Remove Windows 8. Problem solved . On a serious note, isn't it just a fancy RSS reader? There must be somewhere to change what sports you can see, or to just remove the app from your Start screen entirely. I've not actually got a Windows 8 install to test this out on anymore though I'm afraid.

There's not going to be anything that desperately needs securing in the DB, just the results from some races and some news stories, but if it where to get compromised obviously that would be quite bad. What I'm really looking for is an idiot's guide of how to set it up in the first place. Could you recommend a good guide? I've tried doing a Google search, but the problem is people on forums (present company excluded obviously!) tend to assume that you know it all already. I have a fairly good grounding in PHP, that's about it.

Is this as simple as sticking MD5 in front of the user's password when they submit the form (INSERT INTO tblUsers userID=1 userName=Kirchie userPassword=md5(Password) ) or as I suspect is there more to it than that? I'm trying to set up a simple CRM for a website, but with all the hackings going on its got me thinking.

It does sound like a permissions issue, but you seem to have ruled that out. Your set up looks exactly what I've used before in the past, and that's worked (almost) flawlessly. The only thing I could suggest is check to see if the Macs have appeared in the AD computers folder, then try moving them to a Mac OU or something like that. Or try rebinding the computer to AD/OD?

Success! Now running Windows 7. Like you suggested I had to use Win7 drivers from slightly different models (my sister's got the exact same machine but with less memory and storage, so I used that model number instead). I did have to use diskpart and clean the disk to get rid of the GPT on it though, so I've lost the recovery partition. But I don't think I'll loose any sleep over it tbh. And I think that may be what was causing Windows 7 to fail during install the first time round...

Might be worth checking the AHCI/ATA setting in the BIOS? I know I always used to have machine that wouldn't detect hard drives if they were in the wrong mode.

I had a full retail copy of Windows 8 that I just installed over the top. If there's one thing I hate about OEM licenses it's all the blotware that comes with it. I did try and burn the recovery discs, but it kept failing so I gave up and wiped it anyway. It's still got the recovery partition though.

Cheers Dimensions, that's a really thorough gide! I've been using the laptop with Windows 8 for now, but as soon as I get a weekend day free it'll be going back to Windows 7. I thought I owed it to 8 to give it a fair try. But it's just so unusable and counter intuative. As soon as Steam is out of beta I'm going Linux tbh.

Could be a lost trust relationship between AD and the client computer too? Depends if this is affecting a few computers here and there or a classroom.
