I have Kaspersky at the moment which is up for renewal in December. Now I am fairly happy with it (easy to deploy, fairly easy to manage etc) but I have a reseller I use who keeps trying to push Sophos onto me. In a previous job I used Sophos and loved how simple it was to deploy however one morning it caused untold issues when it decided VNC was a virus and stopped everything booting. This was however, 7 years ago so wonder how you all find it nowadays?

Hmm maybe I will give just plain old WDS a shout then. Would love SCCM however my recent attempt to deploy it hit a wall and just didn't have the money to continue getting support for it. Incase anyone is ever in the same boat... I logged a call in the end as I made little sense of what I found on support net and it turns out that anything to do with redirection is installed on the SIMS server along side the database rather than along with SLG's sharepoint or provisioning servers. Capita support tell me it is a chargeable job to have the software reinstalled on a new server so I am thrilled. My fault for thinking it would be as simple as pointing it to a new database but no. Why my school continues to use this bloated software when there were such good parent portals at this year's BETT show I just don't know.

Im having a bad day (thanks to the capita clowns) and now have it out for my MDT deployment for reasons I wont moan about but wonder what you all use for Windows imaging as I may just replace the thing with something which works out the box and you don't need a masters degree and 4 "how to" websites just to install one piece of bloody software... I looked at Ghost as used to use that ages ago but appears to have been discontinued SCCM is out for the moment I have heard of another one mentioned on here ages ago but have to stress I am not touching anything Linux (my day is bad enough). Any suggestions other than calm down and start again Monday?

I have one room running Multipoint 2012 quite successfully however I am moving all of our windows clients over to 8.1 from 8 this summer. My problem comes where I can't for the life of me find news on a new version of multipoint to offer a 8.1 experience so wonder if anyone else knows something on the matter? Worst case I will have to set some mandatory profile shenanigans but an official update would be best case.

Hi all, I currently have Print Manager Plus and although it is ticking along quite well without much issue, I do feel it is a little clunky and looks quite outdated so cast my eye on Papercut (thanks to Edugeek adverts). I just wonder if anyone has made the jump before and how they find it compared to print manager plus. I am not desperate to move away but with my renewal coming up and some new servers to play with, if I am going to make the jump then now is the time. Thanks for all opinions.

Yes you have to have a licence for each Chromebook (got about 90 onsite and another 60 about to be ordered). The licences cost £19 unless someone can tell me a cheaper place to get them. Oh and you have to buy at least 5 (or is it 6?). I often try to have a few extra just incase.

Very quick question to those in the know... When PXE booting to SCCM (2012R2), will it fail if there is no task sequence advertised to it's group? I am getting the pxeabort.com thing but clear advertisements and all.... I was so disheartened at the end of Friday I was looking for non-IT jobs but thinking about it, the above makes sense and would love someone to tell me this is why it wasn't working, meaning I get a good nights sleep!.

Just got SIMS working via remote app here and works great (using IE or an iPad, others... meh most work). Like Fazza, we use 2012R2 and have issues when using Windows 8.1 but it does seem stable and easy to use. SIMS on an iPad is great.

Loved the Yoga when I played at BETT this year however I tentatively asked the company who supply my MS licencing and they seemed to think they would be able to put me in touch with the right MS people to sort out a large order of Surfaces so may be worth chatting to your MS reps or large companies like Insight, Stone or Millgate? On a related note, we just got SIMS working via RDP on a Surface RT so although a large initial outlay on servers, you could if you were feeling techy suggest you set that up and supply RT tablets to all. RDP works great, frees hardware limitations, being tied to working onsite and should provide much cheaper upgrades in the future? Just a thought.

In all honestly I can see the desktop going over the metro style. I like the metro style and think it shows up just how cluttered the start menu was to the point where when using 7, I now hit start and just type to search the program rather than use the start menu (a sort of omg what cavemen we were back in 2010 using this interface). As for Firefox pulling out.... in my opinion, who the hell uses Firefox anyway over Chrome or IE 10/11?
