So the general consensus is that TAPE is not longer used. Just using large external HDD's to back them up off site. Veeam seems like the overall winner here. Does anyone know if Veeam can do the "self restore" or "previous versions" like DPM does? If users right click --> Properties then they can restore back to a previous version themselves. Thanks

Hahaha! You do make me laugh. Redundancy!! If you came for a site visit you'll see how pants it is here. Servers only gets replaced when it dies. Preventative measures doesn't exist at the moment. We have 2x low end HP AMD servers fit for running 2-3 VMs as they are using 4x 4TB RAID5 7K Disks, but each server actually has upto 10 VMs each and they are complaining why everything so dog slow....

But surely if the host server is running 30 plus vms (not that we do) it'll mean the network will be out of action till the base server is back up and running. No??

Yeah I've tried the Veeam free edition, it seemed to have worked fine on my test bed but then my test bed died an ugly death. My only worry is (which I haven't checked on the full edition of Veeam) is what about backing the VM Host server??

Hi all, I was wondering what you guys use as your backup system? Are people still using tape or just HDD? Are you still running the software based systems or have you moved over to appliance/cloud solutions? What would you recommend? We're currently using Microsoft DPM2012, and to be frank... it's a royal pain in the backside! The great bit is that staff and students can perform self restores (not that they actually do that as they still keep coming to me) and the use of previous versions is very handy as well. But surely there are other "better" products out that which is more reliable than this product. Can you run (on the same server) DPM 2012 for the self restores/previous versions and run something else to do full backups at the same time? Or is there just a better product out there that can do it all? Thanks

Hiya, We're looking at replacing our Meraki MX-90 and looking at other products that are cheaper and aimed more towards education. I was wondering if anyone has heard/used WatchGuard XTM or would recommend a product over another. I think we're looking towards the £3500 install and setup costs with on going costs to be far cheaper. Any suggestions? Thanks

Hi, I've just taken over a new network which uses Citrix VDI-in-a-box and it's seems to have developed a problem. I know nothing about this product apart form it was working a few weeks ago and I haven't (previous technician might have) touched anything. The problem that I have now is that when a user logs onto the box, the user is pushed to the session and the user gets logged in but then nothing happens. No applying gpos, no installing software, no nothing just sits with the windows wallpaper and the shutdown/restart icon on the bottom corner and nothing happens. If I rdp into the hyper-v box it logs in but I'm guessing Citrix then logs me out automatically. So the hyper-v box works fine but there seems to be a Citrix client problem. I'm utterly clueless in how to troubleshoot this problem so any help would be great. Thanks yours.... Novice.
