Just out of interest, had Gordon Brown been in power and said the same words, would you have said

Nope - Cameron has had it easy in his life - everything has been delivered for him on a silver plate, he has never had to work hard, he's married a nice rich lady and he is more out of touch than the Royal Family. The Tories have created a society where vastly overpaid footballers, models, and MPs can flaunt their wealth and behave in any manner they see fit, and are still treated as near gods by the media. The youth these days expect instant fame and wealth, and instead they get unemployment, poverty, and no future. And we all act surprised when they revolt. It was the same in the 80's during the recession and it's the same now. You don't need to go to Eton to work that one out.

Yep, its a society of people feeling entitled to everything. I grew up knowing that if I want something, I have to work hard and I can earn enough to get it. Kids now don't, we've got credit cards for that, or the government will give them welfare cheques to keep them happy.

 

As soon as the government says enough is enough, BAM, they through their toys out of the pram.

It's the BIG SOCIETY at work.... people helping themselves..... it's what Cameron wished for as part of his programme of cuts to public services. People should be careful what they wish for......

So if Labour had been in power, and this guy had been shot, there would be no riots?

These riots would happen regardless of who was in power, it goes far beyond which political party is in charge at the moment. And I'm sorry, to say that these people are doing this because they expect fame and wealth and get poverty and no future?

I grew up in hackney in the 80's, so should I be down there taking a new plasma screen for myself because I grew up in a single parent household with very little money?

People are now living in an age where a £2 lottery ticket could give you countless millions, should we all go out and rape and pillage because the promise of that doesn't always happen?

 

There were reports of some scattered violence in Nottingham last night too. Cars set alight and the main shopping centre attempted to break in. These are people in an area that has had a massive amount of government money put in to rejuvinate the area. These are not impoverished young children trying to smash and grab, they are opportunistic thugs who think that anarchy means you get a new laptop if you put the window through in Comet

Erm, this has been going on for years. I don't think the media has ever treated an MP like a god for flaunting their wealth.

And did you grow up under a tory or labour govt.? And which govt. did these dole wallers grow up under? I'm the same, I work for my money - I believe we are around the same age so I know the answers to those questions btw

 

 

To blame the upbringing of the current youth on a govt. which has been in power for less than a year is a wee bit silly I think you'd agree.

Boy do I love being a 21 year old with a few brain cells to rub together - although I do have the Cubs, Scouts and the Air Cadets to thank for a well-founded sense of community and what is the right thing to do.

Now are more organisations like that going to help? To be honest I don't think so as the kinds of people who appear to be causing all of these problems have no interest in youth organisations like that.

 

That then leaves it down to good parenting and the schools to install a sense of what is British – only thing is the parents are just part of the same vicious circle and the schools are well out of their depth when it comes to these kinds of things.

 

I’m now a member of the RAF volunteer reserves and are more than saddened to see how this can happen in ENGLAND….by that I mean this isn’t Syria and this isn’t Egypt but for some strange reason in our western civilised world some parts of the population still feel that they can tear up out capital city!

Absolutely ridiculous. How long before the army arrive - shame we aren't in Northern Ireland, they would be there by now.

Not targeting your point directly (bit more general and sweeping but hey!).

 

The police are there to protect the people and keep the law and order - they are trained to handle complex situations on the streets of the UK.

The Army/Military are there to protect the nation from other nations through the deployment of weapons - they are trained to handle complex situations on the streets of other nations. Indeed if you are a detachment of 30 men and you have a large force coming towards you your next move is to lay down as much fire as possible and reach for the RAF to rain down an air strike.

 

So although the Army wouldn't go in with weapons they would go in with the wrong training/experience for the situation.

 

I'm sure many members of the military would like to help - after all they feel a strong enough link to the country to fight for it but that doesn’t mean they signed up to start policing the streets.
