So very warm! Summer 2023

So who else is melting already today? I'm in the office at home with a fan on me and desperately trying to get my work done before midday, at which point I plan to melt!

I have to admit though, we had here, in my part of Lancashire, a few thunderstorms and a nice downpour (at about 5am Sunday) so far, but that just ads to the humidity later on.

It got to 30 yesteray, and is going to be the same for at least the next week or so. I do best in snow and ice!

We are a little cooler down here in Somerset. I think we had a heavy downpour before 3:00 am (that's when I got up) 5Foot2 has grown some plants in the raised beds I made for her, and some of the bean stalks look like they have suffered a little since I saw them last.

 

No thunder or lightning yet, though it was threatened/promised for us yesterday and today.

Had a text from the ptb that we can wear "weather appropriate clothing". Shorts it is then (along with the company shirt).

Thunder about 6pm but no rain or lightning; friends 10 minutes away had the whole lot including electric flickering on/off.

We didn't get any thunder or rain in Leeds yesterday, despite the forecast. It clouded over about 6pm for an hour but thats all.

 

It's 24C in my office at the moment. I have a couple of strategically placed case fans blowing on me to make it bearable, but if it gets much hotter I'll also be melting.

 

I'm hoping to get the air con moved from the room next door into mine based on the fact the server is in here.

 

I like the 3D thermal graph that HP iLO produces - it looks suitably scientific to help support my case for air con!

Good luck with that! It took me more than 5 years to get air conditioning for the server room. I never did get it for my office, thought the Business Manager, the admin office, and the finance office were allowed to get air conditioning (for some reason?...)

Having a look around, it's very rare that we here in the NW are warmer than other UK locations, but we certainly are going to be for the next week or so!

I recall that back in the day, the server room WAS the IT office, and had aircon. May explain why my hearing is shot now!

A little over a week ago, Mrs_C and I were cold in the house (warmer outside), thinking "is it ever going to warm up?". That's all gone now...

Decided to break out the shorts and T shirt at the weekend. Was actually slightly chilly on Saturday and cracked Sunday lunchtime and changed, though I did have to change back after some activity. I have been sleeping on top of the covers, but this is mainly due to a cat who loves snuggling up. Only had the back door open for the cat, as it's not been too warm in the house (though Friday night's washing was almost dry Saturday morning).

 

At work, I've yet to need to open doors/use the fan at my main site - though I have taken my jacket off. Suspect that a fan will be needed where I am this afternoon and tomorrow.

 

I do prefer it warm, though.

Window open and a fan right in front of the window. Still not the best night, don't like the heat too hot. Kitchen window I've jus put a fly net on, could do with one for the bedroom Window but I also have an annoying flat neighbors dog to deal with that jus barks and barks even when the neighbor is home and in the back garden. I don't mind dogs barking when someone enters the flat but this thing is excessive at times

It's always incredibly hot in the office, not necessarily because of IT equipment but just because this room traps heat so well and has south-facing windows. To make matters worse, we have to wear smart trousers and shirts for our uniform, and we're almost never able to wear shorts. The one time we've ever been dispensation to do so was in the 40-degree heatwave last year... We've been moving a delivery of new PCs from its temporary storage room to a more permanent one this morning, too.

 

Can't wait to get home and have a cold shower! I can't bear 30+ degree heat (in the UK, at least)...

Not so bad here today after a blisteringly hot weekend. Hoping we hang on to the mid 20s most of this week and I get some sleep again.

Recent years, it feels like the UK doesn't do moderate summer temps anymore, it's either slightly chilly and overcast (which TBH I don't mind) or hot enough to scour all life from the face of the planet.

 

*You might be able to tell that I don't like the hot weather. Only 80 days to September...

Luckily, never had to wear tie in EDU. Still "smart business", but as even the male teachers rarely seem to bother, I'm pushing the boundaries slowly. I did use to quite often voluntarily wear a tie but the few times I've done so of late (weddings/funerals), I've found them incredible constricting.

Maybe, but the couple of times I've forgotten a tie in the winter (and thus had top shirt button undone) my neck has felt noticeably colder.
