Who keeps a change log? We have a log to note down major changes against helpdesk tickets (which obviously go into more detail) And System scripts are annotated at the top for chages. Rob

If we are talking about other rooms. On this site we have a distribution room which is probably as big as the server room but has 2 48U cabs for cabling and switches. a wall rack in a classrom store. a wall rack in the tightest place in a cupbaord a corridor (very legacy) you can't get to one side of the rack easily as there is a wall in front of it. And down our 5m Pipe we have our sister building with a 5x5 server room (4 42U rack) and 3 distribution rooms 2 with 42u racks and one with a 24u rack. Rob

Would not want my own office. We work as a team, we discuss issues during work flow. Having to go to another office would be detreimental to day to day operation and development. Rob

Also.. "X" put the structured cabinet on teh end of the run of cabinets. So there is a mass of cabling all running one way. Basicaly if we had planned it, then It would ahve been done a whole heap better. RANT OVER.... Rob

With Respect to (11) Total heat output was calculated by "X" based on thermal output from device's . Obviously that is MAX output. Their calcs came in at under 7.5Kw So we run two 7.5kws for N+1 Rob

With respect to (10) The design and install were poor. Insufficient outlets were specified , loadings not checked, etc. We battled to have it sorted but got nowhere. We are still neeedding to rectify this. As an example (and this is on our other site which came second!) they specified too few cabinets for the server room despite us asking them to provide rack diagrams to ensure the space. So after primary install they agree that there needs to be another rack to house equipment sitting on the floor. And it would need a UPS, and as such would need power. My colleauge "Z" rings me up. we will call the installer "X" Z: "Hi Rob, X have had a look in the ceeling and say there is a feed already there, so they can put in the extra UPS no problem" Me: "Realy? A Spare 32A? Bonus.." Z: "No, it's a 16A but X assure me it's fine" Me: "But the UPS is an APC RT6000 right?" Z: "Er, yeah... X say it's fine" Me: "But 6000VA will overload the Supply" Z: "Will it, they say that's how the other one is connected" Me: Spits and rants. Me: "Ask them to look on the back panel of the ups next to the incommer, look at the Rated supply. It's not 16A!!!!!" Me: "So they need to fix that one too!" Rob

You are in london which means the hourly is going to be quite high. I pay £35+vat ( well I actualy get trade rate labour so it's a bit less than that ) , But I would do an alternator myself... Just weighing up if I do my coolant control valve myself or leave that one to the garage as it's a pain doing it on the drive. Rob -

12.7 is a healthy battery voltage, but it may still be faulty. As it's a Deisel it has no ignition system to run, and it will be mechanical injection. So as long as your not using anciliary devices such as lights, demiste, fan, radio. the main drain will be starting the car. This should be ok for a few attempts if the car is an easy starter and may continue to start long term with a faulty alternator giving some charge. Rob -

The software is expecting all files to stem from the root of the drive not a sub folder. Rob

Now... If you have a glorious warm sunny day, make sure you put the hood down. The number of convirtables I see on warm sunny days with the hood up far outstrips the ones down. WHY buy one! In fact make it every day, we had a Uni Lecturer who drove a Morgan ( it was an old one even in 1994) every day, it had no hood. He just had a flying hat and gogles. Rob

the commands are valid, the parameters are not in this instance given the first diagram. It's simple routing and platform independant. I am not just quoting exampls, I have regular 1st hand experience of cisco routing, switching, firewall and IPT. Don't give up just yet, post up your entire 3560 config (less the security) , and an output of sh vlan , and a screenshot of the smoothwall routing screen.... We can go from there. Rob -

I have answered it about 5 times.. your "ip route" are saying the networks are accessible via the smoothwall and they are not, they are accessible via their respective vlans. Yours if it even sort of worked. Packet arrives at cisco from 172.20.0.5 to go to 172.20.1.10 routing table says that 172.20.1.10 is accessible via 192.168.0.1 192.168.0.1 says nope don't have that network. packet arrives at cisco from 172.20.0.5 to go to 8.8.8.8 routing table says I have no route to that host. mine. Packet arrives at cisco from 172.20.0.5 to go to 172.20.1.10 routing table says that 172.20.1.10 is accessible via the directly connected vlan ip 172.20.1.1 packet routed out of vlan interface 172.20.1.1 packet arrives at cisco from 172.20.0.5 to go to 8.8.8.8 routing table says default route is 192.168.0.1 packet goes to smoothwall to 8.8.8.8 (via many hops) back to smoothwall packet arrives at smoothwall from 8.8.8.8 destined for 172.20.0.5, smoothwall says 172.20.0.5 is accessible via 192.168.0.2(cisco) cisco says that 172.20.0.5 is accessible via the directly connected vlan ip 172.20.0.1 packet routed out of vlan interface 172.20.0.1 Rob -

your ip route commands say that the smoothwall is the next hop for the 172.x.x.x networks, the smoothwall is NOT the next hop for the 172.x.x.x network the cisco itself has these networks directly connected, it has already knows about them. the smoothwall needs to know that the cisco is the next hop for 172.20.1.0/24 and 172.20.2.0/24 Rob -

Remove your routes. no ip route 172.20.0.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.0.1 no ip route 172.20.0.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.0.1 then do a show ip route you should see two routes for the 172 networks this is clipped output of my router here. ======================= C 192.168.1.0/24 is directly connected , vlan1 C 192.168.2.0/24 is directly connected , vlan2 S 0.0.0.0/0 is directly connected, Dialer0 C is a directly connected route S is a Statically created route ( using ip route ) in this case via the DSL dialer but could be an IP. my only ip route command is ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 Dialer0 Rob
