Hi all, We have had some students discover that they can book appointments with each other on Google Calendar. This has led to them spamming email invitations to meetings/appointments to other students. We have already set up an email quarantine so that these emails don't make it to the students' inboxes, but I'd prefer to deal with the root cause itself. I've been unable to find any settings in Google Admin that blocks "Booking pages" on Google Calendar. The setting for "Internal sharing options for primary calendars" is already turned off in Apps > Calendar > Sharing settings, but this doesn't appear to affect this. It looks like anything to do with appointment settings, sharing and availability is all handled individually on the account. We've also found out that while they are unable to view other students' calendars, they are able to "Schedule 1:1" from the contact card in anything Google: Doing a quick Google search, Google's answer to this issue is to disable Calendar outright for students in Google Admin, which is certainly not the solution I was looking for, especially since I know that some students use Google Calendar to view their timetable. There doesn't even seem to be an option to stop users from creating events in Calendar. Has anyone else experienced this and can anyone point me in the right direction please? Am I just being stupid? With the announcement of Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, I had a craving to play a Star Wars game... Knights of the Old Republic is an incredible game but I think it might require some setup and modding to get that working on Windows 11 the way I want it to, so I've jumped back into Jedi Survivor for the third (I think?) time. I love the combat in that game.

Battlefield 6 has been taking up a lot of my gaming time lately, but whenever my friends aren't playing or are offline, I've been playing Powerwash Simulator 2. It's quite a nice, relaxing change of pace compared to Battlefield! This weekend, I started a new save in Stardew Valley. I've not played it for years and it has had several updates since then, and I've been watching someone livestream it recently, which spurred me on to give it a go. It really has hooked me - I think I've got further in this new save than I did in either of my older saves.

Have you checked your print spool folder? It can be found below: C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS We used to clear this folder out at the end or beginning of each half-term, otherwise the C drive would fill to the point where no-one could print anymore.

Not necessarily Visio, but I've had trouble getting to the Microsoft Admin Centre today and I've been getting a similar "Something went wrong" page. I wonder if there are just some odd issues with Microsoft services today?

We were notified of this on Friday, to which we said "What outage?". We haven't had any reported issues from our staff since this incident has been reported by Arbor. I hope everyone else isn't affected!

Just finished up the story of Horizon: Forbidden West on PC. It's the second in the series and while the story itself may not be as memorable as Horizon: Zero Dawn, it's still very good and it's a really cool open world to explore with good gameplay additions from the first game. I've got the Burning Shores DLC to complete now, although Jump Space early access is out today and my mates and I are going to dive into that.

A slight update to this thread - The MITM issue is resolved, I think I cleared cached certificates in Guardian > HTTPS Inspection > Settings. We've moved to the new S9 box as mentioned in the original post, although this hasn't resolved the lockup/reboot issues with Smoothwall. After 40 emails back and forth, we've been told this morning that it's a known issue with Maiden and the dev team is working on it. Unfortunately, since we've moved to the new box, we can no longer go back to the Leeds restore point we made before we originally updated to Maiden, so we're stuck with it now. Lockups and restarts have been getting more frequent - It was once every two weeks, then once a week, and now it feels like it's almost daily. If anyone reading this is still on Leeds and is thinking about updating to Maiden in the summer, my advice would be don't!

Hi all, I can't work out if I'm missing something obvious or not, hoping that someone else may have an answer... We've just migrated from an older generation S9 box to a newer generation S9 box in the hopes that it doesn't lock up every few weeks - Apparently the older box was showing temperatures of 80 degrees plus! The new box is in as of yesterday afternoon, but we've been having the odd certificate issue since on BYOD devices and logging into the HTTPS admin UI. The root CA certificate we generated last summer is still valid, as is all the certs underneath it. Smoothwall support mentioned something about exporting the certificates, but then I'm not sure what I'm doing with it after that. I've tried re-importing them back into Smoothwall, which appears to be successful, but that hasn't solved the issue. I have created a new certificate under the root CA and assigned those as the Admin UI and User-facing HTTPS services certs in the User Interface section, and while this appears to have got rid of constant insecure connection warnings when navigating through the admin panel, Chrome suggests that it is still not secure at one end of the address bar. In my very limited testing on a mobile phone and a laptop, it looks like the BYOD MITM certificate is not working on the phone, but it's fine on the Windows laptop. People using their pre-configured BYOD devices have also mentioned that they're getting the insecure connection warnings. I feel like such an idiot when it comes to certificates - Is there a way I can fix this without having to completely re-create the root CA and starting again with all the staff and students' BYOD devices?

We use Trelson Assessment for our exams. It is, of course, licenced and paid for, but it works really well with Chromebooks in kiosk mode as it completely locks out any other functionality on the Chromebook. They also have a Safe Exam Browser for Windows and MacOS, a Browser Lockdown Extension for ChromeOS, an iPad app and a less secure web browser mode. It does require the device to be connected to the internet, however.

Ooh, I've missed this thread! Elite Dangerous was, prior to release and for years after, the only game I would play - I might play it for about a week every few months now. They've been really going for it with new content in its 11th year and it's really encouraging to see. I'm not so bothered about the recent Colonisation update, but there are some more new features planned this year and I'll check those out when they release. My mates and I played The Headliners a lot over the weekend. It's a cool concept but I personally feel the gameplay loop isn't that deep. My friends seem to be hooked by it though. My brother and I were playing Fast Food Simulator in between The Headliners sessions, and that is fairly fun, although you start off just making plain single or double hamburgers and it's a slow process to level up and unlock new ingredients. It's something like level 25 to unlock fries! Either way, our restaurant, Bab's Borgers, is doing quite well!

My reading is that the entire company is ceasing operations in the UK, but I think you'd need to contact them to find out for definite.

Just found out that the other piece of the puzzle (our internal catering system run by a company I probably shouldn't name) does not integrate with Arbor Pay...

We are currently in the process of migrating to Arbor which won't be fully in place until late April, so not only will we need to sort out a payment system for the interrim, we will then need to migrate it from SIMS to Arbor...

Hi all, We've just had an email that appears to be from sQuid saying that they are ceasing services in the UK from 14th March 2025: Has anyone else had this email? I have contacted their support desk to find out if it is genuine. If true, this is going to be a right pain!

We also received a similar email today. It doesn't look like we received any emails previously from our website host, and then suddenly this supposedly has to be done by the end of January... I've not had a chance to do any research about it, but I've handed it off to the powers that be so they can decide.

Vimeo is blocked by default to stop unrestricted access for both staff and students, but we can allow specific videos for staff and students through Smoothwall. If an online resource such as White Rose Maths uses Vimeo for their video hosting and they can't (or won't) offer an alternative, we'd ask them for a list of URLs so that we can allow the embedded videos.

Just to say that the new Chrome extension update fixed it for us as of 4pm on Friday - I was desperate to leave for the day so I didn't think to update the thread! Thanks for all your help.

Now I think this is disconnected because I'm on a wired desktop that would be filtered by our on-premises device. The Chromebooks are reading as connected, and these should be filtered by Cloud Filter. That begs the question, if Cloud Filter is not meant to be active on our desktops, why is it flagging those files?
