Do you have any VPN/direct access at all as it sounds it is looking for a network resource? Anyway apart from that I suggest uninstalling an antivirus completely and testing it. I once had an issue a little like yours and it was not until I remove the AV over disabling it, the problem was cured. Good luck either way.

I love the sound of those printers which store the printout until you goto the printer and authorise it (thumbprint). This way, staff and students alike can have a few print rooms setup around the place and collect it when convenient. I dispute any lesson outside of photography/media which needs a printout of a computer screen during a lesson. If I had my way it would be one printer for the school and google docs for all.

Can anyone tell me the benefits of the vault please? Are you doing this for legal compliance or just because that has been the way? ta

Purchasing extra RAM will be the way forward. Even a gamer who loves keeping browsers open will honestly not really need more than 4GB in practise.

lol, I know its a grass is greener situation but running a MIS through a browser rather than the backwards, 1990's way us Capita people have to use (yes we have SLG!)

Thanks. IDLE is what I wanted. We have 8.1 here so was just pointing a start tile at the .exe where IDLE link seems to sit in the old start menu folder. Found it now and on the case.

Afternoon all, My ICT teacher wants python deployed which is no problem but also wants a gui too. No MSI found for any gui so wonder if any of you can shed some light on a workaround? I wonder if its just a case of dropping a few files into a few folders (wishful thinking I know) or does anyone know of an msi somewhere? Only thing I wont be doing is running a script when a user logs on. Thanks

Greetings, Wonder if anyone here knows of a way to remove a group policy from a client, without domain accessibility? I have tried signing in as a local admin and adding group policy snap ins to mmc however it only shows local policy's and wonder if someone can point me towards a safe way of deleting them. In case you were wondering, I have been tinkering with direct access of late and although it works very well, I accidently took the server out earlier which renders all DA enabled clients without access to any network share / DC access. I reconfigured the server correctly however the clients can not reach a DC for the latest GP and I am stuck. I feel I need a work around should something go down in the future and need a fix. Its still early days for direct access here so just want to iron these flaws out before a mass deployment. Thanks all

Now google docs is taking off I am going to have a stab at removing some printers again soon. This thread has made me feel not so alone!

Think USB adapters are per machine hardware so what works for one laptop may not work for another (had amazing fun with a Fujitsu we got a while back). Anyway as mentioned above, you can push your MDT deployment out to an ISO and boot it from a USB key which is where I think I will go with it.

We currently spend about £900 a month here and it needs to stop. Staff just use them as photocopiers and complain so much if i even turn duplexing or eco modes on. My plan is to wait until our current photocopier rentals are up and get some people in to audit and push a unified solution.

Lenovo here however I got a quote from Ergo of all people the other day and was very impressed with their pricing (something I never thought I would say). Definitely have a chat with stone though.

been using macs in school with lion, mountain lion and mavericks and all worked more or less perfectly. If anything mavericks new keychain has proved a pain with AD but nothing an afternoon couldn't sort out.

Defender is just fine as long as you use user account control too.

I made printer install scripts as follows... cscript c:\windows\system32\printing_admin_scripts\en-us\prnmngr.vbs -x cscript c:\windows\system32\printing_admin_scripts\en-us\prnmngr.vbs -ac -p \\SERVERNAME\PRINTERNAME cscript c:\windows\system32\printing_admin_scripts\en-us\prnmngr.vbs -t -p \\SERVERNAME\PRINTERNAME Creates the printer and sets it as default. Works quick (user sees it for a couple of seconds). I then made it into a cmd file and used group policy to push it out with OU targeting to the computer's start menu startup folder. No complaints so far this term which is far better than last year with GP pushing them out.

I did some digging and found others who get something called an APO box APO Box which gives them a US postal address which will then forward it onto you. This way you should be able to deal with the US amazon/ebay etc... and have a US product shipped to you.

Yes thanks. Its all burst into life now (turns out the problem was Kaspersky monitoring port 443)

Yeah I know the bubble will burst at some point and something silly will happen like it wont work with BT routers or something. Long as I am concerned, SIMS works so Im happy.
