You need to register the subdomain, students.domain.co.uk ( a host on a domian ) is different to .students.domain.co.uk ( a domain ) Rob

Actually the DNS host would have to support MX on subdomains before 365 gets involved unless your using 365 to do the DNS. I looked at that but did not want MS to be looking after DNS records for my entire domain preferred either my own DNS servers or my registrars Rob

The TXT file is there just for the setup process to validate domain ownership, it's not needed once that is done. what happens when you nslookup students.domain.co.uk Does live/365 even support MX's for subdomains? TT

Back when we ran our own squid(guard) we used to block http(s) requests to IP's ( sites not using FQDNs) Never seemed to cause a problem and solved a number of them. Since moving to another product we have not done this, until today when I bothered to work out how to do it (not as easy as squidGuard) So will see what happens on Monday. Anyone else doing this? I was trying to do this last december and could not find a product to do it. Spent a week trying! Even our Cisco ASA5520 firewall could not provide data. pfSense may be able to do it. Rob

A few weeks back we were developing our BYOD solution, part of which required us to try and block peer-2-peer traffic on our wifi. Meru support were very attentive and helpful but it looked like it was not possible on our hardware. However I mentioned this to Mark at Meru UK, He gave me a call the next day and although he's not the technical guy we chatted and he realised he would be in the area with Paul ( the technical one ) today and said they would try and get through. Tonight we had the pleasure of their company, they fixed one issue and found out that we can achieve our goal of separating p2p with existing firmware. We got one controller configured leaving the easy job to replicate across the other controller tomorrow. With Pauls help this evening we have a number of pointers to improve the install ( done by 3rd party ) which will help us to monitor and maintain it when BYOD is launched.
