By the looks, the FS605 only has a 1024 Mac table, so given the client devices including printers ap's etc. And switchport MACS that may be learned also. Then yes the MAC table may well be getting full. Rob

Are the "links" forced to the correct speed/duplex settings. I had a big issue where our core and an edge switch we both flappign about autonegotiating. Force the managed switch to 100 or 1000 full duplex rather than auto and see if that clears up some of the garbage. Rob

Wireshark will only pickup broadcast packets and unlearned destinations if the switch is unmanaged as there will be no way to turn on port mirroring. Rob

well the BRI could handel that , but we do have an analoug phone in reception on a PSTN in case the system goes down. Our last failure was a remote failure on the ISDN30 at the main site, I routed outgoing calls over the ISDN2 at the second site (1Gb Wan link) altough that was only 4 channels so people were told EMERGANCY ONLY! And the DDI's did not work for incomming.. Foolish thing is we are with a 3rd party call plan company so BT don't want to get involved, and 3rd Party don't open till 9AM! BT support is staggeringly one of the better ones! Rob

I am about to plan the migration off out E1 and BRI ISDN, we can have SIP via redundant ADSL and leasedline and reduce cost too. May keep 1 BRI at each site for full failover. Rob

If you look in the bios it will tell you the AC adapter type. if it's blank, unknown, etc... then there are 3 possible issues. 1) the ac adapter is not signaling the PSU type due to a fault. 2) the ac adapter is just not designed to signal 3) the signaling pin on the input jack on the laptop is damaged. 3- is quite a common fault. only way to be sure is to get a known working original/copy PSU Rob

We dumped our supplier/support company after 18 months and invested back in staff. We took out some direct support with one very specialist company and a couple of contracts direct with the systems suppliers. Cutting out the middle men saves a fortune and reduces the layers. I think when supporting multiple organisations, finding enough work whilst also being available for crisis and having the knowledge to effectively resolve issues on a vast array of systems is always difficult for individual. And if you enter into a regular time agreement then you need to keep to that too. Rob

Not sure, We tend to get given "Efficiency" days. Basicaly, if we said we wanted to work then they would have to get the facilities company in to open up and we would be there doing very little. So they see it as a cost saving. Rob

we used old crashpilots as firewalls and mail relays. never got used for the intended purpose as the NIC was configured as per the RBC and our network was firewalled from the RBC network. Rob

I looked everywhere for any decent information on the device, had to pice it together from 2-3 random forum posts. The documentation is/was appalling and I found no formal help for it. Not being able to set a static IP on it and not being able to get any decent diagnostic information out of it is a big let down as is the 3G only support. I would say it's not a BUSINESS device, and also a friend who is a Techi tried one at home and could not get it to work EASILY! Rob

We used to do staftops, then went to desktops for two years during transition to new site and wanted to stay that way but SLT wanted Laptops for all staff. So we bought them, they under perform, cause connectivity issues with IWB's, batteries die, they get droped, etc etc.. Even staff say they prefered the fixed terminals. We have spent £1000's on parts in the last 18 months. And in 18months time we will probably need to refresh the whole lot. Rob

get the IP, and then get DHCP to statical assign it. then make sure your firewall will allow 123UDP 50UDP/TCP 4500UDP 500UDP Took me ages of faffing to find out and get it registerd. If your providing devices, and have them locked down then it's a viable solution. However... If your letting teachers use their own ( or unsecure provided equipment ) who regularly visit MP3 & torrent download sites, let their kids play java games on the latest insecure site, click on the link that says "YOUR COMPUTER IS INFECTED CLEAN UP NOW", have kids who are hackers, send out their entire email address book to every virus writer in the world, ETC ( Add everything that seems to happen to "Unsuspecting" users.. Then allowing them direct VPN access to your network should be taken with great care, just the same as BYOD devices within school. Rob
