Had securus for years and sadly we are in the same boat where I doubt anyone checks it enough. If there is a problem with a student they check however I feel it is an early warning. So yes its easy to maintain and support is quite good (bar the lack of rack mounted server which pi**es me off) but yeah its fine for student monitoring.

Love my Dell SANs and their support (not that much ever goes wrong). When it came to quotes they destroyed HP on a like for like. I also have an HP P4000 from 3 years back and their support has been a pain in the bottom.

I saved them up and got their destruction for free when I put in some huge order with Stone once. I would wait for when you do a large order with a vendor who destroys them and use it at leverage that they collect them and destroy them for free

Just broke the 200 owned point on Chrome devices and doc use seems to climb every month. Very happy with Google Docs... Staff uptake is to be expected with some finding it harder to understand than others however I found the students seems to be driving it more than the staff.

in group policy.... User configuration, policies, windows settings, folder redirection... set the AppData(Roaming) to... Setting: Basic- redirect everyone's folder to the same location Target folder: Redirect to the following location Root Path: %Homeshare%\Appdata81 (by default its just Appdata but I like to change mine when I change OS) Fairly sure that is what you want to do. This will redirect the 50mb+ appdata to the users home area / network drive so they will get it where ever they logon so it will stop building it each time. no doubt if im talking crazy talk, someone will jump in and slap me.

I was in a similar situation to you a couple of years back and bought a thunderbolt 4TB WD storage device. I networked it from my mac mini server as a network share and copied all the home folders from the iMacs to this device (one folder per machine). It took a few days but it did work for the most part other than a few iMovie files needed to be recreated as it didn't like directory's moving. As a share you can just map it back after your upgrade and say, there you go, find your files.

My school had Toshiba and nothing but Toshiba for years however after years dealing with their after sales "support", we are never touching them again. You can honestly have 90 laptops all the same, 50 of them have the same bracket fall off within 2 months and apparently it is "the way we are using them". Hate them and will never touch Toshiba again. Lenovo on the other hand.... now you could cover a tank in Lenovo products and they would still be there and working when the tank had rusted away.

Im a real Win 8 fanboy but other than searching, I don't use it. The speed of the search in Win 8 makes any kind of start menu/screen pointless.

call me an evil heathen if you want but just noticed Dell switches seems to have a limited, parts only lifetime warranty on their 3000 series. Basically there is no real trauma but after a few years of dealing with HP's call centre, I am ready to shop around a little.

Looking to change a lot of switches next year and have a 100% HP environment at the moment however in the last 3 years I have had to contact HP support about 4 times for relatively minor things like the odd power supply on a PoE switch or a HHD failing in my SAN and each and every time I loose count of the hoops I have to jump through. Is Cisco any better? Opinions please? (PS... no Im not installing netgear) Thanks

Seagate 2TB Desktop 3.5inch 8GB SSD SSHD - Ebuyer Just wonder if there is anything I have to do to get it working as a hybrid correctly? Does Windows just figure it out? Seagate seem to claim its software free and am assuming the processing is done onboard the hard drive but pointers would be welcome. Thanks all

I have not set it up yet but believe direct access allows you to update them from afar.

Most important to me is at i3 followed by an SSD. I get i5's for the more design heavy departments or if I have the extra cash but certainly would never go below an i3.

I now create a VBS which runs as a .bat. I use item level targeting in group policy and copy them to the computer's startup folder. cscript c:\windows\system32\printing_admin_scripts\en-us\prnmngr.vbs -x cscript c:\windows\system32\printing_admin_scripts\en-us\prnmngr.vbs -ac -p \\**server***\Printername cscript c:\windows\system32\printing_admin_scripts\en-us\prnmngr.vbs -t -p \\**server***\Printername first line deletes any printer found (not local), 2nd line adds printer and 3rd makes it default. I have about 10 of these scripts now and apart from the cmd box quickly appearing when they log on, works bloody brilliantly. Fixed all my issues I was having with group policy randomly deciding when it wanted to deploy them.
