the DG has a DG of the vlan interface, the access rules only permit the captive box . This is assuming the captive box is proxying and can do ssl if you need it. it may be simpler to run a transparent bridge. your more or less wanting exactly what I am working through by the sound of it. Not sure about the smoothie.. what do you actually want it to do? but to have a different DG, don't put an IP on the vlan interface and it won't route. Plug the other router into the vlan and have it issue DHCP to that vlan. Rob

I have actualy got a very convoluted setup in testing at the moment.. Our old ISCSI array is a datastore on VMWARE, we have an openfile on vmware which uses 2 256GB drives created on the ISCSI, datastore, the open filer shares them as NFS (and samba) the NFS share is also a datastore back to VMWARE. That allows GhetoVCB to back up to the "Localish" datastore, and XEN to backup to the NFS, therefore both utilising the ISCSI storage... In testing the Buffalo was slow , the ISCSI fast but can't share it all with XEN and VM at the same time, and convoluted homebrew nfs was almost as fast..... Rob

Once I have it working our users pupils will hit the portal, accept the AUP and then be connected to our VDI login page. The only thing they can do is hit that, no other ports will work, no other websites will work, ( that's the Cisco access lists job ) We already have the second part in force for our IPAD wifi for Zone Leaders. We bought a Terrastation 8TB Pro earlier this year. Quite frankly it is utter garbage. It's joined to the domain but we can hardly ever get to the shares unless we are using one of it's local service accounts. If you use the IP instead of the name in DNS it's not going to work at all connecting it's windows shares. NFS can't be forced into async so performance on NFS is dreadful I built an Openfiler SAN on an old PC and it outperforms and has more functions than the Buffalo.. Rob

My friends Freeland popped it's first head gasket at 48K, and the second at 56K. You should not have to "Make it Bullet proof" , they should last unless there is a catastrophic cooling system failure. I lost a lot of water in my old Mondeo V6 when a loose plate in the pump wore through the casing, I noticed the heater going cool and then the needle heading skywards.. Switched off, and coasted down the hard shoulder and up behind another motorist and the AA . with the steam still belowing the AA man was of the opinion that the engine was kippered but after a tow to the next service station and some water in she statred cleanly. we then found the water comming out the pump casing and it was a tow all the way home. I would have spat my coffee out if I had been drinking it. Good engine, cunning design with the long bolt. But HG's go on these and garages don't really like doing them as they are a PITA... And if you go to a garage with a KV6 with a water problem the technicians will magically vanish!

I have been working on this for the last couple of days on and off. I initialy was going to use our Meru captive portal, until i discovered that it only supports one portal despite supporting 4 landing pages and 4 networks ( so even if you have a landing page associated with one ssid, the pupils can just use their user to connect to the other guest SSID !!!GREAT!!! ) So I had a quick play on a test SLES box and had some issues, so tried ClearOS and had some issues.... So tomorrow is "Untangle" day, and if that does not work without hacking then i will give pFsense a go. What you need to do is have captive portal and have the success page forward to your internal landing page. When the user connects to the network the portal (which must either be a transparent bridge or the default gateway ) intercepts the web traffic, whatever you go to it displays a logon page, once logged on you get the success page that can redirect to your landing page.

create a service landing page that you tell the students the url. setup access lists on the cisco to only allow trafic to the desired hosts and ports.

Yes you would think XEN would handle Linux easily, it was the P2V and the "Tools" that kept giving me trouble. Just counted 53 Servers on Xen ESXi is free too although we have a mix of ESXi and ESX (we have a licence from a few years back) there's about 10 servers at present on them. Rob

I hate XEN when it comes to linux. Much prefer vMware.. In fact I prefer vMware full stop, we have a mix of both though. Rob

dont join them. you will end up with a 2ohm load that the head unit may not be able to handell. as sugeted just find a 4 way plug, run the cable to the rear. I hardly ever keep stock wiring when I am upgrading. rob
