  1. iPad 4 is lightning connector, iPad 3 had the 30 pin connector.
  2. For me , Metro is just more dumbing down of Windows (and a step way to far, and bad design at its greatest) thats been happening since Windows XP. Windows 2000 was great GUI design wise. With XP it was dumped down, take the 'Control Panel' as one example, i had to turn it to Classic to make it usable, they made 'Simple File Sharing' which actually made things harder. To name but a few annoyances. Luckily in XP you could turn everything back to classic and get on with using the machine again. Every version of Windows this is getting worse.
  3. No iPad 2 available on the store.. iPad - Buy iPad Air and iPad with Retina display - Apple Store (UK) Not to bad though we get a better spec iPad for the same price now. Would have been nice to keep the iPad 2 going but lowered its price even cheaper. I still use my iPad 2 everyday and its not slow and I'm not upgrading any time soon.

    Apple Finance?

Does anybody work at a school that has ever used the Apple Education Finance Program? Apple (United Kingdom) - Financial Services - Education Finance Programme Just curious if anybody knows what kind of interest rates they charge? Just after examples of their finance.
  5. They run Macs so they can run Mac OS X because they found Windows to be not secure enough after they had a breach. Not because it makes them look more professional. We use Googles Munki for pushing software to Macs its a great light weight tool. Its only in the last 10 years that Microsofts own tools have been up to scratch in managing Windows Clients properly. Thats why RM Connect was popular with schools in the 90's because MS's own tools were absolute junk. Even Windows 2000 did not have a fraction of the Group Policies available today.
  6. After reading this today Windows hits the skids, Mac OS X on the rise Im not surprised all my close friends and my self have all dumped Windows for Mac OS for personal machines in the last 2 years. I'm seeing more and more people using Mac than ever before. Will be interesting to see if it gets to 10% and if it does how quickly. What do others make of it?
  7. He owns the winsupersite website.
  8. Veeam. The free version is great.
  9. Apple have a better system , AirPlay, which i believe Google are trying to mimic with Chromecast. I have 4 Apples TV's round the house at home, and i can beam BBC iPlayer, my iTunes library, YouTube, Netflix etc to any of them with a simple press off my iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. My Mac since 10.8 also supports AirPlay. No cables, no fuss, technology working as it should. It takes the Apples TVs out of standby and the TVs auto switch to the correct input all from pressing Airplay on device.
  10. We just have a HyperV VM for it. If you want a play plenty of youtube videos for step by step to get one up and running quickly to sample it like Tutorial How to Install VPN Server 2008 R2 - YouTube We have Terminal Services, VPN , and 2X/Terminal Services so many options for staff to choose.
  11. You could install the Windows VPN Service on a server then its 1 click on the client at home and it all works like your onsite...
  12. I get 4G most places i go now, more than happy i can get 50+Mbps in a field.
  13. Do you have a separate web server? I put Munki on that so i did not mess anything up on my Mac Server.
  14. Anybody got any experience with Windows Azure? I've taken the 30 day trial, setup a Server 2008 R2 box, installed the DNS Server service, copied my zone from one of our onsite servers (this is for external DNS, not AD), configured an endpoint so it forwards port 53 to the server, but i can never get any DNS querys to work using the Public Virtual IP. When i NMAP it shows port 53 open. Is there a step i've missed on Azure to access services running on Servers on that platform?
  15. When people are saying what their budgets are, do they have to take their broadband charges out of that pot to or does that come out of a separate pot? We get around £80,000 a year, but we have to get our licensing and leased line charges out of that too. We don't have an emergency limit set in stone its a case of something criterial they will just use the whole school pot.
  16. Yes, unless you can change the local folder path in the registry somewhere for dropbox.
  17. I take it your using the right click and 'Run as different user' to install? If so thats the issue when you do this the whole install is run in the context of the local admin account, so everything settings wise will get tied to it. So the local admins home directory path will be used.
  18. Yes if your using apples profile manager as the mdm ( no idea about other MDMs)but you push apps to enrolled users who are then in turn signed into iPad(s) if that makes sense.
  19. Just a little Gotcha, do you have any P4 machines still in use? We had a handful and when we went to SCCM 2012 SP1 (from no SP1 2012) we had to say good bye to them as the network boot image SP1 uses is Windows 8 based WindowsPE which just does not like P4's , where is not the No SP1 was Windows 7 based WindowsPE which worked fine and I'm guessing 2012 R2 will have the same issue. You might not have any but I'm sure some schools will have a few P4s lying around.
  20. The Atari ST/Amiga Dungeon Master for PC, requires Direct X 3 (or higher) Return To Chaos - The Dungeon Master / Chaos Strikes Back / Dungeon Master II Clone
  21. Most awesome tech would be my Mac Book Air i got in 2011. After spending my whole life hating and laughing off anything Apple (like a lot of Techs do), i thought sod it at least i will know how to operate the Mac OS if i get one, it really opened my eyes and i think its the coolest laptop ever made, and my favourite piece of Technology.
  22. I do find it odd they have not been trying to push out Windows 7 over the last 4 years. Im guessing they don't have the same licence discounts we get in education too. But i think things like this highlight why Microsoft need to have a separate business and consumer branch when it comes to the operating system like we had in the 90s with NT aimed at business and 9x aimed at consumer. Look at what Microsoft is doing (or at least was under balmer) and turning the OS into yearly refreshes with there colour waves, its just too fast for the non consumer world. They don't really care what the OS is , they want the specific application/job to work. Once they have removed XP and replaced it with 7/8 the same application will be being used, just this large cost in the middle Microsoft need a very long term support business oriented OS which maybe has 1 service pack every year, some sort of stability for these systems with all this data in.
  23. Have you tried the Cursor mode on MS's official iOS RDP App? Turns the screen into a trackpad, works really well with fiddley things where fingers just are not great.
  24. The PC has to have come with a version of Windows licensed to qualify as its only the upgrade version you get licensed for. As per MS Documentation..... only exception is the Mac in which they class Mac OS as a qualifying upgrade OS. http://download.microsoft.com/download/F/6/6/F6611596-992F-498A-A8EE-B0B39A6A4D0A/Enrollment_for_Education_Solutions_Program_Guide.pdf "When you license a desktop operating system through this Microsoft Volume Licensing offering, it is important to understand that only the UPGRADE license for Windows is available—FULL operating system licenses are not offered. Prior to licensing a Windows upgrade through your EES desktop platform, you need to have a full underlying license for a qualifying operating system for each PC. (Qualifying operating systems are listed in the Microsoft Volume Licensing Product List. You can get the necessary full Windows operating system license in the following two ways:  For newly manufactured PCs, the best way to acquire that license is to have the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) preinstall Windows on the PC.  If the OEM has not preinstalled Windows on the PC, then you can purchase a full Windows license through retail full-packaged product (FPP)."
  25. Im not sure if its a spoof news site the USA or real, but still funny either way.
