  1. better than my fix where I just removed flash from the macs forever!
  2. Give a few Chromebooks to staff to use in a lesson and see what happens. We are currently running local storage and google side by side and I am trying to get across the point of google is unlimited, available anywhere and on any device with minimum upkeep. If I can get the SMT backing I hope for I see no reason to have more than a little limited on site storage in a few years.
  3. I did see that but there was a reason we couldn't use it. Can not remember what it was exactly but it did come up. Thanks though.
  4. That's the one. Just wonder if anyone has experience of them or another system which just offers authentication. Much as I like to look of the boxes which do all, I just want this one problem plugged for now.
  5. authentication against AD (including LDAP). We don't host much so just SLG, Moodle and remote access. Just want a nice login page which pushes users to their requested resource if they have a correct username and password.
  6. Hello, Looking for an ISA replacement system and Kemp has come up. Anyone got experiences of this they can share? Failing that I could use some recommendations of other ISA replacements however it has to be just that as not interested in one of these solutions which do 100 things and I only want one. Thanks
  7. Good work getting the job. Its funny that I am not the only one who wants a job in the real world. Think you hit the role of IT manager in education exactly in your message and hope to find a job like yours in the next couple of years and become a real IT professional.
  8. Makerbot. Replicator G was quite easy to do as I remember
  9. Afternoon all, On a rank or 0 to dealing with Toshiba customer support, how easy is it to configure and deploy single sign on for Google? I tried a couple of years back and buggered a setting up so have not touched it since. Is there a good guide out there or is it better to throw money at a company to make it work? Thanks
  10. I did manage to make an MSI however there was some problem with it accessing the program files folder which I believe is my network's problem. Interested to hear how anyone else got on as I found it's insistence on installing the hardware during installation to be the main problem to overcome when making a software package.

    Install a font

Anyone got a good way to install a font over group policy? Seen people use MSI and powershell but really tired today and just want the quickest way to mass deploy this thing. Any suggestions? Ta
  12. it may have changed now but when I tested 365 for education out I found it to be a pain in the arse. They seemed to go "here is a sharepoint, knock yourself out". Maybe I missed something but even getting word online up like you can with an outlook account was a faff.

    Chromebooks...!

we use Google Apps Premier Reseller | Cloud Technology Solutions as they have done well for us over the past couple of years although I know the bigger names like Stone will be happy to help as well. Long as you find someone who can supply the EDU licence you are set.
  14. No we do not use gmail. As long as you don't enable it and do not route your traffic to google, you can keep your emails running how you want them. We use onsite exchange.
  15. I looked at Google+ recently and as it seems to make every account publicly facing, seems a child protection issue waiting to happen to me.
  16. We have the same domain so staff only have one email address. They sign into GAFE via their normal school email address and password which is automatically synced.

    Chromebooks...!

I have over 200 Chromebooks in my school and would paint the walls with the things if I could. I have a low cost Windows laptop on my desk to play with but its still going to need updates, network locations as we don't use 365 (another conversation for another day).
  18. Use it here and seems fine. Funny enough I had a tech support call a couple of days ago and found them fast and able. From my experience I would recommend.
  19. No. Our admin is still Windows, mostly due to reliance on SIMS and have not jumped to gmail as some higher ups are a little weary of change (an annoyance but hey). Sadly I don't find my admin staff the best bunch when it comes to changing anything so im working on classrooms at the moment. Our google use is more aimed at students however since classroom has launched, more seem to be embracing it. Rather than I have in the past, I'm not pushing google as the students are doing my work for me. They share homework with staff (who claim never to have heard about this before), who come to me and ask how to open it. Even the most hardened tech holdout says "oh that's easy enough" and walks off.
  20. I feel you still have your Windows/OSX IT hat on where you are wary of things to good to be true and 2 years ago I was the same. You wont like it but I have over 200 Chromebooks and... well..... its all sunshine and flowers. No poxy updates, incorrect shutdowns, cant find my work etc..... It just works perfectly. Only issues I have ever had... -I had a minor problem once where they wouldn't enrol but turns out my internet filtering policy was blocking something they needed. -One update allowed students to change from qwerty layout to DV however this is easily remedied and believe an update has fixed this now. -Sometimes if you tell them not to update past a certain version, they seem to ignore this but never caused me huge issues. Teachers love them because they work, students love them because they can get their work anywhere, ICT teachers love them because they teach cloud computing easier now, SLT love them because they are cheap and I get 0 complaints..... that's ZERO and yes I check, about 90% of them are used daily. Very interested to hear if you get other experiences from places who are not as happy as me but I propose a test. Take your blood pressure now or on an average day and then again a couple of months after deploying Chromebooks and notice the difference.
  21. The interface if fine ya moaning
  22. Morning all, Has anyone been able to make an MSI of makerbot at all? Failing this, does anyone have tried and tested command line input to silently install the thing? Thanks
  23. aye just found that out. Well Youtube is fine but Prezi still wants flash but in media, youtube reigns supreme. - - - Updated - - - lol..... on a similar note, can you imagine if Windows just randomly one morning updated so you couldn't use outdated software! I think the world would grind to a halt.
  24. Its youtube and prezzi. I just cant force it to allow the out of date plugin. I would use Chrome but cant get the homescreen working correctly.
  25. Anyone know how to tell Safari to allow outdated versions of Flash as this is getting on my nerves now.
