There is great international outcry at countries like Syria using their army to suppress rioting; how would the headlines look if we were to resort to the same. My late father-in-law (ex soldier) said the problem with using the army on the streets is they are trained to defeat their enemy using all means possible, including incapacitating & killing people. He argued that Northern Ireland was a case in point; soldiers fighting civilians with one arm tied behind their backs. Also, the terrorists were keen to describe themselves as an 'army' until the british army took them on as an 'army' & started killing them....

 

The situation in London & other cities is being caused by a relatively small number of people with an agenda..... theft, criminal damage, hatred of the police & the establishment amongst others. They are not freedom fighters, or soldiers, they are criminals & should be dealt with by the police.

It's the BIG SOCIETY at work.... people helping themselves..... it's what Cameron wished for as part of his programme of cuts to public services. People should be careful what they wish for......

Actually we were taught to police "European and Western world" streets as part of a NATO initiative (as are most NATO Armies), and the training was top notch - Riot control, maintain order, provide emergency services, and general policing (alongside local police complying with local laws).

 

The training is good, but for dealing with rioters the only folk I would trust are RMP and Marine Police ... for providing assistance to civil authorities (traffic control, supporting Fire and Ambulance services) then yes ... definitely a good use. It is like everything else, use the appropriate tool for the appropriate task.

The riots in other countries about being free? wanting to be no longer under a dictator? protesting against the government?

 

Last I checked this was an organised Yob Launch to Loot and nothing more, to keep the Cops so busy that they can do what they want and how they want. Big difference really, the yobs are starting this war not people who are protesting. In other countries people are being forced to silence their anger when they simple want to protest, where as here they are physically threatening people, breaking in to shops, threatening peoples lives and lively hood and not actually protesting anything. One video on the mail had a girl say "We getting our taxes back init"....... yeah very big difference from some one who probably never worked.

 

Big difference from some one sticking "No Cuts" on their shirt to some one wearing a hoody threatening a kid for his IPhone.

I remember chatting with a mate from Toxteth, telling me about when he was younger ... they had quite a lot of outsiders coming in and causing problems all those years ago. They knew this because the graffiti was spelt properly.

At no point am I saying let's shoot to kill a 14 year old regardless of what they may have done...........

 

All I would say is, if they had the army standing in front of them, with army vehicles surrounding them or the MET with a shield in hand, with squad cars surrounding them (which is obviously having no impact so far) - which one do you think these idiots take more notice of??

 

The army seem to be fine at filling in for the fire service when they are on strike and how much fire training do you think they actually have!

 

........I suspect they may well be filling in for teachers next time they decide to strike ha ha!

 

I will give it a few days before a curfew is firmly in place. Watch this space........

My old girl's a copper in Leicestershire, she's been told all holiday is cancelled and everybody on rest days aren't allowed to drink or leave the area... it's getting worse I'd assumed it would have blown itself out by now

I'm not sure where I stand on replying the army.. On the one hand it's more bodies and a force trained to fight.

 

However their training is different with a different objective in mind and it starts on a slippery slope towards the government enforcing things with the military and may lead to an escalation of the issue.

I'm guessing the "white man" hasn't listened to the "black youth" and this is what the "black youth" have done to make sure the "white man" listens

I don't know, are this mythical cohesive group known as the 'black youth' who are obviously unanimous in their desire actually saying anything other than that they want to be listened to?

 

I'm just really hoping that this doesn't cause other flare ups. It's got the potential to get really nasty if some of the more despicable groups get in on the act, even more so as I suspect people will have a disturbing amount of sympathy with savage vigilante actions.
