can cause issues in some cases but from my school's experience it is good to VLAN your wireless at minimum. We had a ruckus deployment and it completely fell on its arse until VLANS were made. Im considering adding a VLAN to our media departments iMacs soon.

I can imagine the release notes now... -UI now 10% more cluttered and 20% less responsive. -Fixed bug where SOLUS would deploy to a computer when using correct username and password. -only compatible with x86 systems.

Its a dream of mine to get direct access working however its proving hard to obtain another external IP address for my server which seems the easiest way for me to do it. I do however have a working Remote Gateway onsite we use for remote apps and the odd RDP session into the building. My question is do you think I could set server up for DA and use the Remote Gateway as the connection point or would I have to use the remote gateway server as the server running direct access or third of all, am I barking up the wrong tree and just need to get hold of another external IP address (I have an ISA onsite but its proving hard for me to make it point DA traffic at the correct server). The more I think about it the more I think just adding direct access role on my server running as a Remote gateway is the way to go but as I didn't set that up, I am reluctant to bugger about with it and would rather use another purpose build server so I can keep any noob damage I cause to a minimum. help, suggestions, thoughts all welcome. there are a lot of port replicators which work over one USB cable nowadays so you don't have to worry about a full refresh and only make sure drivers are supported. Kingston ones are ok and know the Toshiba ones are nice (is you can tolerate Toshiba support)

Youtube education for years 7-11 and full access to 12&13. Media studies have their macs on full youtube too (which I oppose).

I would say if you are playing with video editing for 32 desktops then maybe this would not be a great idea. I am no supreme expert on the matter but you would either look at Microsoft Multipoint for the easiest deployment where basically one computer does all the work and you get thin clients (either USB or over LAN) but really you would be looking at a decent remote desktop system such as the ones from Microsoft or VMWare / Cisco. I looked into the RDP system with thin clients and the initial setup costs a small fortune. I think I worked it out as being roughly what it would cost to replace all the desktops with new, i5 models so I chose that as it is a tried and tested solution. Also (again could be wrong) but I would be bloody careful your switch's could take it before a large scale deployment. On a closing note, I think thin clients can be around £2-300 anyway so you may save on space, heat and maintainance however the cost is still quite high in my opinion. Saying that its only what I found when I looked into it and if I had a brand new school I would look into this a lot more. Would love to hear from a school who have gone down a large scale deployment of this.

I know stone do a 3 year warranty on their batteries but was never personally impressed with the hardware. I would be aiming for a 4th gen i series CPU to get the best out of the battery life. Shame you don't have Chromebooks though as they last 8ish hours.

We are dabbling with Google Drive for this information at the moment however we are pants at writing info down.

We used to use TPM but don't anymore because the laptops I wanted didn't have it in them. We ensure our staff policy says no personal details to be held on the laptops instead. Saying that, TPM will be something I will be looking to reintroduce in the next batch.

barley. We run 8 here and its glitch at best. Funny thing is bought serif a year back with the guy being a real Serif fan so couldn't understand it when he asked for fireworks to be installed again. To be honest I think the guy is a bit of a goon sad that IT teachers are still dragging kids down as its one subject where you can really make a difference to the modern world.

My Head likes the teachers having laptops because they are more likely to do work at home with them. Sadly my staff are a careless bunch and it costs on average a few hundred a month just to fix the things.

Just got our first Dell 9020 today and although very fast (the i5 one), I was not impressed with the styling of it. Felt a little cheap and heavier than it needed to be. Dosnt help that we have a few new iMacs in the office at the moment but just was underwhelmed by it.

Anything with a Lenovo sticker on it will be fairly hard to damage. When you buy, make sure you look at things like how easy the keyboard is to replace (some modern ones are glued on as we came to find one day!)

We use a mac server as it makes nice little profiles to lock them down and makes software deployment quite easy and think its a great option if you don't have SCCM.

A teacher has just come to see me and says he believes there to exist a Promethean app for Chromebooks which basically turns them into a voting app (like the old egg things they do/did). Their site mentions nothing and can not find any mention on the app store either so wonder if anyone here knows of such an app or did my Maths teacher dream it? Thanks all
