Hi all, I know I am being a class A goon here but have the following question / scenario... I got stuck installing WSUS in my System Center 2012 R2 so bought in a few hours of support from a local company to get it running which they did. The only problem I now have is I can not see how to change what products it searches for and hope someone can point me in the right direction. Opening WSUS direct and going to Options / Products and Classifications leads me to a page informing me I can only change this from the upstream server. I could select the WSUS Server Configuration Wizard however I am under the impression this could cause issues within SC 2012. I certainly can not find an option with in SC2012 to change what product updates it search's for and just want to add Windows 8. No doubt all I need to do is press a button here and there but am paranoid of screwing the thing up. Thank you

So was thinking... April 1st is slowly on the horizon and am thinking I may change every teachers desktop to a picture of Michael Gove. Not a joke in the practical sense but should make me laugh for a while.

I recommend Millgate. Never used them myself as yet but they did give me a cocktail at BETT!

Also just to add, the second he moves you to a Linux box you will be forever in his pocket.

Just my opinion but if the whole company is only 15 computers would it just be easier to put all the work on a NAS box and run a simple share with standalone workstations rather than worry about VBS scripts and such. In a perfect world a move to 365 could really benefit your situation but with a NAS box (and something for a backup) you could out this dodgy sounding guy almost overnight.

This isn't an exact fix yet but I have had very good success with copying the .lnk file to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories via group policy and linking that one.

First up just for the record I used an AMD 7870 I believe but then found out there is no real software acceleration unless you are going to use better clients. Anyway not had an issue and found 2012 head and shoulders over 2011 in its speed and reliability. The only difference I did was install the barebones Hyper-V on the host and then run two Multipoints off that rather than one. Fixed any issues I had instantly and so much faster.

Yes I know you can put it on a VM and we got 8 installed last week (very good by the way) but I seem to have a love hate relationship with secures support. In the past 4 years of having Securus I find we have to make a support call every 6 months or so because it slows down, their support logs in, does something and it works again. I know deep down if I virtualise it then they will blame my hardware on the issue. They offer me the iso from time to time but I decline on above reason. Im a bit ocd when it comes to my server room and just hate a little box on the shelf. If only they would give me a rack mounted thing then I would sing their praises all day long. Until then... boo secures.

I use Multipoint 2012 along with T200's and can confirm there is no need for a graphics card.

I would recommend Securus for phrase / keyword monitoring however as they wont supply me a rack mounted server I have nothing but bad things to say about them.

the only way I have got around this (in case anyone else wondered) is I created a subgroup and had to remove any domain sign in restriction so just hope no one figures this out for now. I even set it to not update, reimaged the things, logged in to see it say "set to not update by administrator" and then watched as they all restarted and updated. Not best pleased but if this is the hand I have been dealt then I shall play.

Evening all, Just playing with my 8.1 test deployment and I would like to pin basic weather, news, sport apps to students desktops (using xml template) however the live tiles do not seem to want to work and wonder if I am missing a group policy somewhere? The user can open them and get current information but upon return to the start screen nothing appears. Any thoughts people? Thanks all.

I'm having similar problems, did you ever find the exact cause? It's annoying because I did get it working on a test lab a while back but just failing at the moment... Really annoying.

Does anyone here have some Samsung Chromebox's? I have 16 and this afternoon they have stopped all users logging on although our other chromebooks are fine. I suspect an update has bricked them but not sure yet.

I vote google. Docs is great and chromebooks are the best thing you will ever manage

I don't have the version at hand but updated it about 4 weeks ago to the latest version. Sometimes it worked but often it just did not want to know. Also students bringing in Macs with admin passwords they did not know was painful. I think the final straw for me was when quite a few students wanted to use Surface RT's.

Was just looking at some HP laptops for the first time but think I will give it a miss now. Got an HP san and getting support for that at times is a pain in the bottom.

I gave up on Ruckus guest access as it only seems to work if it can be arsed. Works on iPads most the time, macs sometimes, Windows phones with a pause and android phones if the wind is blowing in the right direction. We just made a WLAN with isolated clients and rolled the key out to the students to use. We do use guest access for actual guests to the building though just to keep tabs on it.

I find Dell a nightmare to get competitive quotes from. Anyway I tend to buy from Insight UK as have had good quotes from them in the past. If you are talking to Stone I would get a price on some Samsung ones too (personally not impressed with their own laptops).
