  1. Eeep. Saw this on a 245 (I think) yesterday, my 955 hasn’t been hit thankfully, and Garmin say that the issues are resolved (in the Connect app). Many runners are absolutely dependant on their so Garmin need to ensure this is fixed for community goodwill.
  2. AC2 (or iTunes) downloads the update itself, so doesn't hoover up space before the update. It's a faff but may be the only way on the older/smaller ones now.
  3. Cert is from the NPS, in our case that’s a DC just to confuse matters.
  4. There was some odd crossover and lack of standardisation at the time with PSUs on ATX boards, at least from some vendors. HP liked to dabble with this too. What’s the model number of the PC? You may be able to swap everything across to another identical one from Ebay. Back up the HDD, whatever you do. XP will tolerate and change of motherboard, but not to the extent 7 onwards would - changing from AMD to Intel and vice versa seemed to be a limitation, as did single to multi-core CPU. Can you get a photo of the motherboard power connector(s)?
  5. Since some firewall changes today, the only things our on prem does is: Gives me the GUI for managing mailboxes and groups Allows FSRM to send emails I’ve already moved all DNS stuff so mail never hits it, and it can’t be resolved externally so it’s a bit more protected. I like the GUI but it’s not a good reason to keep this thing.
  6. Windows 10 has been deeply stable for us (I take a cautious approach with servers and being at the cutting edge). 7 was good, 10 has been rock solid. A big part of that over the two OSs has been not having any HDDs though - poxy things.
  7. What are the host names of the printers that it’s changing cross to? Have you got the DNS server settings correctly configured when you switch it to static? Can you move those printers to a different IP to see what happens?
  8. Don't bother with anything other than 24H2 if you're starting fresh now. It's okay, mature enough, and you will have a longer support window. WDS/MDT just worked for me, from a build from 2022. Update as necessary, but it tends to work. Office 2024 if you won't miss Publisher, otherwise 2021. Yes, you'll want to remove apps. Do it post install in the TS, or via GP.
  9. Windows 8 would run adequately on a piece of cheese. Not even good cheese. 7 had already slapped a load of old kit out of use because it had been so long since XP, things moved on massively. I think the oldest thing I got running on 7 was a P4 laptop, where XP would run on some P1 stuff.
  10. I have seen this in the past where machines were in-place upgraded and any existing profiles broke. Removing the profiles then worked fine.
  11. I have been shifting serious quantities of old kit out over the last few years, but we have so many PCs that we won't have replaced them all by the cutoff. Windows 11 was a good reason to finally EoL stuff that's ancient - we've found that many web apps like Teams and OnShape won't even happily run on some of the old suites now, so their time has come. It's only the same sort of stunt Apple have played for years, and I'm busy retiring old iMacs too.
  12. Are these DHCP clients? If so, is scavenging turned on?
  13. I think Salamander needs the Exchange install to work though, from what I can see. I have an install on our SIMS TPC for this reason - though it's just the toolset, it is technically an Exchange 2016 install just without the service.
  14. What Microsoft would rather, often isn't what's best! Still got to be in support, of course, but that's one scenario where it might be on a server. I also have a copy on our SIMS third party connector for doing data extracts/reports.

  16. RDS. Though your RDS hosts should be treated as disposable and should be up to date like your desktops, so not really an issue.
  17. Limited company - usually, liability ends when the company ends. There are some exceptions, and criminality is one of them, but builders have been doing this for years.
  18. The problem with many innovations in building is that they have not been done for efficiency, to improve construction quality or durability, or for thermal efficiency. They have been done to maximise profit. Flat rooves are a pet peeve - architects love them, and they're cheaper to make. Nightmare in a wet country.
  19. The owner of CM will have done very well out of it all, in typical bust building firm style, with absolutely zero accountability. The dodgy building firm plan: 1. Create a building firm. 2. Gain contracts through backhands, dodgy deals and undercutting. Shiny Range Rover on finance for making a good impression. 3. Build something utterly shoddy but looks okay. Note - make it flat roofed with a set of major design flaws. 4. Pull all of the capital out of the firm and make it go bust. Pay the tax bill as that's the only one they can go after you personally for. 5. Profit. 6. Start new firm with very similar name. Repeat.
  20. All the best. May 2025 instil your users with more common sense, you with more patience, and IT vendors with more quality control.
  21. More encouraging that SansDisk though…

  23. That’s a huge feast! 😉 Lovely to get the family together though, enjoy!
  24. They need less than you may think, I tend to go with about 4GB but my hosts have usually got a bit more than that spare.
  25. There’s just so few using 2025 on DCs yet, we’re probably not much help. Years of experience have made many of us cautious at jumping into new OSs, especially on core boxes.
