  1. It's rare nowadays, but it's possible you need the driver the the RAID on a USB stick so you can point the installer at that. Server 2016, 2019 and 2022. https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=w7x3r&oscode=wst14&productcode=poweredge-t640 https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=p74h3&oscode=ws19l&productcode=poweredge-t640 https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=85r54&oscode=ws22l&productcode=poweredge-t640
  2. We've found that Paxton USB readers scan the last 8 in decimal. I have alternative USB readers which get the full amount in hex form a presented 1k mifare card. That probably accounts for the difference, but our ACUs register the decimal from the card the same as the desktop reader.
  3. Why I'm trying not to swear, I tend to get...creative.
  4. “But think of the firmware vulnerabilities! You’re basically murdering your students by using that!”

    Mac Storage Issue

What version of MacOS? I have certainly seen where particular versions just hoover up disk space with absolutely nothing (where even OmniDiskSweeper can't find what it is) until the disk fills. The only eventual solution was to wipe and reinstall. Fitting bigger disks would only delay the issue.
  6. Why are you setting the core as the gateway, in that case? It’s doing an awful lot of work, which is why the CPU usage is going up.
  7. They’ve now admitted it’s their problem and passed it up the line. Here’s a tip for all first line techs - don’t assume you’re dealing with an idiot or novice. Make that judgment based on the information available - which may be from the moment the user opens their mouth of course. Jumping straight to the old “it can’t be us, must be you” mantra makes you look like a chump when dealing with someone who has a clue what they’re talking about. Patronising me about what Smoothwall is makes me want to drive to your office and give you a ruddy good telling off.
  8. Is tour core switch doing the inter-VLAN routing? Do you have another switch acting as router to a WAN?
  9. It's this: https://www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/comments/1fpuqi0/cant_find_office_2024_kms_client_keys/ I've now put the PIDKEY into the deployment config.xml being the (publicly available) KMS host key: XJ2XN-FW8RK-P4HMP-DKDBV-GCVGB I manually activated the one client with this (OSPP.vbs) and it worked.
  10. Thanks. I have the same version, but Preview remains in the product title. I've checked my configuration for the Deployment Tool, and it's set to ProPlus2024Volume and PerpetualVL2024. I've only got it on one machine so no harm, but I'd rather get it right now.
  11. Just installed Office Pro Plus LTSC 2024 on Windows 11, first copy rolled out. Installs and activates fine (tried it over the top of 2021 to test that too). However, the Product Information screen shows it as Microsoft Office LTSC Professional Plus 2024 Preview. I don't want no darned preview! What version are you seeing when you look at the activation status? If I've somehow grabbed the wrong version with the deployment wizard, I don't want to send it out to hundreds of PCs next year.
  12. I have just pushed this out via MDT. Older ADK, didn't update that (but it was quite recent as I did some work on it to support 14th gen Intel stuff). Lenovo E14 (10th gen Intel). Seems to have worked fine. Nothing fancy in the task sequence, but I don't do capture and deploy - I build from the WIM afresh.
  13. I have no intention of unblocking it. They're as competent as Boris Johnson's government was, and have consistently been at the very bottom of the pile. Our exams officer hasn't got a clue and is starting to get upset that I won't unblock it. She thinks a first-line tech at Pearson must know better.
  14. Still battling with Pearson on this “We don’t use Smoothwall. Smoothwall is a safeguarding device that some schools use.” Yes, that’s correct you absolute drain blockage. Schools also use our eyes to read words, such as “the server’s certificate does not match the domain name” which is in the email sent to you.
  15. Yes, one of ours has done this after a power cut. No beep. I haven't delved as the install is still under warranty.

    Fibre Cards

You don't need HP transceivers at each end. The transceiving they do conforms to standards so the optical signal will be universal, it's the actual card and/or switch that have firmware check to lock out generic SFPs, which is cruddy.
  17. You're right, that is thorny. As soon as a student is named - "Kylie-Mae is being horrendous today!", in a school-centric channel it gets difficult. This should be covered with policy. Ours:
  18. Not an official school channel/policy to use it = personal communication, and won’t be covered by the SAR. You need to be very careful with this though. If Whatsapp is normalised as a method of communication between staff, you’re on thin ice by not covering it. Even just using pupil initials isn’t going to fully cover this. If a message about a pupil just said “Behaviour incident - see email” you’re better off.
  19. That was the option B I posted. Problem with that is...it's ridiculous, as their product may be the best fit for the need. If they were somehow eliminated before the tender process had started, simply on a proper assessment without involving them at all, that may be possible but seems unlikely.
  20. The software is awful and bugged. Kill it if you can.
  21. Ours usually want a PDF editor so they can either nick a policy document from another school, or to edit a policy document of their own when they can’t find the Word original! I have a couple of old copies of Acrobat Pro kicking around for it.
  22. Do these legal cases basically show that the best way to not get sued by Bromcom is to either acquiesce and award them the contract whether that’s right or wrong, or to simply not consider their product at all in the first place, thereby not involving them in the contract tender? Or plan C - follow due diligence extremely carefully, transparently and fairly so they don’t have a leg to stand on if/when they sue? Serious question. Their solicitors seem to be able to pick the processes apart easily so it would be worth sharing what’s gone wrong.
  23. You've found the MDF and LDF. 50GB is way too big. Re-index and adjust the logging, amongst other things. You need more RAM than DB size ideally, and you can't just keep allocating RAM.
  24. Microsoft, so new doesn't always mean good. Or, you know, legal (especially under FOIA).
  25. How big is your DB? You want it to fit entirely in RAM ideally, to reduce swapping. You can then limit SQL usage around those size boundaries (minimum above the DB size, max should leave 4-8GB for the OS alone), allowing for some expansion and knowing you'll need to run the re-index patch occasionally.
