if you're using the cable powered by the hdmi socket then to VGA adaptor (the adaptor takes power from the hdmi) then these are usually ok for short VGA runs but for 5+ meter VGA connections the signal is too weak. This makes the Projector see and not see the signal. Some laptops can provide more power through their HDMI than others signal losses with the VGA cables etc. Get a powered adaptor, use a VGA amplifier, or if your laptop has one a DisplayPort to VGA will work much better.

(a member of staff) has lost their calendar. They were clearing things on their mac and today their calendar is empty. I'm assuming they deleted it.. somehow. Where are calendars stored?, how to I browse and restore this users calendar in office 365? Cheers.

well, you can setup the tasks trigger to run the program as a user logs in but it would always run on login! but you could use GPOP to delete the existing shortcuts, make new shortcuts to the scheduled tasks, which it can also create.

ok, this is a bit left field but you could remove the shortcuts to the programs and create new shortcuts to scheduled tasks that (run the program) and only allow one instance to run. testing now for phun.

A convincing message delayed (smtp delayed) email came to our staff this morning, and unfortunately at least 7 staff clicked on the link. Now 4 members of staff have been sending spam and are now blocked. I checked 3 of the staff laptops that were used and they show no sign of infection? how would this link send spam without infecting the laptop. The other staff used fixed PCs and they've not send spam (yet)

The big laugh! ontrack have evaluated the drives...this is the biggest load of crap ever, they sent me an email to tell me that they'd visually checked the drives and were ready to charge me £8000+VAT to do a diagnosis! ha ha ha OK if you didn't get it, they took the drives out onto a table and said yeap, those are hard disks, give me £8000 to see if I can fix em'.. btw it's then £10000 to actually do the recovery what a waste of time.

we are using facebook connect. So anyone with a facebook account can use our guest wifi. it's only available in some areas and the radio power is limited. it also makes users check in to our facebook page. EDIT: as most users are already logged into facebook on their personal device, they just press a button to join. Also people get a sense that they are monitored.

I have a new NAS that is AD aware. I'm trying to get GPOP to create a folder within a share for the individual user. I've given the test users group, traverse & list permissions. I've manually created a folder with read write permissions for just the testpupil1 and that worked a treat. Now I need GPO to create a folder with the individual read write permissions for just that user automatically. When GPO Preferences creates a folder what user is it using? The logged in user, or some system account? is this even the right approach? cheers. as my first test failed, access denied using the gpop create folder, I didn't use the users security context.

mini rant here: ok 45 minutes after unboxing this thing it still won't work. The web interface telling me that the network connection timed out?!? 3 restarts and a factory reset later still same error. Trying to log a support call on the Synology site requires impossible patience. As your efforts to correctly discern the type of device you have (from drop down lists) you have to pick correctly the device type then the error type category otherwise the 3rd field doesn't have your device in it and you can't make a support ticket! (this took 10 fing minutes!) guessing the permutations that'd grace me with the opportunity to get a support ticket made. Download the synology helper, finds the device go to configure BAM opens the webpage....pppplllllllppp. move on to googling it.. ok the device out of the box HAS NO NAS ABILITY again, out of the box this device can do nothing! EXCEPT. download the os from the synology website..... No internet, no fing' NAS, it'll assume you have a direct internet connetion with no filtering or you can f off! but wait, can you sideload an operating system via the synology tool... Yes...no.. Well the first image was a no go kept erroring that it was incompatible:( then I download an older copy...YES accepted.... FAIL>! You need to allow port 23 ake sure your router forwards this port and that your using a wired connection! I'm going to have to take this home to configure this thing... This thing with AD intergration... This fing toy! Should have "required Internet Connection" on the fing BOX!

Well, the reason I was being so bullish was that there wasn't supposed to be anything important on it. I'm sure pulling the drives when the Vdisk is offline is allowed. (as no data is being written, or read.) To allow disk migration without taking the whole san offline. I was surprised that it brought the Vdisk back online automatically, AND that it was green, (I even did a verify that took a full day). I was expecting to use a force vdisk command to extract the data in a last ditch effort. but I couldn't use force previously as 4 of the 5 drives were (supposedly) absent. Had I known that their was important data it'd of been backed up. I'd not even look at the san but chuck it. anyhow I'm talking to ontrack and packing up the drives thanks @rich_tech. (next time get a commission:)

Our site is also OM1 but it can do 10G just over very short runs, I bought 10G SPF+ and just tried them out, 2 of 8 links work at 10G! Other places I setup some trunks 2 and 4 gigabits. I'm using unify ubiquity.

I have about 60 GPOs but only 5 to 7 get applied. Some legacy (for reference), some for the future and the current ones. I have separate GPOs for windows 7,8 and 10 machines and pupils. (each with their wmi filter) it adds up.. I can't remember the think on GPO schemas, a few fat ones or lots of thin ones.

I already have a old ML350 G6 with 8 2.5bays but when I put my drives in it would constantly tell me that they were overheating (they were not) and would take them offline or slow them down. I learned on forums that this "bug" was HPs way of making you buy their drives. Can you put off the shelf non-hp drives into an hp server now?

you can get Bluetooth wearables that can automatically ring contacts (via an app) if a seizure is detected. We have a pupil here that uses one.

The Fujitsu 9 year old SAN (SX60) didn't like being powered down on Tuesday, upon being powered on the drives all came up green THEN amber and the vdisk didn't appear on the server. This is an old SAN and I've allowed people to use it as an area to share large multimedia projects e.g, many iterations of multilayer camera RAWs and lightly compressed video. This was with the understanding that the data was too large to backup (to costly in time and storage) and all the data on this drive was too be considered transient. Final projects were to be stored elsewhere. You can tell by this post that people heard my words but didn't listen, it would seem that the multimedia studies dept had kept important coursework on the drive with no other copies. This is going to be a bad time. After an age, I got into the management interface of the san (terminal access was a pain). The SAN told me that 4 of the 5 drives were missing and the vdisk was offline. Well a raid 5 with 5 drives and 4 missing is F'd. As it was looking like a total loss I powered the SAN down, reseated the drives and upon a restart the same issue occured. (I was really hoping a power cycle would get it) I figured that as the vdisk was offline that removing the drives whilst powered up the SAN would'nt object, removing the drives and reinserting them live! Well it seemed to work, as I inserted them they populated the drive list for the vdisk, when I re-inserted the final missing drive the vdisk brought it'self back on line! I quickly ran a verify and (by the next day) it was still all green.. yay! doged a bullet.... The fiber channel san is connected to a physical server, it wasn't seen or mounted so I rebooted the server. after 10 minutes the server still hadn't come back up, so I had to KVM to it. (something I've not used in a loooong time) it was running a chkdsk on the SAN and it didn't look good. Anyhow after an hour the server booted, showed the vdisk and all seemed fine. The directory structure, the files, the ACLs all working... The only problem was every file was corrupt. All of them, every picture has a sliver of an image but fails to open, all videos were corrupted... The SAN is all green, the files all CHKDSK, they're all broken. Not sure where to go from here, ideas?
