Ban on sale of mercury based lamps (projectors)
3s-gtech replied to SamanthaD's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
We've had central funding to replace projectors with interactive screens. I have heavily utilised this funding! We will only have a handful left after this year, from a peak of 70+. -
Adding USB 2.0 ports to an old Compaq Armada M700 Sure I had a floppy drive somewhere that used it

Have a look at: https://www.rootusers.com/configure-quotas-with-file-server-resource-manager-fsrm/ Ownership was always an important one for this for us - I set students as the Owner of their home folder on creation. It can cause some oddness otherwise (like the local admin or service user of the server owns all of the sub-folders, for instance, so collectively can hit a quota!) Check that the quotas are applied correctly from a template to sub-folders for each user.

We still have a large number in active use. They're starting to die, but as they've done 20 years I think that's fair.

Is sysvol replication working properly across your DCs?

In the voice of Lumiere singing in Beauty and the Beast: D....N....S DNS! Put the (Windows) service to the test! It's a good place to look for quirks here. Refresh and no-refresh intervals, purging, and name resolution to the DCs (check DHCP settings too).

You should cap the top end of the SQL RAM allocation, or it'll start impacting on the host OS if left on for long enough. Shouldn't be a major issue with a 6GB DB and 40GB or RAM, but you can cut that RAM allocation in half and it'll still perform better if capped. Min should be the size of the DB. Is the host server busy? How many threads assigned to the VM?

Injectors tend to just work with whatever switch you're using. You may need to check that the ports don't disable or block with STP or similar. I've not used them on a cable that long before, and I hoofed them all out when we went to PoE sitewide, but they didn't cause me issues.

Huh. This may explain why our Wonde has stopped writing back. Not checked GroupCall.

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/windows-server/active-directory/config-firewall-for-ad-domains-and-trusts We have two remote sites linked, but it's by leased line inside the PSBN so no need for a VPN. Your VPN will need to support all of these, or use AOVPN on the clients which can do it through 80 and 443.

In HTML it's: I don't think you can do that in MS Forms though.

Windows hosted home directories, pulled from AD? Still works as far as I know. What issue are you seeing?

We leave last year's Teams in place, and create new. Up to the teacher if they want to use the last Team (as it's no longer synced, it keeps the pupils in place). Works well with the two year cycle of GCSEs and A-Levels.

That should be there in the main download link (or, you know, have links for Mac and Windows versions that aren’t zips). Someone there is using their elbow to go to the toilet.

Rekordbox have cocked up. Edit: it's extremely obtuse. It may be that you can't download the Mac version on Windows through a browser, so try it on a Mac.

After some advice regarding Vimeo being used by a website.
3s-gtech replied to jmcdermott's topic in Educational Software
We've had this with a site that chose to use Vimeo - they also internally hosted the videos for select customers when requested. We have a clause in our IT policies - if we can't get something to work within the bounds of our security policies we can reject it (10 Ticks was the reason for that one!) -
Problem with that is most contracts require a direct debit which cannot be set up against many school bank accounts. I'm sure there are exceptions - it'd be interesting to know.

@Brimstone. Tone it down, again. Seriously. You’re coming across as a bully. This is a support forum - it’s about helping each other. Not every school prioritises IT funding in the same way. Indeed also, many schools don’t want extensive Apple hardware deployment as the cost to benefit may not be as high as other suppliers. I’m retiring a large number of iPads this summer, and not replacing them. Makes no sense to do so, that money can be better spent elsewhere - for our use case. Some high schools are repeatedly posting deficit budgets year on year - they can keep the lights on, pay the wages - that’s about it.

Also check your LDAP source server is allowing LDAPS (different port, 3269 instead of 636).

So is it the browser that's blocking it? For Edge have a look at: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/deployedge/microsoft-edge-policies#exemptfiletypedownloadwarnings Not certain on this one - but there will be a Group Policy setting for the browser that allows you to download it.

Is it a Smoothwall block page or a Windows one? Both can block RTF files.

I thought that you could still connect to the inbuilt DB using SQL Management Studio - so you could push/pull the DB from there.
-
Very odd. Can you give me your version number? Plus, can you have a look in the log.xml in configfiles and see if you see any issues?
-
Indeed - why are you trying to install a different DB engine?
