I guess my naked rain dance around the garden at 1 a.m. this morning worked sorry (not sorry)!!!

 

 

Then I blame you for my drive through Dunstable this morning where many areas of the town were under 6+ inches of water!

I couldn't demist my car this morning, even with the blowers on full and windows down a crack. It was raining quite a bit, so I couldn't open the windows more without getting drenched. I had to pull over a couple of times as visibility was getting bad!

All my garden furniture, water butts, outside storage, shed... in fact almost every surface was absolutely covered in a blanket of them!

We were promised the hottes summer in past few years, but so far it's only +18 at my place, yesterday it was even +12 only. It is not a usual weather in my region. We had a few heat waves (+27) during June, but only for couple of days and then cool weather comes back.

I am a summer person. I want to wear skirts and dresses lol

I hate getting dressed in summer, I like to spend weekends ouside the city, at the beach or going camping. Hope July and August will be better.

My 5 years old daughter doesn't understand why she should wear a light hat and a jacket in summer

Yep. It was about 8-10 inches deep under there this morning.

I had one of the worst nights of my life Wednesday/Thursday, I am terrified of moths and arthropods in general, anyway my window was open at about midnight it was so hot. I turned on my bedroom light in order to tidy up some things, then I hear a ruffling noise. A big moth had flown in, but then I saw a 2nd one fly in, in the space of 5 minutes over 10 massive moths had come in and were flying about anywhere. I was in the corner of my room and the door was shut and there was a big one on it, so I was afraid to go near it and was waiting for it to move. Then when the others flew in a few of them took to dive bombing me flying right at me, in my hair, I've never been frozen in terror before but man it was awful.

Yes it's kind of pathetic to be scared of harmless moths but they just look unnatural to me. Horrible.

 

Anyway I got out, got some RAID, sprayed it and had to wait for them to slowly die then I could rip all my furniture apart getting each one out one by one. I was stood in my room while the gas took hold and my room sounded alive with just flapping and buzzing sounds it was a nightmare. Took me until almost 3am to kill them all and to ensure there wasn't one left somewhere.

Anyway I can no longer open my window so I have a little USB fan but it doesn't do much, I hope this summer isn't going to be as stuffy as last year but already it's almost gotten there and we're not even in july yet.

 

Where those moths came from so quick, it must be the tree outside, does Elon Musk still sell that flamethrower thing?

Mme LeMarchand was bed bound over summer a couple of years ago and I put up something like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mosquito-Self-Adhesive-Universal-Transparent-Drilling/dp/B089VVK88M Loads of different types/colours/fixings available, so look around a bit. Lasted all summer, and I've replaced selective bits of the tape until recently when I did a proper job of it. Should keep stuff out (ours was also to keep the cat in) though you'd still hear the noise.

Reminds me of the evening a stag beetle got into my room! Windows wide open, first thing I heard of it was the flapping about, I thought it was a bat as I'd never seen a stag beetle before (or after this encounter!)

 

Remember John Candy in the film the Great Outdoors? Yeah, that was me getting that stag beetle back out...

I'm not scared of anything we have here in the U.K., but I understand phobias in general and know that you can't help the reaction you have to things sometimes, so you have my sympathy. Even I cringed a bit when a friend who had been to Borneo said that at night a big beetle had found it's way into their room and they could actually hear it's footsteps on the tiled floor...

 

I genuinely would seriously consider getting yourself some professional help though (aversion therapy? Easier said than done, I know) as being scared of things like falling off a building, or snakes etc. is unlikely to impact you greatly in general everyday life, moths on the other hand as you found out can be quite prolific in certain conditions...

 

Lately I've been working on my music late into the night on the OH's work station (which is downstairs in the living room) with 2 big monitors. It has patio doors which in the heat I've left wide open and although we have one of those dangling type fly curtains the moths seem to be impervious to it (or they might not see it in the dark as they are so drawn to the light inside the room). I am regularly distracted by them fluttering around or dive bombing the monitors. The trouble is one of our dogs is quite the insect hunter (as I found out when she brought a big beetle in from the garden yesterday) so I have to flap about in the middle of the night trying to catch them before she does because she bounces around the room knocking everything over and then eats it!

If you're trying to keep bugs out, maybe look into net curtains or I've seen some pretty neat magnetic bug screens on amazon.

As I keep my windows open a lot at night anyway (especially in summer) I keep an old pringles can handy for capture-release (through the bathroom window on the other side of the house).

Bought one of those fly screens last year, got round to fitting a few weeks back to stop the pesky wasps and flys coming in. Got a small section of netting left but not enough fixings to secure it without getting creative. The one I bought has magnetic strips which stick to the frame then the netting has strips to hold it to the magnets. So when I close the window I jus have too pull the bottom off the magnetic strips so the handle doe not foul on the netting.

Yeah I'll definitely get some netting up. Don't think I can handle aversion therapy just yet the thought of those spooky eyes and that wriggling body holy hell ! It's cooling down a bit though so that's some relief. I knew the weather would get very wet and miserable this week, because this week is when we have our Sports Day and without fail it always rains on our sports day!

You have my sympathy, I am the same with arachnids. We have mesh screens in windows and conkers in corners, but they still turn up.

 

Today, after rain, I had huge difficulty walking along a path that was covered with tiny hopping frogs about 1cm long. There were so many I was worried about stepping on them.

As the weather has cooled somewhat we had the email from on high to say that we are back in uniform from here on in and no more shorts and trainers. Oh well, it was nice while it lasted.

We never had a shorts/trainers exception made for the heat, but thankfully the end of term is in just over a week's time and then we'll start the summer break where we can be quite casual anyway. And no teaching staff or students. Yippee!
