Hi, folks. I have a suite of 21 EliteDesk 800 G5. In the last fortnight, 6 of the M.2 drives in these PCs have failed. And another one just died today. All with the same symptoms - drive isn't showing in F10. Or will for 1 boot, then it fails to read on subsequent reboots (not power downs). At random intervals, a PC with the faulty drive attached will fail to even go into F10 - it sits on "Entering setup". Fault is definitely with the drives - if I swap between a working/non-working G5, the issue repeats on the previously working G5. Drive doesn't show up when attached to an M.2 <> USB adapter. The PCs are under HP warranty, so I've had them swapped out - but it's an alarming failure rate! My colleagues in other schools are reporting similar issues. Is anyone else experiencing something similar? Or have we just been sent a bad batch?

Hi, I'm replacing some of our PC hard drives with SSD's and wondered how to transfer what's already on the PC to the new SSD? My question is can i image the current PC which is already connected to the domain by syprepping it and capturing an image with WDS and deploying that image back to the new hard drives?

Samsung recently updated their SSD Magician application so I thought I would post a link to it here. It is compatible with 470, 830 and 840 series SSDs and now supports GPT formatted drives on UEFI systems (the previous version didn't). Since Windows 7 & 8 already know how to deal with SSDs, the only thing I use it for is to check the health of my SSDs and ensure I am running the latest firmware. Hi all, I am attempting to backup my Hyper V machines using a local external SSD drive, however I am receiving an error message “Not enough space to create the volume shadow copy on the storage location”. The drive has been formatted so it is completely empty. My Hyper V storage size is 1.3TB and my SSD drive is a 2TB. Am I missing something obvious here? Many thanks V

Hi All, Has anyone had any joy in finding a suitable bracket for the old RM Ecoquiet 965 PCs? I.e. in order to install a 2.5" SSD into either the 3.5" bay or the 5.25" bay? I've not had much finding any compatible brackets in the past due to the limitations of the case i.e. mounting points, small internal space etc and had to bodge it in the past. I've had a look online and had a look in the forums here before posting but to no avail. I know they're old PCs by our standards but just looking for other options currently so just wondered if anyone had any leads or ones they've used. Thanks

Anyone fancy a 30.7TB SSD. Well Samsung have started manufacturing them. The 16TB model are going for about $10,000. Samsung Newsroom Post According to Samsung This breakthrough was made possible by combining 32 of the new 1TB NAND flash packages, each comprised of 16 stacked layers of 512Gb V-NAND chips. These super-dense 1TB packages allow for approximately 5,700 5-gigabyte (GB), full HD movie files to be stored within a mere 2.5-inch storage device. In addition to the doubled capacity, performance levels have risen significantly and are nearly twice that of Samsung’s previous generation high-capacity SAS SSD. Based on a 12Gb/s SAS interface, the new PM1643 drive features random read and write speeds of up to 400,000 IOPS and 50,000 IOPS, and sequential read and write speeds of up to 2,100MB/s and 1,700 MB/s, respectively. These represent approximately four times the random read performance and three times the sequential read performance of a typical 2.5-inch SATA SSD*. “With our launch of the 30.72TB SSD, we are once again shattering the enterprise storage capacity barrier, and in the process, opening up new horizons for ultra-high capacity storage systems worldwide,” said Jaesoo Han, executive vice president, Memory Sales & Marketing Team at Samsung Electronics. Would you stick 30TB's worth of data on one drive? So, who's got a spare $20,000? iSilverback

Better endurance than Intel's consumer SSDs and the same 10 year warranty as the SanDisk Extreme Pro. Other than price, this looks like the perfect SSD. Reviews: AnandTech, Bit-Tech, Tech Report, Storage Review, The SSD Review, TechSpot, Tom's Hardware

TL;DR. The Corsair Neutron GTX, Samsung 840 Pro and Kingston HyperX 3K are the only drives still going. Link: http://techreport.com/review/26523/the-ssd-endurance-experiment-casualties-on-the-way-to-a-petabyte

Has anyone tried using a kingston SSD in a lenovo E530c 3366-74G? and have you experienced any problems?

It had to happen... my first bricked laptop with an M.2 SSD rather than a 2.5" SATA SSD. Teacher (or, according to them, a pupil) spilled a mug of tea over it and told me days later. Disassembly involved prising the bottom cover off with the standard breakage of some of the small plastic clips, so I'm reluctant to swap the drive into one of the same model laptops - especially as the drive appears to have been for a dunk. I'll probably have to pay for an adapter (I figure there will be usage for it with friends/family as more drives are like this), so the cheaper the better. Drive is a Samsung mznlf128hchp-000h1 which, as far as I can tell, is B+M one (it has two notches) and a 2280 size drive. However there seems to be a load of stuff about PCI-E and NVMe drives. Does anyone know if something like https://www.amazon.co.uk/Neoteck-Aluminum-Enclosure-Converter-Linux-Black/dp/B01LWSPL3E will do the trick?

We are currently in the process of upgrading a ICT suite from HDD's to SSD's and the machines that we have upgraded seem to be giving us issues with getting onto the internet for the users. Whenever a user logs on, they unable to access the internet as it says 'access denied: authentication configuration missing' in Chrome, however when the same user logs off and back on again, the internet seems to work completely fine. It's as if the machines are logging in way too fast and not picking up the right proxy policy for students, hence no internet. We use a proxy server, in which students go out on port 800. We had escalated this issue with Smoothwall, and they pointed the issue down to settings in group policy after investigation. Not entirely sure if its GP as it would affect every machine on site, but rather only affecting the upgraded machines. Also not sure where to check in GPM? Apologies if I've created this thread in the wrong place. Any advice at the moment in time will helpful Thanks, Yusuf

To update your Extreme SSD, either download the (Windows-only) SSD Toolkit below or the relevant bootable ISO from here. SSD Toolkit / Release Notes If you have the SSD installed in a 2008-2009 MacBook or MacBook Pro you should install firmware R211m.

We recently purchased some Dell OptiPlex 7040 PCs, which came with M.2 PCIe SSDs and Windows 7 Professional 64bit pre-installed: http://www.dell.com/uk/business/p/optiplex-7040-desktop/pd However we struck a problem when attempting to build these PCs on our RM CC4.5 network. It turns out that RM do not currently support computers with an NVMe interface as part of their standard build process, in any version of Windows. The only current option available is to use their Smart Client process. This is manageable on a small number of computers, but not the numbers that we have purchased or intend to purchase. RM have advised that they intend on addressing this issue for Windows 10 only. Please see attached RM tech article (TEC5129318): TEC5129318.pdf However we have no intention of using Windows 10 at this point in time, and need a solution for Windows 7. It appears that not many customers (that are still using Windows 7) have informed RM that this would be a problem, so they don't believe that it is worth investing their time and resources in resolving. Could I ask any RM customers out there who are intending on purchasing hardware with PCIe SSDs, and Windows 7, to please contact their RM account manager ASAP. Hopefully RM will start to take this issue more seriously. Many thanks

I have a collection of MAC MINI's 2014s that are getting real slow. No RAM or CPU upgrade available but we can install an SSD to replace the HDD... Can I do this without having to reinstall all the software, accounts, other random bs... A clone would be nice. I have a WD blue SSD that is 500GB (vs the installed 1tb hdd) the WD comes with acronis but it's probably windows only... cheesr help blah..

We are now in a position where were disposing of laptops that have old 64GB SSDs. (Windows 8.1 eats it up) I thought I'd raid 6 drives up in an old gaming PC to see what they could do and I was quite surprised at the half a MVME style performance. (a 335GB drive) This is on a Pentium Anniversary Edition using a Z97 board, using the firmware raid Intel style. speeeed, each drive alone is good for 240MB ish, so this is almost perfect scaling! The PC is peppy as anything I almost want to keep it. Skyrim flashes the loading screen as I reload a level, thats speed.

Hiya, Just looking for some advice if I could please? I want to upgrade the current HDD, running my operating system on my Desktop PC, to an SSD. Now obviously I am looking at this upgrade to speed my PC up ... as running Windows 7 on an IDE drive (yes, I know) rus a bit sluggish. Now my question .... what other factors do I have to think about, if I'm looking at this upgrade from a speed point of view. Is the memory, CPU, etc going to counteract what I am doing, and therefore, me not see a difference? I cant tell you the exact specs of my machine, my memory isn't brilliant, and I'm only 18 ... but this is a rough guess ... : Core2Duo Processor (I'm pretty sure its an E6 model, so lets say its between 2GHz - 3 GHz, 1333MHz RAM (4 GB [3GB Usable 32Bit Operating System] DDR2 PC2-5300 @ 667MHz) Are there any other factors that I will have to think about, and with them specs do you think I will notice a difference in the speed of my operating system. Thanks in advance Tom
