  1. Just watched Dead Reckoning, looking forward to this.
  2. I'd have thought that the contract with MS is pretty strong on that one, in terms of restoration and delivery of service. Still, huge potential for disruption. Some muddiness in terms of separation. I believe that there are 'tenants' within Hwb despite it being one wider tenancy - this covers the DPA stuff, FOI and also management. Sub-tenancies based on our MIS data.

    Tron: Ares

More Tron. C’est bon. Needs more Jeff Bridges.
  4. Yup, we're seeing it on Windows 11 as I migrate staff laptops over. Annoying, but easily fixed. That is, if staff can remember which TWO WHOLE KEYS they need to press.
  5. I heard that ISS had sky-high running costs 😘 IIS can do it, with add-ons etc. You can also do auth linked to their accounts. Bit unwieldy though!
  6. I know about this, but we haven't been officially told yet. I heard mention of 2.5 years (so September 2027). I intend to leave before then (giving enough notice to not screw them). Mostly, because I just can't face the job and all of the headaches, stress, compromises, restructuring and potentially loss of flexibility it'll bring. Someone else can implement it, that has the enthusiasm for it. I don't, after this long.
  7. Yes, using more powerful defrag utilities like Defraggler (lots of other good options available too). Then a restart. Had a pretty good hitrate with that, back when I did this!
  8. Lenovo equivalent is probably the E14. Both AMD and Intel. We have a mix of both, all been good so far.
  9. 1100 users: 593,876 pages printed. This doesn't include any copying, that's just prints.
  10. What actual issues are you seeing with .NET? It's not uncommon for this 'mismatch', for it to be running an up-to-date version. What's the latest update installed via WU?
  11. Right, just hit (and maybe solved) another one today. You know that proxy settings file? It only seems to use it for the update check. The actual software? No, that uses system proxy settings, so we have to allow internet access on the exams accounts. Without this, I was getting 403 errors as our proxy can't be bypassed and isn't transparent. I know the cretins that wrote this rubbish software can't read this, but how do you not die in the night by forgetting to breathe?
  12. The eDiscovery issue shouldn't affect email etc.
  13. Don't knock it. Ransomware attack? NMFP mate. Turn up, graft, go home. That said, I am very sympathetic to the unease that comes from this sword hanging over any school. I've seen the fallout from poor Estyn inspections doing this too. Good luck to all of you. Keep positive, and remember that you can use it as a pivot outside of the stress, moither and barebones wages of school IT.
  14. Haha, our LA would have to actually somehow take on responsibility of high school ICT for that to happen! They have pretty minimal intervention at present, though they do control the DNS... 😮 😮 😮
  15. Fight the power! I'm happily renewing my MS licensing again this year. Hwb can do one.
  16. DL580 is not built for flight. I suspect trying to throw one would mostly lead to a slipped disc.
  17. I used to be an Ooh. Now I'm a peasant again. On the plus side, it's like I was the back at the age when I joined the forum, so I can pretend to be twenty something again...
  18. CA online and working? You may need to do the request manually if it's not working straight through certlm. https://community.spiceworks.com/t/need-help-reissuing-server-certs-with-internal-ca/942529/11 If you're past the renewal grace period you may need to just request a new cert from your CA.
  19. Hmmm. Where it all falls down (with some experience in the game) is the unknown. Your £1500 car is a known quantity - it is unlikely to catastropically fail because you have looked after it as the owner and wish it to keep on working, so it's serviced, cleaned, and maintained. In a year, it'll probably MoT again, maybe costing a bit more to do. Worst case, you sell it as spares/repairs on Facebook for £4-500 (£50 scrap value has been avoidable for a while). The unknown £3000 car you bought from a shady dealer or someone looking to offload it? It's end of life with a hokey MoT. In a year it fails - or the engine blows up en-route to that. Net amount lost is far greater. To add insult to injury, you see your old car you sold for £1500 bumbling around the local area for years afterwards.
  20. The device certs only last so long, then have to be renewed. Mine are yearly. Here's my guide: Getting IKEv2 certificate errors, so clients can't connect? This is the renewal process for AoVPN certs and needs to be done yearly. The AoVPN server itself does not auto-renew its certificate - certname.domain. This is issued by the CA, which is good enough for this purpose as it doesn't need a valid chain. On the AoVPN server, open certlm from a run dialog. This should open the Local Computer store. Navigate to Personal/Certificates. Right click on certname.domain, select All Tasks and choose Request Certificate with New Key or Advanced Operations --> Request New Certificate with the same key. Go through the wizard, and for the additional info needed select the (Subject name:) Common name as certname.domain and the (Alternate name:) DNS as certname.domain, click on Add to select these. Complete the wizard with Enroll. Delete the old cert (keep a copy if you want). In RRAS console, right-click on the server name and click Properties. Select Security tab and under SSL Certificate Binding select the new certname.domain cert in the list. Restart the RRAS server through the RRAS console. Clients should now be able to connect.
  21. Absolutely not in any way. That rabbit hole leads to doom. I'm not paid half of enough to deal with that!
  22. The economics of that don't work. It's worth £1500 with a year's MoT, but replacing it will cost more than the loss in value if it fails the next one. Bangernomics always favours running the car into the ground (until the cost of repair for the MoT exceeds the value of the vehicle).
  23. I don't think creating a matching AD group will work - its object ID will differ and it'll show as a different type. Can you create the AD one, populate it, wait for it to sync, then retire the cloud one? You'll have to wait for it to free up the address.
