Afternoon all, My 365 setup is going very well however I am finding my problem is we have SLG accounts in the domain and 365 is finding it hard because the SLG accounts have the same email address as the network account. Can I exclude these from my 365/Azure AD somehow as it just creates whatever account it finds first sadly? I did look online and found someone claiming it can be done but each step looked more confusing than the last so hoping someone has an "education proof" solution. Worst case I will nuke the SLG account's email address unless the admins can come up with a decent reason to keep it. Thanks

I had this the other day... http://www.edugeek.net/forums/cloud-services/155565-new-365-questions.html Nice fella on there explained to me about UPN suffix which is what you need and confirm it works.
-
That makes me feel better thanks. Explains why the first 3 surfaces worked correctly and the 4th had problems. Managed to make an enterprise USB key and build it from that and the start screen worked as intended again.
-
you sir, are awesome. I will no doubt grumble about it all weekend and come in Monday in a mood to powershell my socks off. Thank you
-
just added the UPN and have found how to force a sync with powershell so will see what happens. Assuming this all falls into place its then a case of making a script to change every user's upn before working on the licencing system. Thank you for all your help but still dont see why it needs to be this hard. I just kind of blinked at google docs and it worked.

Thanks for the help and yes my users are domainname.internal . Adding a UPN sounds scary Just want the users to have basic 365 education for students / faculty so they can get office at home easily. Im ok with powershell but this is proving far harder than I thought it would be.

Couple of questions for 365. I have to assume I have done something wrong in the setup and am hoping the answer is not "just use this 50 page powershell script"... 1: I have the directory sync currently running and users are coming over however it is setting all users to the "@schoolname.onmicrosoft.com" domain rather than my real one. I see you can go into each user and change this but must believe there is a better way (not changing 2000 users by hand).Just to add, my real domain is my default. 2: How do I assign users a licence in bulk? So far I can only see how to do it one person at a time. The groups have started to sync and would assume I could assign a licence to them but can not see anything obvious. Such early days but so far Google was so much easier to setup. Thanks all

I will be in touch a little later on in the year

Managed to get my SLT to look into replacing SLG at last and am pushing for Schoolcomms. Anyone experienced this and what was the general feeling from staff and parents? Personally you could cut glass with my nipples at the thought of removing SLG so am eager to hear what you have to say. Thanks

Classroom is like a dream. I have had a few staff not to happy at the idea of switching but you can show them in real time just how easy it is to create and manage it from anywhere. I would think once they have setup a classroom for each lesson they teach, they could just take the rest of the year off!

As long as I don't have to manage the stupid thing, I am happy. "here is a Moodle installation setup by the previous person running on Ubuntu with no setup notes.... oh and if it breaks, we're doing you in.... what do you mean you have never used PHP".........

Do you use Windows 8? We have it to switch to the daily Bing picture everyday and can share the script if you want?

Thanks for the number. Surprisingly helpful for a multi-national company like MS!

Hello, Dopey as I know I am, I can not recover my school's 365 admin account. We tested 365 about 3 years back and signed up for the free to school level, decided it was not for us but of late I want to look into it again. I know the email account we used however recovering the password requires 2 step verification and have changed phone numbers in the time so need does anyone have a decent education support link please? Thank you

You sir, are amazing!

Morning, Hope someone can either help me or tell me it cant be done... I have a problem where I want people using my SharePoint server (parents) to have a lower password complexity than standard domain users. Now we have a default domain policy which dictates this however after a morning of testing various solutions, I have come to the conclusion that no matter what policy applies to the user's desktop computer, it is the policy on the domain controller which dictates the final password policy. To test this, my default domain policy says passwords must be at least 8 characters long however I made a new group policy to a test desktop claiming passwords must be at least 14 characters long. After a few GP refreshes I tried to change the password and it still allowed me to use 8 character long passwords, even though the desktop the request came from said it has to be at least 14. I enabled loopback replace policy but still no joy. Are you stuck to one password policy per domain or am I missing a setting somewhere. My SLG team are looking for a more relaxed approach to passwords as parents are experiencing issues however I am more in favour of a bit more security for my users. Hope I explained that correctly! All help appreciated. Thank you.

Just playing with the google email migration tool and thought I may take a stab at migrating just my account over to see how it goes and have hit a brick wall at hurdle one... Google want my web services url which is not a problem but then also wants "admin credentials of your email server". I tried domain admin accounts but it does not want to know while also requiring it in email address format. Anyone know of some powershell magic to find this info out? I have not played with exchange much and didn't set ours up. Any thoughts? Thanks
-
Thanks for that. Its odd because I have 3 other surfaces which I am sure are customised however it was a while ago. That would at least explain the issue. Currently on plan F to get this to work now. Thanks

I need to start off by saying I am not new to Windows 8. I have used it and pushed it out to my school from the moment it was new and am aware of many of its quirks when it comes to pushing start screens out but I have hit a problem which is annoying the hell out of me and hope someone can point out something I have missed. We have 4 Surface Pro 3's in the building and rather than build from PxE (another story all together), I just join them to the domain as they come with Windows Pro and the first 3 of them worked as expected, all picking up the correct group policy and applying my customised start screen via xml. Now we got a 4th in and all went well until SIMS had to be installed and there was an issue. Knowing what I know about SIMS deployment issues I felt it just easier to restore the Surface and start again rather than trouble shoot Solus3. Now since doing this, all the policy applies perfectly including logon pictures, software deployment etc.... however the customised start screen WILL NOT DEPLOY AND THIS SILLY THING HAS BEEN ON MY DESK FOR THREE WEEKS! I know its applying something because it will not allow you to move the start tiles meaning it sees the group policy pointing it towards a custom start screen and I know it has permission because you can browse the xml from the user. Its driving me totally nuts because I have so much more to do than fanny about with a surface which should just work! If I have missed a vital point or easy work around, please someone let me know! Ta

I believe you can use Microsoft Intune to push apps out although expensive as well as SCCM. Getting the Appx packages however is maybe the hardest thing you have ever done in your life.

We are closing down our VLE for Google Classroom over the next 12 months. Twas a good day when I got that approved.

CloudRuckus - Has Anyone Deployed Using This ?
robjduk replied to darrenjones's topic in Wireless Networks
Interested to hear about this. I am looking to refresh my Ruckus soon if money appears and want to look at cloud Ruckus. My local wireless goto are not to sure as they have not dealt with it but I am very much one of those "if it works in the cloud, it moves to the cloud" people. One less box to go fuzz and ruin my day in my opinion. -
[sims] SIMS Learning Gateway - Hosted Version.
robjduk replied to william_tropico's topic in MIS Systems
I would urge you to reconsider SLG. Its slow and hard to manage when compared to the many other systems out there and as mentioned above, parents use hardly any of it. As for your question, I looked into hosted SLG a few years back and it seemed a hell of a lot of money while they still insist you mange it with updates. Things could have changed but I would throw all the money in the world at it to remove the need to touch SLG again. -
There is no discussion to be had, you go and buy Veeam. I use Veeam to onsite server storage and am about to start using Veeam's new cloud connector and start storing them in the cloud

Hello, Can anyone recommend a decent contact who can look up parts for Lenovo laptops? The Lenovo website has broken me to the point I am not buying their items again. Thanks
