How is the HDD connected? I would rule that out before looking at the network. At 189KB/m you have a serious problem We throw all our backups over a 1Gbps 5 mile wan link site a-b and vice versa and don't ever have performance problems on the network ... If we were running at that speed we would never get a backup. Rob

Our migration was going on at the same time from Novell ED & AD to new domain AD domain , new servers, new building , new everything.. Fortunatly that was mostly being handled for us but we needed to be in 4 places at once to clsoed down, transfer, build and open up. in a little under 2 weeks when most people were on christmas holidays. We had 650 machines to document & wipe and relocate all equipment from arround the site to a central collection point , allong with monitors, printers, whiteboard etc. in 3.5 days between four staff. We Set Killdisk going, moved to anotehr room, returned later and did the physical move. And we had new site stuff to get on with too... Some very late evenings and worn out bodies. Rob

You realy need to know what the circuits are and where else they feed. If someone trips the mains in a room halfway down the corridor you don't want it to be the same circuit that your cab is on. Rob

We replaced all teacher laptops 18 months ago when we moved sites. Everyione was given the opportunity to purchase their old unit for £1 no mater what it was. If they did not have one they could not buy one. We stipulated that. THEY MUST remove the operating system and replace with their own. THEY MUST never come back and discuss them with us . WE WILL never provide any support. THEY CAN'T sell on, they must make final disposal via a WEE aproved recycling point. Some people still came back and asked us "About that laptop" ... To which we were blunt and said that they had signed a form saying they would not bother us. The whole point was to get rid of machines that would be a burden on us in our new facility. Seemed to work. if your staff are after class PC's tell them that any machine will haev it's disk wiped and that they would have to find and install an operting systemand application. And that there would be no support what so ever. That usualy puts them off. Rob
