong, but it might be something worth looking into.
  21. Hello Again Ausy, Thanks again for your reply. I have now set Smoothwall to use its internal DNS server, I have created 2 DNS forwarders to Google DNS, and I set the conditional DNS forwarder to the IP of my DC, it asked for a domain box so I put mydomain.internal. Is this correct? Thanks James
  22. Hello People. This is just a general question for something me and a few others where wondering. We have a CC4.5 network and I was away when we had the engineer, but my question is, how is this process done? I am thinking of a change in career, and wanting to apply for a job with RM, this is why I am asking. Thanks Superaz300
  23. A big thank you to Ausy! It turns out I was installing the certificate as a user instead of the computer, as soon as I did this by GPO the certificate error has gone away. Also, I now have Smoothwall authenticating against AD. Much appreciated! Thanks again, James
  24. Hello People, I am wondering if anyone can help me. I have created a new install of Smoothwall, and I have confiured this setup to authenticate users with AD. I have also enabled on the block page for it to display the computers host name, but for some reason instead of the host name being displayed it just gives me the IP address of the device. Can someone point me into the right direction of what to set the DNS settings to on Smoothwall in an Active Directory environment. Thanks for reading, I will look forward to the replies. James
  25. Good Evening People. I am new to Smoothwall, so I decided to setup the Advanced Firewall UTM at home, which I do have a licence for. I've managed to get the Internet setup and is working, but I am really stuck on the SSL HTTPS side and AD integration. When a AD client goes onto the internet, its fine until they visit a website like Facebook, then it displays a certificate error and then the Smoothwall block page. I have created a Smoothwall group on the smoothwall system itself, and pointed it to Domain Admins, and then I have allowed Domain Admins to access everything, but I still get a block page. What I need to know is. 1. How do I create an SSL certificate so I can deploy it with GPO to stop the certificate errors. 2. How do I fix my AD Authentication so its actually talking properly to AD, I know it isn't because on the block page where it says User, this is replaced by an IP address instead of a Username. All help, guides is appreciated. I do have access to the Smoothwall Support Knowledge library so if there is something I have missed on there, please let me know. Cheers James
