As cunning as a fox who's just been appointed Professor of Cunning at Oxford University

 

JN's farm and Oxford obviously have those nasty foxes. Crafty foxes are far more into cross-stitch, knitting and macramé.

Quite a few switches threw a fit with the storm. They're protected to a degree by UPSs, but when stacked and with a firmware update pending, they often fail to come back as a pair.

 

Fixed with a reboot.

 

Mega hot here again now!

Car is showing 28C currently. It’s much less humid than yesterday and there is some wind making it quite pleasant.

 

Thunderstorms yesterday evening bypassed us about 10 miles to the north

It seems that the heat may have ******up our lift. It has an encoder to tell it where it is, and proper switches at each floor level. The current hypothesis is that the tape for the encoder has stretched, and it is getting conflicting signals. Not the first time we've had problems, but it has always worked when "the man" is here. Today, it stayed broken for him to see. He can't fix it; and has escalated...

We have an electronic one with a remote sensor, so I can tell when it's time to close all the doors and windows. I have to keep moving it around the garden at the moment until I can find a spot that's in the shade all day, not in the breeze and won't get soaked in the rain (although it's supposed to be waterproof).

Not that they want it to be 10°...

 

I would agree, I am happiest to be in the same range as my servers low to mid 20°s. Actually it's getting rather warm in my office, so I think there might be some server related duties on the horizon, (the only place I can legitimately spend time where there is aircon)...

That's how I took it but 18°C is the minimum temp for "waking hours" on our heating. It used to be 21°C if we wanted to feel "cosy" rather than "comfortable" but thanks to profiteering...

You joke (I presume), but for years we had blue stain on the wall of the conservatory where the thermometer did blow up.

Ah I see, I'm OK at 18°C that's the minimum in our house (much to the OH's chagrin) and that is only due to damp/condensation issues, before that it was OFF overnight and during most of the daytime (even for most of the Winter). Her argument being that is what you set AC at if you want it cool!

 

I am the hot one and she is always cold, I think she'd be happier in an old person's house with the heating on 24/7/365.... or to live in warmer climes and when we argue about the heating I've often offered to pack her bags...

 

Even the other night whilst sitting watching TV she reached for a blanket (mentioning she felt 'a little chilly'), meanwhile I am sitting on the sofa gently perspiring.

As Mme LeMarchand hails from colder climes (The Midlands), I'm normally the one who feels the cold. Recently, though, it's been me at night (sandwiched between her and the cat) and I've been warm on the sofa while she's wanted the blanket.

Many years ago now, I had a lab assignment to be completed where precise temperature measurements were a factor in the experiment.

 

To allow the recording of the temperature to the required precision, I had to use a Beckmann mercury thread thermometer. These measure temperatures over a small range, are adjustable, and can be very large. The one I was using was almost three feet long. You wouldn't want to be used for taking your temperature - at either end!

The Doctor ain't getting very far with that fur coat in today's 30-degree heat.

Neither is an incognito dalek.

 

Weather: It's REALLY humid now, having clouded over. But there is no rain in the forecast, so that's a nice, sticky night ahead, then.

It must be hot. Mrs. SH has taken the blanket off her side of the bed. We have a hosepipe ban so watering the garden by watering can takes ages but does bump up my daily steps! Also chasing the squirrels away from the bird feeder.

I think I'll have to put out some water for the birds on my birdtable this morning. It was 29 degrees in my home office yesterday at 5pm, and even though it is forcast to be slightly cooler (26 degrees) today I suspect it'll be higher, especially as it's over that in the house right now!

Weirdly been fine in the heat. Sweaty session at bjj on Monday night and I'm training for a 10k road race next month so I ran last night (6PM) and managed average pace of 8:12 min/per mile so pretty happy with that in the heat.

 

Worst part is sitting around in shirt and tie in stuffy offices.
