One nice advantage of using Cisco, apply a "Desktop" port macro and it will configure the QOS etc so the only thing to do is designate the Data vlan and voice vlan numbers. We tend to run most of our phones on dedicated ports, but I can't say I have ecer had a problem when the port is doing the Data and Voice Vlan. The cisco also knows there is a phone on the end of the wire thanks to CDP. TT

Ours is nice and simple as we just let the pupils access one server on :443 ( our VDI ) and that is all. This is via a Captive portal on pFsense, the meru just vlans the Student BYOD ESS to that machine. We are not implementing AD intergration as yet, we are starting small with 6FM users that have to register for the service acceptint the AUP. We will add them to the users on the Portal. Once evlauated we will look at the need for Directoy intergration. Rob

do you have encryption? if not then the UN/PW is being fired over the air with no encryption. we have an easy SSID passphrase and encrypted traffic. Rob

Yes You will need radius server configured on your DC, You will need a radius entry in the meru "Configuration > Security > Radius" You will need a security Profile "configuration > security >profile"to use the radius server You will want an ESS " configuration > wireless > ess " to use the security profile HOWEVER... are you going to be restricting what they can do once connected to your network? are you vlanning, port ACLing? It's sad to hear there are problems with support as SW is on our list for possibly replacing our current solution in a 18 months time. We hardly ever use support services, it's almost always when we haev totaly exhausted all possible options, often we have a better idea of the problem than 1st line support ( took me 50 mins on the phone on friday to get our current filtering provider to understand that their own system was not working correctly and it was not just us being silly! Hes's done a job for £1,500 , he's either self employed or avoiding tax. You can be employed and self employed at the same time. Rob

If your doing it by the book then you need to quantify the amount of use for personal gain and for business use. you can do the same with household expenses if using your home as an office.. Rob

If you have self employed earnings then yes you can offset business expenses against tax, howver given the lifespan of a mac you would probably claim it over a 5 year period. on your self assesment you would fill in your earnings from employment, earnings from self employment and expenses incured in the course of your business. swap to ip access-group byod in. and I just use permit udp any eq bootpc any for dhcp with the helper in the vlan too you should not need the deny either as this should be explicit. Rob

We get T5740's that show a power light but don't appear to come on. They go to HP for waranty repair. But not had one that does nothign at all ( at least as far as I can recall) Rob

Do they even attempt to power on? look for a micro fuse near the power inlet, may as well have a look before they go in th bin. Should be able to trace the power with a multi meter. Rob

Test with Suse or Debian Linux to see if it can see the drive and confirm driver issue. Rob

Well the kit is hopefuly the right way up, it's now on and working running pFsense for our BYOD captive portal. Rob

Ahh, i remember switching to the wrong machine on remote terminal and instead of being in /var/spool/xyxyxy , I was in / After thinkg for a few moments that it was taking longer than expected I realised that I was in the process of wiping the filesystem of our proxy server... HayHo.. It was a bit screwed.. But it had not got as far as TAR... So just untared the backup file back to the files system Rob

If it is a router then SDM will generaet ACLS. Other wise try Cisco Network Assistant for Catalyst switches. Rob

Depending on the size of install ( if your small ) A Cisco UC320 does a lot for a little and looks easy to set up according to the vid. I Run a Full blow Cisco Call manager and Unity Connection... Way over the top for what we need but it's what we got supplied. Won't be changing that for a long time. Rob
