So here's a new one, a teacher called to see if we could help with her flash drive, it was appearing on her My Computer, but her files weren't showing. Knowing this is usually not a good sign, went over and had a look. All her files have merged into One large (4gb or so) file, with no known extension, and a strange name (which I can't remember off the top of my head). Doesn't look like anything can open it, so I wondered whether anyone had come across anything similar? I suspect the flash drive is corrupted (or possible a virus?), but before I deliver that bad news, I wondered if there was some hope for her!

Hi We are having some pretty major issues with roaming profiles at the moment and I wondered if anyone had some advice.... We are getting approx 50 users come in per day asking for their profiles to be reset because they are corrupted. It's not a permissions issue as far as I can tell because the problem has only been in the last couple of months but has been working for 6 months prior to that with only the occasional problem. I've installed the UPHClean fix from the very beginning but this doesn't seem to help. The station GPO's are configured to not cache the local profile (i.e. delete at logoff) This seems to be working ok on the stations I have checked. Any ideas anyone? This is driving me nuts at the moment

Hi, Bit of a weird one to throw out there... Completely randomly some users will experience and error whereby a Sharepoint document they have been editing quite merrily for some time will return the message: "Documents in this folder are not available. The folder may be have been moved or deleted, or network problems may be preventing a connection to the server." When they come to edit it. It is also identifiable by a corrupt Nethood. It seemingly only affects the one particular user on that one particular workstation. Removing the profile doesn't fix the problem. However, a system restore of the workstation to a time prior to the error message appearing will fix the problem. - No applications and seemingly no system files have been modified in the period between restore points and as I say, other users on the same box won't have the problem. In all cases, if the user can pinpoint a date when the problem started we can restore to a date prior and it will start working again. In a limited number of cases the workstation will corrupt again within days. If this happens our current fix is to reimage the workstation. Which so far has fixed the problem permenantly. We are using XP SP3, Office 2007 and Sharepoint server 2003. Has anybody come across anything similar? Thanks,

Hello, Got a strange one, i dont know if anyone has come across this before. I had a couple of laptops, clean builds, put them on a Server 2003 domain. They where windows XP SP3 with IE8. Logged onto the domain, rebooted and logged in as a user. Everytime I login as a new user I recieve the following error : "A Program on your computer has corrupted your default search provider setting for Internet Explorer." You then click on "OK", it opens up the Manage-Add ons windows, you click ok and never returns for that particular user on that particular machine" I have tried all the fixes on google with adding a registry key, which already exists, and setting a GPO to stop the change to the search provider with no joy.

Hello Promethean experts! One of our teachers has tried to open a flipchart this morning that she had created over the weekend. However, it seems to crash activinspire everytime it opens. This is happening on multiple computers with multiple versions of activinspire. A google search indicates that the file has probably been corrupted and is probably beyond recovery but I did not want to give up so quickly. If I open ActivInspire after it is forced to shutdown, it displays a message asking if I want to recover that file. Trying to recover still crashes the program but I can see it appear briefly so the data is still there. Many thanks!

Morning All, I'm in need of a little help with a Hyper-V VM running MS Windows 2008 Enterprise. It has several snapshots, the last of which I have been running a little bit longer than I should of. However, the snapshot has now become corrupt and before I make matters worse I would like to know if anyone has had a similar experience and managed to get it back or know of an individual or company that offer this service? Thanks in advance

Hi Guys, I've got a smart notebook file (with a .notebook extension). When I try to open it I get the following error "Cannot open the file, If the file is from a newer version of Notebook software, try saving it as a version 9 document." I'm assuming that this isn't a version issue since the document was created in version 9.7, the same as the version it was created with. (Although I have tried it on version 10 just to check, it gives the same error message). Anyone seen this before and have any ideas?

Hi all, Having a really frustrating problem on one of our servers. Somehow there are a few files that have appeared in a users work area, and they seem to be corrupt. Cannot delete, edit permissions or change literally anything. We've tried deleting from cmd prompt, using a unlocker program etc. Because these files are corrupt, DPM2010 is failing when backing up this particular drive. Any advice would be much appreciated!

The Fujitsu 9 year old SAN (SX60) didn't like being powered down on Tuesday, upon being powered on the drives all came up green THEN amber and the vdisk didn't appear on the server. This is an old SAN and I've allowed people to use it as an area to share large multimedia projects e.g, many iterations of multilayer camera RAWs and lightly compressed video. This was with the understanding that the data was too large to backup (to costly in time and storage) and all the data on this drive was too be considered transient. Final projects were to be stored elsewhere. You can tell by this post that people heard my words but didn't listen, it would seem that the multimedia studies dept had kept important coursework on the drive with no other copies. This is going to be a bad time. After an age, I got into the management interface of the san (terminal access was a pain). The SAN told me that 4 of the 5 drives were missing and the vdisk was offline. Well a raid 5 with 5 drives and 4 missing is F'd. As it was looking like a total loss I powered the SAN down, reseated the drives and upon a restart the same issue occured. (I was really hoping a power cycle would get it) I figured that as the vdisk was offline that removing the drives whilst powered up the SAN would'nt object, removing the drives and reinserting them live! Well it seemed to work, as I inserted them they populated the drive list for the vdisk, when I re-inserted the final missing drive the vdisk brought it'self back on line! I quickly ran a verify and (by the next day) it was still all green.. yay! doged a bullet.... The fiber channel san is connected to a physical server, it wasn't seen or mounted so I rebooted the server. after 10 minutes the server still hadn't come back up, so I had to KVM to it. (something I've not used in a loooong time) it was running a chkdsk on the SAN and it didn't look good. Anyhow after an hour the server booted, showed the vdisk and all seemed fine. The directory structure, the files, the ACLs all working... The only problem was every file was corrupt. All of them, every picture has a sliver of an image but fails to open, all videos were corrupted... The SAN is all green, the files all CHKDSK, they're all broken. Not sure where to go from here, ideas?

I have a whole list of users whose profiles are corrupt - they seem to be completely inaccessible to anyone, including the administrator. If I try and view the security tab for them I am told I don't have permission! This seems to be happening for any new users with roaming profiles (our kids use mandatory profiles). I've had a search around but understandably 'windows 2003 profile corrupt' or 'windows 2003 profiles inaccessible' etc... don't turn up anything which helps really. Anyone got any ideas? It is causing some real problems with some users.
